Excerpts from a new biography about former U.S. President Barack Obama, due to be released on May 9 have been released.

The 1,400-page book written by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David J. Garrow and titled Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama reveals that Obama proposed marriage twice to a woman other than Michelle prior to when he met her.

Obama, according to Garrow, continued to see Sheila Miyoshi Jager, the woman who he proposed marriage to, even after he met Michelle.

“Barack and Sheila had continued to see each other irregularly throughout the 1990-1991 academic year, notwithstanding the deepening of Barack’s relationship with Michelle Robinson. ‘I always felt bad about it,’ Sheila confessed more than two decades later,” Garrow said.

According to a review by People Magazine, the book said Obama and Sheila, who is now an Oberlin College professor, dated for 3 years in the mid-1980s adding that she turned his marriage proposal down in 1987, when she was 23, and he 25 after her parents told her she was too young to get married. The book said Obama’s political ambitions also put a strain on their relationship.

“I remember very clearly when this transformation happened, and I remember very specifically that by 1987, about a year into our relationship, he already had his sights on becoming president,” Sheila said.

Just days before he would depart for Harvard Law School — and when the relationship was already coming apart — Obama asked her to come with him and get married, “mostly, I think, out of a sense of desperation over our eventual parting and not in any real faith in our future,” Sheila explained to Garrow.

Obama met Michelle Robinson at the beginning of June 1989, when she was assigned by her top-flight Chicago law firm to mentor a him, a Harvard University law student and summer associate.

Barack was impressed and immediately told another lawyer at the firm, “My mentor is really hot,” Garrow writes. Michelle was less amused and batted away Barack’s advances, telling him it would “look bad” if she dated him. Her friend at the time, Kelly Jo MacArthur, told Garrow that Michelle was known for her “conservative morals.”

On June 30, 1989, Michelle relented and agreed to go on one date with Barack. Her reluctant verdict: “I liked him a lot. He was cute, and he was funny, and he was charming,” she later recalled.

Sheila came back to Obama’s life in early 1990 when she took a teaching fellowship at Harvard. “We continued to see each other occasionally. despite the deepening of Barack’s relationship with Michelle,” Sheila said.

Obama continued his long distance relationship with Michelle at the time as he made headlines across the country as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review in February 1990.

In June of the same year, he went back to Chicago for summer break – this time to move in with Michelle and her family.

Garrow however, did not mention the extent of Obama and Sheila’s friendship in that period but by spring of 1991, she met someone else and moved on. “As much as I loved him, I was relieved when our paths finally parted,” she told Garrow.

Obama proposed to Michelle on July 31, 1991 and they got married on October 3, 1992. He also informed Sheila about his engagement to Michelle in March 1992.

Obama Considered Having a Gay Relationship with his Professor

The book, according to The Sun UK, also claims that Obama even considered having a gay relationship with his openly gay professor, Lawrence Goldwyn.

“Obama wrote somewhat elusively to his first intimate girlfriend that he had thought about and considered gayness but ultimately decided that a same-sex relationship would be less challenging and demanding than developing one with the opposite sex.,” the book said.

Obama’s First Serious Girlfriend

The book also reveals Obama’s first serious girlfriend was Genevieve Cook, the daughter of an Australian diplomat, whom he fell for at a Christmas party in New York.

The book also claims that Obama and Cook, a 25-year old primary school teacher at the time (1983), slept with each other on their first date.

In the book Ms Cook describes how she slept with him on the night of their first date. She wrote in a journal she kept of their “passionate” love making, adding that it had all felt “very inevitable”.

Genevieve said that Obama had taken cocaine in his early 20s with friends from Occidental College in Los Angeles. He has previously written about trying the drug when he was a teenager.

She however said he didn’t take as much as others, “For every five lines that somebody did, he would have done half,” she said.

She also recalled the dinner date at the apartment he shared with two others.

She said: “We went and talked in his bedroom. And then I spent the night. It all felt very inevitable.”

White people always making up stories when a black person is the subject. All said to rubbish his image and accomplishments. You have to live in the United States to understand these people.

Tomorrow, they’ll tell you that Trump was the best President the United States ever had.

