Burkina Faso Military Junta Frees Interim President

Gilbert Diendere

Gilbert Diendere, the Head of a military junta in Burkina Faso, which took power on Thursday has on Friday announced the release of the interim President Michel Kafando and two of his ministers.

Diendere, the junta leader, was for three decades the chief military adviser to former President Blaise Compaore.

“I confirm that President Kafando has been freed. He is in good health,’’ he said.
