Nnamdi Kanu goes into Hiding - BellaNaija

Nnamdi Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the secessionist group Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has gone into hiding following the declaration by the Nigerian Army that the group is a terrorist organization.

Both Kanu, and other top leaders of the group, have according to Punch gone into hiding since the declaration.

Members of the group who spoke on the condition of anonymity said it was a decision the group took together. They said:

We have to apply wisdom to whatever we are doing. We have realised that there is a grand conspiracy against Kanu and other top leaders of our group.

Just imagine barely few hours after the Nigerian military declared members of IPOB and other pro-Biafran groups as terrorists, our own governors came up with their own outright ban of our activities.

This definitely will give the soldiers and other security agencies the opportunity to arrest our leader and mount a deadly clampdown on all IPOB members. So, it is better to operate from a hideout for now.

Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, popularly known as Fine Boy, has said only his brother can disclose where he is at the moment. He said:

Only my brother can tell Nigerians where he is, I can’t. I don’t know why the Army should call IPOB a terrorist organisation, it is out of their desperation to arrest Nnamdi and frustrate the Biafran struggle.  We have petitioned the United Nations and the European Union.

The world knows that IPOB is a non-violent organisation, we don’t carry arms, we don’t kill, and we believe violence can never solve any problem.

Nnamdi will soon disclose his current location and IPOB will also react to the proscription of the group by the South-East governors’ forum.

IPOB also condemned the South-East Governors for its ban, saying they are disloyal.

The group said its demonstrations have been peaceful, and the ban proves that the governors are at the forefront of the plan to eliminate its leader Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement released by the group’s media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, the group said:

We want to find out how the governors who do not know the foundations of IPOB, would make such a statement when they know that IPOB had staged 297 peaceful protests and rallies both at home and in Diaspora without a single record of violence or crime.

With the record on ground, IPOB under Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is one of the most peaceful organised freedom fighting group in the world today.

It is dangerous that the governors who are the chief security officers of their respective states in the zone would decide to hand over their people to the enemies who were out to kill, maim and destroy because of their selfish reasons.

We are also aware that late Chief Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and General Philip Effiong protected their people during the first pogrom and ethnic cleansing from 1966 to 1970.

These governors and their collaborators are in the forefront to eliminate our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other peaceful members of IPOB. It is on record that IPOB activities are peaceful since the inception and nobody can prove where and how IPOB activities became violent over night.

The solders brought in to eliminate or murder our leader and IPOB members, including the innocent civilians across Biafra land, are still going from house to house picking anyone suspected to be IPOB or seen with any Biafra insignia.

IPOB under Kanu must remain a nonviolent group in the pursuit for Biafra freedom, despite the high handedness meted against IPOB members and our leader.

If it is true, then it is good news, ‘cos when they find him, he can be “mistakenly” killed during the fire exchange. Hopefully soon, so we can end this mess. Igbos need credible leaders to negotiate with the government. This delusional man is self serving.

Bunch of cowards because they are not arming themselves and fighting back. Remember that no one has a monopoly on violence. Seriously you expect him to meekly surrender himself or fight against a murderous state with bare hands. Be careful what you wish for. Ojukwu ran away because he did not plan the war properly there was no weapon nor supplies available and he had no hope of breaking the blockade. We know what happened that war was against Britain; the Nigerian government was only a pawn. He who fights and run away will live to fight another day. In this case, IPOB has not yet graduated their struggle to an armed rebellion but mind you it can still come to that and you will judge for yourself who the true cowards are

Nnamdi Kanu is a symptom of a systemic illness; arresting him is a waste of time. If young Nigerians are gainfully employed and have good quality of life they wouldn’t be agitating for a secession. Maybe the political class should have a thorough look at themselves rather than harassing these young people who are fed up with the charade called Nigeria. Look at the unemployment figures, look at the health indices, look at every index in the book, then you will understand the agitation.

    Many thanks Andy Pete.
OSA , your daftness knows no bounds. Go and read unbiased account of the civil war again , so you can give accurate information. Ojukwu left after the cease fire was called !
In any case , let me state this again. The Igbos are the flimsy thread holding this country together. One day will go .Then everybody will quickly define their identity. Even the Shuwa Arab will not be able to endure the Fulani for a minute.
Laugh at the Igbos all you want !

      Daft comment as usual.
No atom bearing any semblance to brain tissues in your entire anatomy.
Sorry love we all know igbos are still bitter after 50 years. That has clouded their ability to make reasonable judgements. Resorting to insults is their favourite pasttime. Ojukwu failed. Nnamdi has also failed. He had a good agenda but as usual no brain to carry it through to success -With his hate speeches. You guys need to learn from yorubas and edos.

@Osa, have you ever heard of being successful without trying. Igbos are never afraid of trying. remember that all the successful people you know failed severally. igbos are not the yes ma or yes sir tribe. even the wrong move is a good move, just keeping moving and someday you will get to the promise land.

I feel sorry for the southerners insulting Nnamdi….. Nigeria truly does not know the war happening around them only discerning minds can see what is happening thats why elders from southern tribes are rallying around to look for a solution hence Ibadan Declaration, the attack on Nnamdi Kanu was also a warning to the Ibadan Declaration.

Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB is a hot topic amongst International circles especially human rights groups.

I am too weak to write now but with due time I will write what i truly want to say…Make no mistake this is not dying away soon… This is a gun vs ideology movement, like i stated before.

Nigeria is currently fighting two wars i believe…..Oppressed vs Opressors, Christian vs Islam hence why Nnamdi has a lot of fans in Southern Kaduna

@Osa , so they should just forget about the genocide and injustice of the civil war years . My dear, it doesn’t happen like that . We will keep turning round and round in cycles until the ghost of Biafra is appeased.

There is always a right way to do things. Do a research and find out how many Igbos want to go? Nnamdi Kanu came back to Nigeria and felt he can help the igbos by saying all sort of things and throwing insult around. Gathering the innocent, poor and gullible people and Parading himself like God is not the way to go.

No even Igbo I’m a southern but I always says what would ignos get out of leaving?
Lagos has a booming industry(controlled by mostly yorubas)
    Hausa controls govt and farming
Delta has oil( isoko, ijaw, all of that)
What will igbos use as their source of income? Like let’s analyze it?
Who will buy things from your store?( if you leave, most igbos are big business people)
