First Bank Nigeria Promotes Agriculture for Growth & Sustainable Development in Nigeria at the FirstAgricExpo2017
On the 14th of March 2017, Premier financial house, First Bank Nigeria Plc, hosted the First Agriculture Exhibition solely sponsored by the bank. The Agricultural exhibition which held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and suites, Victoria Island, Lagos was attended by many Agricprenuers who came to showcase their Agriculture products and many participants who also came to see new and improved agricultural processed product.
The maiden edition of the Agriculture Exhibition tagged “FirstAgricExpo2017” was attended by over two thousand people who occupied the entire area of the exhibition presenting their products, machines and innovations and discussed issues that would aid the growth and sustainability development in the agricultural sector of the nation.
FirstAgricExpo2017 was attended by the movers and shakers in the agriculture sector of the nation. Amongst those present include; Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, who was represented by the Acting MD/chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Industry of Nigeria, Waheed Olagunju, Governor of Lagos State, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who was represented by the Lagos State commissioner for Agriculture, Oluwatoyin Suarau and other dignitaries.
Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, The MD/CEO of First Bank Nigeria, who gave the opening speech emphasized the positive role of Agriculture to the growth and sustainable development of the country. In his words, he said, “the extent of the Nigeria Agriculture sector potential for accelerating economic growth and sustainability cannot be exaggerated as Agriculture has the mission to eradicate poverty and hunger in our generation. The entire nation looks up to the Agriculture sector with huge value change as the giver of hope for the positive future of our economic development”.
Waheed Olagunju, the acting MD/CEO of Bank of Industry while delivering the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment’s speech during the exhibition, said Historically, the Agricultural sector in Nigeria has been ignored by many corporate entities, even financial institution has distanced themselves from collaborating with farmers or organizing an Agricultural fair or exhibition that would create a platform for Agricprenuers to showcase their products or even an avenue where Agricprenuers would gather under a roof to discuss the way forward of the Agriculture sector. First Bank Nigeria, the premier financial institution leads by solely organizing and sponsoring an agriculture exhibition.
Waheed Olagunju, further made it known that the Bank of Industry is ready to do its best by supporting and working hand in hand with the Ministry of Agriculture and other private firms to sponsor people who are willing and ready to do business especially those who are willing to go into the agriculture sector of the economy so as to improve the economy of the nation. He further made it known that the Bank of Industry has been working with First Bank Nigeria and he is ready to better the relationship so as to create funds for genuine investors and entrepreneurs for micro small medium enterprise.
Agriculture serves as a catalyst to a nation’s industrialization and First Bank Nigeria is ready to contribute its own quota to the development of the Agricultural sector as a means to grow the economy of the country.
