“Slave Markets”: Nigerians selling Fellow Citizens to Libyan Rebels – Twitter User

A Twitter user @Virus_pluto has said that Nigerians are involved in the auctioning of migrants off as slaves in Libya.

News about “slave markets” (in North Africa, particularly Libya) where Nigerians and other Africans are being sold for $400 or less have been making the rounds after a CNN report was published.

The Twitter user, on his timeline, shared a thread on a friend who attempted crossing from Africa to Europe but was sold off as a slave instead.

The friend eventually found his way back to Nigeria, he wrote, but not before he was sold twice, raped, beaten and abused.

The friend was one of 32 who arrived in Libya in July 2016, out of 49 who left Nigeria.

All of the girls were sold, he wrote, and only 3 of 29 boys made it back home.

Wow! This is heartbreaking and devastating. No words to describe this insanity and darkness. Modern slavery going on by Nigerians themselves.

Sadly, i’m not all surprised. After all it’s fellow Nigerians that use their own kin for sex slavery in Europe. I don’t know why this is any more outrageous.

Nigerians and greed!!!! Na wa oo.
We are not the poorest African country yet we have the highest number of people trying to “escape” poverty by leaving the country. Must you bleach your skin and wear lace wig by force?! Why can;t you stay where you are and do what you can? Its not like they get to the western countries and do better for themselves. Majority of them come in looking for easy money and short cuts. Loads of them flooded to TX last year now they are flooding to Canada (for free govt money) cos hard labor is not their thing apparently.

It is really hard for me to feel bad for Nigerians……..sorry but it just is. And I am a Nigerian.

Now we are talking. Instead of leading protests to western governments, let us look inwards and ask ourselves what the hell is wrong with us when we can sell our own brethren who came to us in dire straits as slaves.

I could not resist the temptation to respond to your comment.
      – Please leave western govt out of this. -Libya is in Africa.
      – What “dire straits” are they in? No job, no light? Pleaseee…. those in “dire straits” are in IDP camps in the north and trust me fleeing the country is the furthest thing on their minds.
      – In the West if you dont have a job you carry your lawn mower and knock door to door or look for something you can do with your HANDS. You dont flee the country.

Please call a spade a spade and stop standing on the wrong side. Call out 419s and 419s to be for who they really are….. seriously, if you want to go the west apply for visa , the worst they can do is say no. Its not like they will flog you at the embassy.

A nigga made it back from libya”…sounds like the beginning of a slave auction. Why use the word nigga in reference to such a sensitive and serious situation.
I am both angered and repulsed at the thought that people equate being black to being less than human.
“Suffer your suffer in your own country…God will answer you one day” from the article to the twitter post to certain comments everything just breaks my heart.
God is not going to come down from heaven a solve our problems for us.
There is no “they”or “them”(“good for them”) as long as you are black it is US.
As the most populated black nation we need to see the blessing in numbers. Just imagine if every single Nigerian had spending power and then reinvested in our economy. No one would need to leave home for “greener pastures”.
We need to be united, and invest in our own. We truly have the power but we allow greedy leaders and people ruin the potential of a whole country with remarks like: “leave them to God” “God will answer you one day”