I never liked Obama. There was something anti-Christ about him. I preferred John McCain and Mitt Romney over him. He was too liberal and at some point, was deeply anti-Christian in his views and policies. “Christian America” felt under siege under his presidency. His reluctance to criticize militant Islam was a source of worry for many. Do I have to also state that Africa gained a lot under Clinton and Bush than under Obama.

Obama had a chance to be one of America’s greatest Presidents, but he flopped. His insistence that America is not a Christian country made some people actually believe that he was a crypto muslim.

Trump may have his flaws but he has great ideas. He wants Christians in war-torn countries in the Middle East to start life afresh in America. I wonder why people are kicking against this. Under Obama muslim refugees could easily migrate to the US than Christians. Some people may not like Trump, but his love for Christians has endeared me to him.

I can bet you don’t live in the US. If you want to know Obama’s stance on faith, I suggest you read the chapter on faith in his Audacity of Hope. You will learn a lot about him. He may not be your conservative born-again, but he sure has some deep convictions. I have attended predominantly white evangelical churches for the past 14 years and I tell that you don’t know these people when it comes to politics. Sometimes, people think that being a republican means you are going to heaven! enough said.

The problem with people like you is the level of hypocrisy that guides your beliefs. This racist monster who sexually abuses women and is on his 3rd marriage does not hold any of the Christian values I avow. Just remember that in America, first of all, you are black. Everything else is secondary. So continue in your ignorance thinking Mitt Romney and the rest of the Republican cohorts will give you the opportunity to even remember which religion you follow. Your struggles will be way bigger than that as a black person in America. Carry on.

Obama did not flop. That’s rather a foolish statement to say. It’s okay to have opinion or not like Obama but give credit where it’s due. You can’t judge from a myopic perspective. He had one of the highest ratings when he left office and based on an assessment of past presidents from Lincoln to Eisenhower, he was on the list of some of the best U.S presidents. You wonder why Trump isn’t focused on economy, oh because employment became better, jobs were created compared under Obama to when he took office 8 years ago during the time America faced the highest recession since the Great Depression. And unemployment is about to go up again under Trump. Obama is more christian than most people claiming to be one because God looks at the heart. Not being a pharisee or hypocrite.

It’s funny when people automatically assume Republicans are more christians than Democrats when both parties play the same dirty politics. There are gay and lesbian Republicans. Their ideology is not any different from any moderate liberal they just hide under a party. They punish others but do the same, that’s what Republicans are known for. If Obama did half of what Trump has done and still doing, they would have buried Obama alive by now.
Yes, Obama signed gay marriage which I’m strongly against. And it was quite frustrating when the party pushed the LGBT agenda. But guess what that’s America, there are gay senaotrs, governors, bureacrats and they fight for equal rights.
To say Trump has great ideas is comical. Bombing muslim countries is not what presidency is about, that’s not the reason Americans elect their leaders. It’s beyond that.
Obama was never against christians refugees. There are more refugees from muslim countries because their countries are torn apart due to war, and bombing the hell out of one another.
Trump is actually a liberal who is hiding under a Republican party because it benefits him more particularly his business/taxes.

So it’s Buhari that’s not anti Christ? Naijas can lie, pretend eh so bcos he fought for gay rights, proposed to a lady twice and had crazy college days na devil.
And a man who blatantly lies with no remorse, has no respect for women, promotes hatred, a bully, Fraud na beta Christian. Trump na correct naija. Just like naijas, they never own up and take accountability for anything. Put themselves on a pedestal and act like they are better.
      Naijas, I pity una.
Naijas deserve their leaders bcos the leadership is a reflection of the people.

Well, don’t we all have a past? Don’t we all have previous broken relationships or engagements? Nothing said in this book is strange to the ears! Most important thing is, He’s a much better and respected man today with a beautiful family and he loves his wife so dearly. Let bygones be bygones. Old things MUST pass away. Lol! I’m only curious why the 1,400 paged book is being published NOW. Anyways, trust me, you really don’t wanna know Donald Trump’s past life. Lol! If someone should have the courage to write on him, I bet we all will have our mouths agape as we read through.
