The 2010 edition of the Soundcity Music Video Awards took place on Saturday, 20th of November 2010. As expected, it was an exciting show onstage but there was something else that stood out! – What you ask? The RED CARPET!
Musicians, celebrities, socialistas and the moving loving crowd worked hard to put their best style foot forward.
We are uber excited about this edition of BN Red Carpet Fab because we spotted lots of guys and dolls in pieces by African designers.
On the flipside, many veered on the side of caution by sticking to black looks in classic shapes, they looked good, however, it would have been good to see more people pushing the style envelope.
Without further ado, enjoy the most comprehensive and exciting red carpet coverage of the 2010 SMVAs.

BN Picks – It was a tough battle but we just had to pick our favourites.
Tiwa Savage was glowing in this floor-length aquamarine dress by Toju Foyeh. The deep v sweetheart neckline adds a touch of sex appeal to her look.. Her dark centre-parted locks and gold accessories complete this look. We hear Tiwa was styled by Bolaji Animashaun. A+

The last time Omowunmi Akinnifesi wore Jewel by Lisa at a major music event (the 2010 HHWAs), the reviews were mixed. This time, we are sure her look will receive a resounding thumps up. Her hair, accessories and dress…the whole look is stunning! We love how she went with a bold choice of colour – coral – for her clutch and earrings.

In a few short months, Adebayo Oke-Lawal has gone from a young university student to a budding designer and red carpet standout. His look at the 2010 SMVAs was impressive. We love the use of colour and the excellent fit of the pieces.

This is what ‘dapper’ looks like. Clean lines, excellent tailoring and fit plus a mischievous smile. Love it! Nice one Darey.

Adora Oleh brought classic high fashion to the SMVA 2010 red carpet. Her strapless dove grey dress by upcoming Nigerian designer Mariam Ilaka is definitely not ‘basic grey’, the effect of the tulle detail adds outstanding texture to her look. Her accessories were understated yet complemented her dress excellently.

Naeto C always stands out on the red carpet! This is how to do the contemporary hiphop star look and do it well. The grey and white palette is clean and on trend. His grey jacket completes his look to perfection.

Yay! for Waje‘s look, her dress totally flatters her figure, her hair frames her face perfectly, shoes are on point and you can see from her pose that she is totally confident and loving it!

The Good: Sasha’s shoes are on point. Where did she get them? Ms. Akinnifesi looks amazing. Her look is so different from her normal look, which I find to be “vanilla” and underwhelming. I hope she continues this new fashion forward look. Ms. Savage looks gorgeous. Ms. Sanda looks absolutely sexy, polished, and sophisticated. Sometimes in a bid to look sexy, some women just come off looking hookerish. That is definitely not the case here.
The Bad: Without naming names, some attendees need to realize the nature of the function they are attending and dress appropriately. Okay, I will name one person, but only as an example: Ms. Kaffy’s dress does not fit the function. Her dress is more appropriate for prom or as a bridesmaid in someone’s wedding. Her hair is nicely styled though. She just needs a different dress.
The Ugly: BN, instead of “Red Carpet Rebellion”, you should have captioned it, “Red Carpet Disaster”! Chei! I know that BN is trying to be diplomatic so as not to offend, but clearly these individuals must not have friends or family members that could have been honest with them before they left the house dressed as they did.
