As the news disseminated from Warri in Delta State to all corners of the country, the hot topic on Nigerian social networks yesterday, Sunday 11th November 2012 was the multi-million dollar private place gifted to President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)/President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) – Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.

The pastor celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Word of Life Bible Church in Warri, Delta State with dignitaries including the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.

During the anniversary event, the mega gift was presented by a member of the Word of Life Bible Church’s pastoral team and was greeted with loud applause and cheers from the congregation. According to reports, the jet was a surprise gift to the pastor and will aid in transporting him to his various international preaching engagements. The pastor is regularly invited to preach and minister in churches and during religious events all around the world. Hmmmmmmmm! to each their own! It is the body of Esau but the voice of Jacoub. congratulations all the same

Ok. I think people get hung up on the wrong things. It’s simple, find your home church, go there, worship and serve. No need to get involved in church politics.
I couldn’t careless if the church gave him a Country as a gift. Our focus should be on eternity and not be distracted by things such as this.
He got a Jet. Good for him. He’s not the first, he won’t be the last.. Next….

If you are person of integrity, where you worship and who you worship with matters…you can’t click ignore and next and say you’re focusing on eternity…your action and association in this life pave the way to heaven or hell…when the devil can’t reach us in big things he uses little things that we consider trivial till we lose the plot…’oh think twice, there’s another day 4 u and me in paradise’….

If you’re Not concerned with “shepherds living their best life now”, then like Paul says take inventory of your heart. Things like this should be addressed. Ignorance is bliss, I guess…

  • PP November 12, 2012 at 1:31 pm

yes my dear some people are dying on hunger now no food to it but the church gave him jet, instead of assisting the poor

  • Tempo November 12, 2012 at 1:42 pm

And what about the total cost of ownership for a jet which includes hanger fees, maintenance fees, pilot and flight crew fees?
Will the congregration also fund these costs or will his ‘salary’ accomodate them? Either way, church offering and tithes from the congregation can be used more efficiently to propagate the gospel if indeed that is still the priority.
Even if he must fly private, he can charter a private jet. My concern is that the nigerian churches are becoming a micro subset of nigerian government where the people are forbidden to ask questions.

  • hmmm November 12, 2012 at 1:45 pm

Yet people are out there starving with no roofs over their heads. Na wa o!

  • Pissed November 12, 2012 at 1:55 pm

Its funny, how those that back pastors having private jets, suddenly don’t have anything to say, when i tell them David Cameron doesnt own a private jet, and he flys using British Airways. So, please tell me which pastor, has a schedule as busy as the British Prime Minister. These disgusting display of money, is the reason why I pay a percentage of my income directly to charities, rather than give it to some greedy pastor. Only from Nigerians will you hear the crap called dont judge. They are MOG abi, proove it please, because I can wake up one day to and start up a church and claim to be a MOG. We are truly living in the end times. Continue being deluded. We are the most religious nation on earth, yet, Nigeria is like hell on earth, thats your proof, that these churches have no impact on our society, so what are they there for, if not to make their pastors rich. Oyedepo has more than one. i will like to hear people defend that.

    • Pinky November 12, 2012 at 2:08 pm

I remember during the olympics i saw david cameron on the tube. I dont understand why majority of Nigerians can not be rational about giving gifts. $4.9m will build a mega hospital in Warri and you can even name the hospital after him sef! Chances are that said hospital will directly affect the community compared to a private jet. Think of doctors and nurses that would be employed, patients that will have access to medical care…common guys! Its not rocket science.
That said, i think some gifts just have to be declined especially as a Man of God. Do our pastors even ask for the source of wealth of their members? I bet stolen govt funds finds its way to church thru tithe and such gifts.

        True talk!

      • Idak November 12, 2012 at 6:11 pm

In African culture, you don’t refuse gifts :-)
        Abi you no know?

