They gave me Biafra with five Igbo states in prison, I said no - Nnamdi KanuLeader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, at a courtesy visit paid to him by the leaders of Igbo Civil Society Coalition led by Obasi Igwe, has said that he was offered in prison Biafra with only five states.

According to Vanguard, Kanu said he rejected the offer, adding that he also wanted Benue and Rivers states.

He also claimed to have been offered an oil bloc and a mansion in Dubai, gifts offered to tempt him to abandon the cause of a sovereign Biafra. He said he rejected them both.

The IPOB leader said he insisted on the actualization of Biafra, that those things were “Greek gifts.”

He said: “They gave me Biafra in Prison with only the five Igbo states; I said no, I want Benue and Rivers. Biafra is coming, there is nothing to stop it.”

but on a serious note how many states was he looking at to make up Biafra. If Biafra is ever going to leave they would have to take only the Igbo states with them. I doubt the Niger Delta would want to go with them.

He has delusion of grandeur. He thinks of himself as a king or messiah of some sort. If he has any courage he should name who offered him these bribes. He is just making stuff up and these people will believe him. One bullet is all it takes…it is time to get rid of him.

Igbo people do not give a damn about oil,we have our own untapped natural resources. We believe in our brain and hardwork, oil is a curse. Nnamdi kanu has stated several times that after getting biafra that if ND want to declare their own republic, they are free to do so, no one will stop them( igbos do not even have that kind army to do so even if they want) but as for now we are all getting out of the Zoo as one entity BIAFRA. The yorubas slaves can stay with their lord and master the hausa / fulanis in the zoo( that is thier business and destiny). I find it funny that people who haven’t crossed ORE in their lives wants to dictate what igbos or ND wants or not

      July 20, 2017 at 6:21 pm

@chi, you claim you that you do not give a damn about oil blocs, but it is obvious that the guy you are attempting to defend does. In response to Josephism’s comment you state that you would support a Niger Delta republic but again it is obvious that the guy you passionately support does not, hence his request for Benue and Rivers. While you claim in one comment that you would support a Niger-Delta, you then comment in another that some Rivers indigenes have Igbo roots, so what is it exactly? do you support a ND or not? Rivers falls under ND at least to my limited knowledge, so if your cause is a Biafra then you should have no problem with one without Rivers AND Benue, roots or not!!!

Let me point out here, that Josephism was not try to minimize the issues you raised and neither am I I.e the unfairness in how the wealth/resources has been shared in the country thus far. Nevertheless, yourself and Mr. Kanu are well aware that there in (ND) lies the “money maker” . You insist that there are untapped resources in the East, while that remains to be seen, we all know it takes ? to tap into any resource, which is why Mr. Kanu and his cohort want the bedrock of the money bags. To try to pretend otherwise or try to act that it is in the best interest of ND area to join Biafra is to insult the intelligence of the entire Nigeria population and even more so indegenes of the South. Mr. Kanu is only trying to exploit the oil I.e money from the area as well and that is abundantly clear.

In addition, the way you try so hard to move focus, talking about colonialism…”some white man’s mistress….” starting and ending your response to LMAO with insults…. “you and your generations are a lost cause…… black monkeys and hyenas” but not attempting to respond to the very question he/she asked., which is why should ANYONE follow Mr. Kanu, a man that has accomplished NOTHING note worthy???? What you fail to realize is that you should be trying to convince your fellow state men and women that will be giving up a lot I.e businesses , friends, their homes, to pursue a cause, that there is actually a cause/goal here.

Fighting for independence is all well and good but at the end how will this affect my bottom line? how will it make up for what you asking me to give up? what are Mr. Kanu’s plans to ensure that even if i am not able to reap the reward of fighting for a Biafra that my children and grandchildren will? Those are the questions you are not responding to. And to do that you need to produce facts or at least be able to make evidence based arguments.

You asked why you should remain in Nigeria, while I am no Igbo, I can however understand that the question the majority of the Country is asking especially your state men is why should they leave the devil they know for the one they don’t? How can you reassure them with a leader like Mr. Kanu that they are not jumping from ? to ?? We are all aware of the problems, we need solutions but how is Biafra a solution? These are the questions.

I however agree that this should be put to a referendum, I want to however believe that unless Mr. Biafra himself I.e Kanu and his followers are able to intelligently answer these questions you will be hard pressed to have the majority jump on that bandwagon. Resorting to insults does not help your case either. BTW colonization is not the issue and has not been for awhile though I recognize it as the deflection tactic for which it is.

    • Diamond

      July 20, 2017 at 7:21 pm

      Ajala and foodie.
In response to your first paragraph. IPoB spokesman Emma Powerful corroborated Nnamdi Kanu’s statement by saying what they want the Igbo brothers and sisters in those states. That let the Igbos there be included in the referendum, to choose if they want to stay in Nigeria or become Biafra like their kin.

