‘The Figurine’ aims to propel Nigerian cinema to new heights

With many growing bored with the repetitive plots and stagnant production standards of most Nollywood movies, there is excitement building around the release of a new movie ‘The Figureine‘ by emerging Nigerian actor/director Kunle Afolayan. Following the success of his previous movie ‘Iredapa‘, Afolayan has put together an engaging movie with a talented cast. The movie stars which stars Ramsey Nouah, Omoni Oboli, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Tosin Sido, Chief Muraina Oyelami and Kunle Afoloyan tells the tale of ‘two buddies and a girl – all down on their luck who suddenly have their lives changed after one of them discovers ‘Araromire‘; a mysterious figurine in an abandoned shrine which according to ancient legend bestows seven years of good luck. But noone told them what happens after the 7 years are up….’. The movie is being premiered around Nigeria and in other cities around the world. It is enjoying a cinematic release in Nigeria at the Silverbird cinemas, Genesis Deluxe cinemas and Ozone cinemas. Kunle Afolayan has stated that he is aiming for Oscar gold with this feature. We sincerely hope the movie lives up to the hype!

looks interesting…
i am looking forward to this movie cos of only 2 people. Ramsey Nouah and Funlola Aofeyibi – I first saw Funlola in “Keeping Faith” which i watched many years ago starring opposite Genevieve Nnaji, Bimbo Akintola , RMD and Joke Silva, and thought she acted excellent in that role – she played a real convincing bitch having an affair with a married “chief” (as in politician with lots of money), i havent seen her since and always wondered why – but from my understanding she is more of TV than movies, so i am excited to watch this movie with her. She is a phenomenal actress – eloquent and very articulate, acts so fabulously. For those who have never seen Keeping Faith – you can look for it, it is an Excellent Movie by Ego Boyo. Matter of fact my number 1 nollywood movie to date. It will never loose its number 1 spot in my books. I watched it at least 15 times.
Whilst we are on the subject of Movies – i just take any given opportunity to remind everybody to run go grab this new movie “GUILTY PLEASURE” starring Magid Michel (Ghana’s finest & best), Ramsey Nouah, Mercy Johnson, Desmond Elliot and fantastic beautiful talented actress Nse Ikpe Etim of Reloaded fame. If you loved “Reloaded” you probably may love this even more. This movie to me personally has to be the best nollywood EMG movie for 2009 – and produced by our one and only Emem Isong (co produced by Desmond). I just love love love this movie – and trust me i am a huge critic so – trust me when I say the movie was excellent, i woulda given it 10/10 but due to a few bad actors in it i give it 9.5/10.

The movie is already released here in USA (as always is) and from speaking with Emem, it will be premiered this month in naija – so Sister Bella i hope you got ya crew on it like white on rice, with the red carpet and all.

breakthrough oh! Amazing Grace wasn’t enough. It looks scary (for me), but I love the production and marketing.

I went to see this with the husband who doesnt do local content at all. It was a pretty impressive movie. The acting was pretty good – body language and facial expressions instead of yelling into the microphone which is very common with Nigerian movie, the editing was good, cinematography was decent, locations on points….The story – very very good and the twist..definitely a go-see…Kunle Afolayan is doing good things….
While it isnt perfect – what movie is, it is a lot of steps up from what is out there in terms of local content and can only get better…
I was very impressed with the fact that the cinema was fuuuuulllllll and i even sighted some local ‘celebs’ dressed down and enjoying the movie with their friends – loving the support shown….

I saw Guilty Pleasure yesterday. It was aint, not as good as Reloaded, I think!
How much are the tickets? Does anyone know if tickets can be bought online or only at the theatre? It’s still playing in Lagos right?

Watched this movie over the weekend, was quite impressed. i was pleased that the hall was almost full. We got a bonus saw the dircetor outside the screening room, he took pictures with some of us viewers.

Is it being released in London or the UK? Seems like a good movie. Trailer is good too. Need to improve the quality of Nollywood films.