      • Nma November 12, 2012 at 7:49 pm

That could have been an awesome idea. Unfortunately these pastors dissuade their followers from going to hospitals. They take subliminal jabbs at doctors and science and make assertions to how these docs know nothing. Subconsciously, these followers end up having this “anti-hospital” mentality and will even refuse meds/treatments because they are told to just follow their pastor’s preachings for healings. They fail to realize that the wisdom of these docs came from the same God who himself is the greatest physician…and even had a physician as one of his apostles.
Building a hospital or n e thing that will make people not completely depend on them is not on their agenda. They would rather invest the money in their personal oil firms, real estate properties, their personal schools which they use the name of the church to front (meanwhile most members cant even afford), many private jets, lavish cars, mansions etc. The private jet purchase isnt even the main issue…but the maintenance is where the real money goes. Hundreds of thousands spent on the maintenance of one jet….times 4 for oyedepo. Yet many members are beyond poor. These poor members still give the pennies they have because they are told to give all they have in “faith” and God will replenish it. My people perish for lack of knowledge! They’d rather live in false hope than live a truly meaningful life which doesn’t need false hopes of future lavish wealth. SMH

      • Nma November 12, 2012 at 7:57 pm

I meant hundreds of thousands of dollars a month for the maintenance of one jet….

    • partyrider November 12, 2012 at 3:38 pm

      very well said

    • Nma November 12, 2012 at 7:31 pm

Take 5!!!!!! I couldn’t have said it any better! I too used to attend Winners and gave even more than was required: my first month of work income, more than 10% of my tithe, offering, shiloh sacrifice, etc. I had a major wakeup call when i really started reading these bible verses that these pastors use to “extort” money in its entirety and realized that we often got the half truths. For instance: malachi:3:8-12 that they ever so often use, is taken out of context. If u read from chapter 1, u’ll see that these scriptures (esp: “will a man rob God” which they tell us is referring to people not paying their tithes/offerings to the church) actually refer to the sons of Levites(the priests) who were mismanaging the money people brought into the store house to be used for what it was intended for, ie: for the poor, widowed, and the sustenance(not lavishment) of the priests. It is also interesting that back then, tithes and offerings were mostly food items…but today, i think its only the catholic church that accepts food gifts. Also interesting that some of these “men of God” often write off some laws/scriptures in the old testament since Christ brought on a new beginning…but they r quick to uphold some laws in the same old testament that will favor them. In the new testament, the laws from Christ to us about giving had to do with charity and love to others without bar….ie give to the less needy, to ur neighbors out of love and as much as u can give, not just 10%. There is just soooooo much foolishness going on in the “christian community” that embarrasses the heck out of me…most notably: Pastor worship. People reverence their pastors more than they do God’s word because they r constantly intimidated by “mandates” and “proclamations”. Real humanity and exhibition of the love of Christ is giving out of love to help the needy….not giving foolishly to help ur already massively lavished pastors! I just dont understand why these people can’t use the discernment God gave them. These multi-million dollar churches dont have prolific charity organizations that help the needy (which is what the offerings/tithes is meant for in the 1st place). Its a shame that non-believers like oprah, bono, richard branson, bill gates etc are the real philanthropists…..its even more shameful that all of them are donating money they made off their own back, and not off the backs of their gullible members! Oyedepo, ayo, and co will not give u a ride with that jet neither will they give u a check for ur children’s school fees in ur time of need….they will not give u a bag of garri either when u can’t afford to feed ur family, and do not expect them to pay ur hospital bill either. Their preachings center around “teaching u how to fish, and not giving u the fish”. Meanwhile, Jesus fed the 5,000 FIRST before preaching to them…true compassion! Pastors operate the best schools in the nation that most of their cong. cannot even afford! High standards or not, it shows where ur priorities are; obviously not on the souls of the people u are guarding, but on yo money. For those that r still oblivious to these schemes….why would a pastor like oyedepo strategically place his two sons in the two most lucrative branches of his church (apart from the two major ones him and his vice heads in naija). Does it mean that there were no men of God serving under him that qualified? Family Business toh bad. Unfortunately, Nigerians can be loyal to a fault only when it comes to their pastors…nothing u say no matter how sensible will shake ‘em up…until God touches them himself. I feel like these churches r overly populated with so many gullible givers who their hope is to be like oyedepo and the likes too. Every winners member then will be quick to tell u about their future private jet, and it was almost seen as taboo if u accepted a “normal, simple life”. They r quick to tell u how papa was once poor when he first started his church, but is now monstrously rich….(well duuh! lol).