From your comment “roots or not”, are you saying should Biafra become a sovereign state, that Igbos in Rivers, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Kogi, and Edo should remain part of Nigeria? Com’on, you are more intelligent than this. Just because the Northern military maliciously carved those lands into other states, doesn’t deny the fact the people are Igbos and the land theirs.

    • Ajala & Foodie

      July 21, 2017 at 12:19 am

@ Diamond, when I say roots or not, I am not referring to the people but the land. Anyone who wants to go with Biafra and is accepted should be allowed to join but pro-biafrans should not expect to get the land and waterways in that geographic area is my point, I hope that clears that

    • Diamond

      July 23, 2017 at 12:04 am

So they should leave their ancestral land? Why? Because the land has crude oil. So the oil in the the non Igbo speaking Niger delta no do you that you want people to leave their homes and villages for you because of the oil God blessed their land with? Isn’t that the same thing you are accusing Nnamdi Kanu of?
Please Igbos are not forcing anyone into Biafra, they only want their kin fraudulently carved into other regions by Gowon and co to come back to the fold.
Oil, oil, oil. As if there are no developed countries that are without oil.

Fact is Nigeria will never work under the present set up . We will keep empowering the demons we call leaders to oppress us . Me , I am afraid for my children and their children. I don’t believe in the dual citizenship thing as the other country,s citizenship is tenorless . I want a country in which my children and their generation are free and enabled to be world changers just like their counterparts in the advanced world. A country where it is basically about them and not about the leader. Now Nnamdi Kanu may be dubious but he has done for the Igbo man what nobody has been able to over these years. He has given power to the Igbos .He has given them a voice (a loud one at that) . I like (so much ) what is happening in Anambra State . It is either this country is restructured or one group leaves. Not that I am not mindful of the enormous costs any of these options entails. But this , sadly is the only way we can secure our future. And pls Nnamdi Kanu leave the south south and Middle belt out of Biafra.

It is appalling and a cause for concern to see the hatred, not just dislike but real hatred amongst people. For what reason exactly? Purely based when where our parents were born? I doubt many of us are even born in the same State has our parents but yet we carry so much hate for an individual because individual does not share the same birth state lines as your mum and daddy. The pure venom in some of these comments causes me to worry but again something tells me, that is humanity, we will always manufacture reasons to bicker, hate and go to war. I pray peace on everyone, the head space it takes to harbor such hate and bitterness I can only imagine.

@ chi, do you listen to yourself? Are you even congnizant of what you are typing?my comment reeks of envy AND DIVISION, yet, I am not the one advocating for a Biafra now if that is not divisive I don’t know what it is. You accuse me of selective memory, that is assuming I have for once heard anything tangible from Mr, Kanu that I should remember. No I haven’t. You speak about tribes in Rivers like if we are to start discussing tribes in Nigeria not only in Rivers we will not be here till thine kingdom come.!!! Or should we also speak to children born of inter-tribal relationships then everyone will have root all over the world. Yet I am the one whose comments reeks of division, but, I was the one that asked for a referendum but you are the one quick to not only make generalizing statements about a ethnic group but try to again deflect from making an intelligent argument by making ridiculous assumptions and insulting generalizing statements. You claim my comment reeks of envy? Yet you speak about Lagos with so much love right, I mean no one can miss the envy for Lagos that you have. Now tell me exactly where the envy or division you so claim is in my entire argument. I took direct quotes from your argument to buttress my point but all I see with your response again is someone who is unable to make intelligent evidence based argument and resorts to gross myopic generalization, unwarranted insults or deflecting tactics in a bid and think I am still the issue??? I am not surprised you got in your own words “all I have said from the man “I.e Mr. Kanu, again you both need to sit down and make a valid case then maybe you would have a fighting chance until then quit foam at the mouth and get some sense while you are at it.

Let me make one thing however clear to you, you know Nada about me I.e “you yorubas”, my parents may have been born within certain state lines within Nigeria but I consider it wise to know my identity does not stem from ridiculous state lines, I have the wisdom to not let silly geographical location close my eyes to reason.

N.B: For the record in case you missed it in my initial response, let me spell it out in simple terms you will understand: 1) I am not against Biafra, hence my statement about a referendum if anything I am pointing out obvious loop holes in the way you are making your case so you can fix them. 2) ALL tribes are guilty of being part of the problem in the East and Nigeria has a whole and I mean ALL including the last administration that was led by a South-South, 3) Mr. Kanu and yourself want Rivers and Benue to exploit the oil just like you have accused others of doing. 4) You don’t have NDs best interest at heart only looking for a means to fund Biafra should it succeed I.e you selfishly have your interest at heart and even more importantly is that I fear Mr. Kanu only has his personal agenda at heart. But again do I expect you to get it? Nope!!! I refuse to continue in a baseless argument, I guess for a moment I thought I could reason with you but like I said go and get some wisdom, maybe then you will be empowered to stop following ANYONE blindly and then maybe then you will be capable of making just plain simple common sense argument without unnecessary insults. Until then girl ?

