To celebrate International Women’s Day 2017, CNN asked 12 African influencers including Angelique Kidjo, Tiwa Savage, DJ Cuppy and more to share their favourite quotes from other African women that inspire them or have made an impact on them.

Lupita Nyong’o, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Wangari Maathai, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and more were some of the women quoted.
