The 24th edition of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant took place tonight at the Eko Hotel in Lagos. Sylvia Nduka a University of Lagos Accountancy undergraduate from Anambra State was crowned as the winner of the competition.
Sylvia’s official title is Miss MBGN World 2011 and she will represent Nigeria in the 2011 Miss World competition which is being held in London later this year. Her prize includes a brand new Hyundai car and a 3 million Naira cash prize. Sylvia also won the MBGN 2011 Best Traditional Costume prize.

Which brains? You didn’t bother to comment on the massive degeneration of our “University” system? Hardly will you find an institution of higher learning in Nigeria that could be compared to other internationally known schools from the Western world.
For instance the only Business School to feature in the top 1 percent of elite B- schools in the world was/is the Capetown GSB.

look at the first and original set of pictures that were taken as soon as she was chosen. she was the most naturel and still stood out from the girls wearing gallons of makeup. IMO she is beautiful. although i didnt get to watch it, i still think she is beautiful, and i am pleased with the results.

Amaka you need to watch it and you’ll understand. Her diction is poor and she got the simplest question which was “why do you want to be MBGN?” and she couldn’t answer. It’s sad that she was still picked because she’s now the ambassador at Miss World. It all boils down to corruption. Blame the makeup artists for the makeup, compared to other girls she wasn’t the prettiest girl. So what criteria did they use? Who were the judges btw?
and rem this is a girl who is going to represent nigeria at the miss world pagent. i wonder how shes going to answer the questions there when she can even answer the ones that was asked here. God help Nigeria we already have a bad image we dont need this to add to it.
I didn’t see any ex-beauty queen on the judges’ table, just an actress and a bunch of ppl who don’t know jack about beauty pageants. I don’t think she deserved to win, except the judged her based on what happened at the camp that we didn’t know about.

This has been by far the worst MBGN l have seen ……how can Miss Taraba win the crown when she doesnt even know What MBGN is all about,what was that nonsense she was saying about “proise and elegance” is that the gutter she could utter ,what was the criteria for selecting the Judges and the top five contestant. From the start the show dragged on with the talkative lady on the red carpet, to the boring host and hostess, to the artistes who couldnt please the crowd, to stage management and the drab outfits some contestants were made to wear……..haba na…MBGN una no try at all, pls reimburse the audience cos it wasnt worth the money they paid ……..It is obvious brain, poise and elegance is not needed all u need is to be long and dumb …..and before u know it ure the next MBGN……..MBGN na u biko…….keep up being boring

When i posted earlier on that the standards have fallen and Ben and Murrey bruce family has held this franchise for ever and yet the quality of girl they have picked has shown the level of corruption and moral decadence in the whole system first and foremost are not the contestants to have worn there various state titles before coming to the national, secondly isnt english our lingua franca, thirdly what does Mr femi Solebo of NOTORE know about judging a beuty pagent or is that panel of judges just for show, come on guys we talk about corruption in politics but its every where look at the caliber of contestants in the MISS World pagents some medical doctors, some speak 6 languages and yet we are still stuggling with intonation and figure its high time we start sending contestants that reflect our country nigeria. i just read the news today a model lily Cole graduated with double first class from cambridge university and we are here pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I am highly disappointed with the show organizers and the quality of the cheeks

Wen they chose top 5, i and my mom got into an argument about who wud win. I went for bayelsa, mum went 4 taraba. She told me they’d pick her for her height. And it’s true she was d tallest among them. Has good face structure etc.
Beauty is nt about being a yello popo (mind u, i’m also fair skinned). They must have taken alot into consideration as well.