You are the big illiterate. Go read about Rivers State. So there are no or very few Igbos in Rivers, but they have been governors since inception of democracy in the 4th republic. From Odilli, to Amaechi and now Wike. I bet you didn’t know these were Igbo names. Stay confused!

Chi, let me add the former Soviet union are not killing themselves over their disintegration.

Nigeria is not working, lets go our separate ways as the North don’t want to restructure. After all, they wanted out first “Araba, there is no basis for Nigeria unity”. Same reason they reneged on their call for separation, is same reason they don’t want to restructure, and don’t want Biafra. But for how long? If military government was still possible, they would have used it to rule for life. They used Boko haram during Jonathan’s. I wonder what they will come up with during Osibanjo’s as God is already showing them He has the final say.

The agitation has taken a dimension that’s dangerous for Nigeria, if the govt keeps pretending that all is well, I can only say ” there was a country”. Am only surprised with supposedly educated people who thinksuccession is tantamount to war, whenever Biafra is mentioned they respond with war threat yet foolishly tells an Igbo man to return to the East before making a demand. ChI, great write up but Ill say the biggest mistake of Buhari was arresting Nnamdi Kalu, the govt indirectly made an unknown Nnamdi the face of Biafra. Biafra agitation before was led by unemployed Massob but Kalu now has the attention of both the educated and the uneducated, that’s a danger to Nigeria.People like me are still on the fence but if Nigeria fails to restructure, they should expect bigger issues ahead. Enough of the pretence, the South East is marginalized.

Rather than compare Biafra with Sudan, I think u should look at countries like Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore. the Igboman share same spirit and mindset with people from these places ….surving against all odds

I alyways chuckle when I hear that igbos are not United ..no group of people is more United than igbos, forget all this Yoruba propaganda u see and read.. In fact igbos are the most united and progressive group in Nigeria. Everywhere they are, they form igbo unions and donate money to help back home. Stop this useless myth. Have u ever heard about an anambra people going to war with imo people in any history..but yoruba people have at warvwith each sice time immemorial..every problem ihbos have they settle diplomatically( which is kinda ironic going by all yhe propanganda from the fake lagos ibadan espress media

Everyone is speculating about what would happen between and within Nigeria and Biafra when the Igbos leave. The reality is, should the Igbos leave, there will no longer be Nigeria.

Someone wrote:Please share widely !!!!A Yoruba friend asked me: Under what conditions would you support “One Nigeria” and let go of the Biafra agitation and let it diedown and finally laid to rest for good? Here was my response:1. Close down Lagos ports and Open up PH,Calabar, Onitsha and Warri ports.2. Cancel all direct and major connecting flights to Lagos and Abuja airports only local connecting flights will be allowed. While this is being done, open up Enugu, Owerri, Asaba, Uyo and PH to international flights direct and major connecting flights.3. Ask all international and diplomatic missions to move their embassies and consulates from Lagos, Kano and Abuja to Enugu, PH and Calabar.4. All federal governments’ agencies in Lagos and Abuja shall be relocated to Enugu, PH and Calabar. CBN, NNPC, e.t.c shall and must relocate to PH, Calabar and Enugu.5. All multinational companies in Lagos and Abuja, shall and must relocate their offices to PH, Calabar and Enugu.6.All oil companies must relocate their head offices to PH, as the oil capital of Nigeria.7. Let the northern children gain admission into federal schools with 300 score points while the South Eastern Children should gain admission with only 20 score points .8. Let all federal road projects in the North/SW should be handled by one local companies and the one in the SE/SS should be handled by Julius Berger and foreign construction companies. If these conditions can be fulfilled and implemented for 50years , we can try one Nigeria and let see if you the North and SW will like it for a month…Meaning, Yorubas and Hausas needing to get international visas shall travel to PH, Calabar or Enugu to do that. Same with flying or connecting flights, same with shipping and importing their goods, etc., etc.The Yoruba friend replied: You can’t be serious, this is wickedness and I said…Really? Don’t you think South Eastern part ofNigeria have been suffering and enduring this very same wickedness for over 50 yrs?He was quiet for a few seconds and said: Wow, you are right but it never occurred to me. I said, that’s the problem with One Nigeria, those who are benefiting from it, love it and would love to maintain the status quo.Let each region develop at her own pace, with Airport, Seaports, industries, major projects open to be developed in any part of Nigeria without government interference or strangulation due to tribalism and nepotism!Let Nigeria be fair to ALL irrespective of tribe, religion, and place of birth.Let the there be true federalism and resources control, with the elimination of quota systemand federalism character in Nigeria.Let’s have equal respect for one another irrespective of where the person is coming from in Nigeria. That is what Biafra agitation is all about.

I read the thread that Omenka created to mock Nnamdi Kanu and taunt Igbos cause he said he can’t leave without Benue. Please be guided to know that Benue state has 4 LGAs are indigenous Igbo people whoowns the land as original owners not settlers.Incase of Biafra negotiation and/or restoration, let me make this clear that we are not leaving an Inch of Igboland behind. There is no way we will abandon over a million of our brothers in Nigeria, it is not possible. For those who think Nnamdi Kanu doesn’t know what he is saying, read this article from Benue Igbo Development Union (BIDU).Gone are the days where we don’t know where Igboid communities are hidden. I have now put Anioma and them on the mapfor future reference. They are in 4 local government areas of Benue State namely Ado, Oju, Okpoku and Obi, all in Benue State. These are ethnic Igbo. These are known as the Umuezeokoha people. Some people were speaking about Igbo trying to annex other people’s land, but look at how sizable amount of Igbo were cut off and place in the North as northern communities.Presumably some people hoped that the Umuezeokoha people will lose their identityas is happening with some Ikwerre people in Rivers State. Umuezeokoha community is in the present Benue state and comprises of over 300 villages of Igbo speaking areas. Ado, Oju, Okpoku and Obi are local government areas that are part of the newly proposed Apa state that, which the Idoma have been calling for. There are over one million of them spread across four local government areas of Benue State. You can find them in Ado, Oju,Okpoku and Obi, all in Benue State. They are ethnic Igbos. Before the Nigerian civil war, they lived a happy and meaningful life, mingling freely with their kith and kin in the state. But today, things have fallen apart.Instead of the joyful songs, they were used to, they now sing dirges. The Benue Igbos who are called by the name Umuezeokoha are not happy that they have been neglected for a long time now by successive governments, federal, state or local, and they are blaming this on their ethnic origin and the fact that they are in the wrong state. On the September 23, 2016, their umbrella organization, Benue Igbo Development Union – BIDU issued a press release:WE ARE REAL INDIGENOUS IGBO:Unequivocally, Benue Igbo people are not known as farm settlers, as some prominentIgbo men are going about broadcasting to the public that we are only settle here for sake of farming.Comprehensively, farming is our pride in relation to our kith and kin in Ebonyi state, namely :.Ezza, Izzi Effium and Ezzamgbo people. These people mentioned here are today thestrength of Abakaliki political block and also the farming strength of Ebonyi people. For more than hundred years ago we havebeing in Benue state even, during the time of civil war Nigeria government used all hermachinery against us in Benue here which later turn to futile and disgrace to them and still today we are pronouncing widely in popularity more than expected. Nigeria government, I think this is the right time to embrace justice and stop the political ostracism against the Benue Igbo. Although, we have being facing a lot of unexpected harassment but we are firmly assuring you people that no amount of political deprivation or subjugation will make us to deny our identity as Igbo speaking people of Benue state and we must forever remain resolute to achieve our political freedom.People should stop misdirecting the public with messages full of deceit and shenanigans that we are farmsettlers in Benue state. WE ARE REAL INDIGENOUS IGBO RESIDENT IN BENUE

No doubt Nigeria is a failed state. We can all see that the leadership of this country since independence has been wack. If being too “diverse” will cause another civil war then let Nigeria split! If Biafra also becomes a sovereign state, but the leader ship is still full of corrupt individuals, then it wont be differnt from Nigeria. Nigeria is not the problem, the people are! You all only have mouth on social media, instead of doing trying to get rid of these elements that will come to campaign in 2019 again. Because Benues has fertile lands and Rivers has Oil, moreover they both have means of major water transportation since the igbo states are land locked abi? Say whatever you want, Nnamdi Kanu is far better than the Hausa fulani that used Boko haram to destroy lives and properties because of their greed for power and born to rule mentality.

Nnamdi Kanu and IPoB have not killed, bombed or taken up guns in their quest for Biafra, so why are you having migraine over Biafra when you are not Igbo, and honestly do not love Nigeria?

I know the best the North can do is try all they can so Buhari will last till 2019, so another core northerner takes over. But if that fails and Osibanjo becomes president, of course they will attempt to stop him in 2019. And resuscitate Boko haram which is currently hibernating (or what will they come up with now) . Time will tell.