To be honest…MBGN 2011 was a huge disappointment. Starting from the organization of the show, from watching it on tv it was soo obvious that the show wuz poorly organized. Lets now talk about the lady who took the crown home *sigh*…MBGN cud du way better. The judges i believe were the problem because if we take our time to look at the people who were called upon to judge the show, they have absolutely little or no knowledge about wht it takes to be a a beauty queen. What would an MD of classic beverages know about poise or modeling poses? What happened to calling people who breathe pageantry, who are at the top of their game in the fashion/modeling industry?? Agbani darego, munachi abii, adaeze igwe, oluchi, kelechi amadi obi, eleanor goodey, lilian unachukwu, deola sagoe…I could go on and on and on. Im sorry to say but miss taraba is the contestant who least deserved that crown awtta the top 5, i mean she had the lamest answer to the easiest question. Miss Bayelsa and Miss Lagos had the best answers and people could even tell from the way the crowd kept on cheering for them both…corruption has eaten deep into our country mehn and its soo bad. If someone cud not answer a question that simple, how do you seriously think that at world level, she can do better. If we all remember, it was agbani’s answer to a question that brought nigeria that crown. the deed has been done sha…lets just hope for a better result next year.

lol, she was Miss Kaduna in the 2010 Miss Nigeria Competition, she didnt even make the top 10. When the results were read, I heard she threw a angry fit backstage and wouldnt come back out with the other contestants onto the stage. All she does is enter pageants.
She answered the question the worst for this MBGN. And everyone was talking about her winning before the show was over. She told everyone she was going to win at the MBGN camp, she couldnt even keep her bribery and corruption to herself. Typical Nigerian. I pity the youth of this counntry.

There should be an investigation. Everyone should protest for an investigation. I mean for goodness sakes Miss Nigeria has won Miss World, we are major players in this pageant thing. So what is this step backwards that Silverbird Group wants us to chop?

I gave up on MGBN many years ago, u can tell there is a lot of dirty politics going on, i miss the god old days when the real queens were chosen based on poise, elegance , DICTION and beauty. If she had spoken in another way, you would have accused her of trying to be foreign. If you think you are better than her, why not compete yourselves before judging others? I wonder why the MBGN website does not have the news and photographs or videos of the event and the Silverbird TV website cannot show them 24 hours after the show? And how can you report it without the photographs of the winner being crowned and with her crown on her head? The 2011 Miss USA pageant sent out press release with the photographs and videos of the event and winner for reporters and posted online and offline. Did Bella Naija go to the event without a camera or photographer? Even a camera phone would have produced more appropriate photographs for a good report. Only a foreign website has the photographs of the 2011 MBGN winner wearing her crown posing with the others at the event. Wake Up Nigeria and Catch Up or be left behind in the global village where news travels at the speed of light and news is best reported illustrated with appropriate photographs. This is the 21 century and not the 19th century!

Last year Sylvia Nduka was 20yrs….dis year she’s still 20yrs…C’mon is she 4real??? On a serious note she MUST improve her diction plus her approach to giving answers if she most pull through @all in the upcoming Miss World Pageant later dis year.Grace Ndam(Miss Lagos) might as well be her reference….LOL!!!

From the boring performances to the not so good hosts especially the guy to the wrong choreographer and the wrong attires especially the ones they wore during wande cool’s performance down to the undeserving Queen. Silverbird didn’t do well at all, this is the worst so far. To the queen, you have won and we can’t change it but please improve on your diction and work on your composure. I wish you the best even if I know you shouldn’t have won. Maybe that’s the will of GOD. Take my advice and a safe trip to London

u guys should free d gurl joor,it’s obvious that she was picked for reasons that superside elonquence.inner beauty, character, humility, team play were all assessed in the camp and d winner was picked before d D-day. The question and answer section was only a neccessary stage performance. if we noticed the order in which d contestants answered the question was d same order in which they won.it’s hightime we dumped unneccesary criticism and believed that fair judgement can actually come to play in our dear country

Honestly Silverbird has lost it! The last set of best queens they had were the likes of Munachi and Adaeze. Ever since then, its been RUBBISH. I was at the show and i was shocked to c Miss Taraba emerge winner. She couldnt even express herself despite d fact dat her question was d easiest and simplest. Im disappointed in the Silverbird group. The show is getting worse every year.