Sha, the summary of this my rant is: I was once blind, and now i can see and i have never been happier. Like u too, i make personal donations to charities or sometimes someone i may know going thru hard times. I also give my tithes/offerings monthly to my local church here because i know the money is used to the church upkeep, pastor’s sustenance and they actually do give to the needy in the community…and even go as far as going to mission trips to diff African, Asian and S. American nations helping the poor there and spreading the gospel. Oh yea, and the pastor (one of the most respected here in America) does not own private jets, and condemns “prosperity preachers”. His focus is on the unadulterated word of God and i love it!

  • dont mention November 12, 2012 at 2:56 pm

i agree with eery single comment abov except ejogene n chattyzee. this things r not that exclusive u know, the bible tells us to live our faith chattyzee, so u cannot expect people to give a blind eye to the fact a pastor recieves a jet as a gift when there r people in his church who r starving and yet, bring the last kobo they hav to church as tithes bc the bible tells them too, n yet their pastor goes out to chatter a jet in the name of a gift. he probably used the word gift as a disguise. i dont blame him though, i blame us, the africans or nigerians esp who hav turned to worship these pastors instead of God. how a woman tells me to pay money for somebody too pray for me is still beyond me. since we decided to look at them like gods, that is why they will keep doing things like that. there r people with no homes, no food, no clothes, people in need of medical care that cannot afford but we hear of him buying a jet n someone will come n say soon, that we dont know that he is not doing all that, well, he is not bc if he was, then peoples lives , those in his church would b much better.same like pastor creflo dollar who had someone shot in his church, n instead of him, in the goodness of his heart as a leader cover a cost of $234,000 which he easily has from the money he has, he asked the congregation to make offerings n i hav friends who hav been going to this churhc for years, their situation is getting worse but they praise creflo like he is a god. God will judge us all.

    1. during jesus time he rode on white horse……then that is for kings

    2. jesus requested the upper room for the last supper….now in this present time that is presidential or executive suit…….

    3. when jesus died……his muderers shared his expensive garment for sale…..

    4. when jesus died …..only a rich man like joseph of arimathea would have been able to have his body….

if God ade solomon the richest person in the world during that time…….Why didn’t God give all solomon’s wealth to the poor…….

we are happy when non christians and non believers become rich and ride on private jets……but when pastors and those in the church ride on private jets and become rich….we say that they have forgotten the poor………

church is the business of God and the reward is higher than your so called industrial business………

if you tell or ask any poor man to visit the church of oyedepo or read about bill gates, mike murdock ….the will say no……..

every human being has the choice to be rich or poor………….

from my understanding being rich would make it easier for me to go to heaven than being poor……..

    • Gold digger November 12, 2012 at 4:51 pm

@ nich, you must be reading a different bible ….SMH

    • chichi November 12, 2012 at 4:58 pm

@ nich im sorry to say this nich but you are quite ignorant…Stop twisting the bible for your own selfish purpose
1 jesus rode on a horse one time and it was given to him by people who believed that he was the messiah and as he rode on it, they spread palm branches to welcome him.. However jesus did not get sidetracked by the glory and all because ppl wanted to seize him to become king on earth at that time but he refused it and said his kingdom is no part of this world. His purpose on earth was to die for us and talk about his own kingdom which is coming soon..In contrast, you have some religious leaders striving for political seats..some even trying to be president..explain that…..
point number 2, 3, 4 does not make any sense..What does Jesus choosing the upper room and joseph claiming jesus body have to do with the topic at hand..
Point number 5. True solomon was blessed with wealth and that is because he asked for wisdom from God to rule his people. So guess what HE WAS A KING not a religious leader back then or a prophet.so if he was rich, who cares…im surprised you didnt say that jesus 12 disciples were his body guards so that you can use that to defend the pastors who walk around with body guards today. lol..and yes people can praise business men who are successful today because they worked hard for it. However, what these pastors do is grab other peoples money in the name of giving to christ, then they use their money to invest on schools and so forth to gain more money.. ALL FOR THEMSELVES..As for you, if you think being rich is the way to heaven then goodluck with that..just remember matt 6:33

      • FAB November 15, 2012 at 11:01 pm

Lol!!! That homie Nich is a big church fool! The bodyguard part rilly cracked me up.

  • Style@Atl November 12, 2012 at 3:20 pm

Absolutely dispeakable and as a child of God i know God isn’t happy when the people in the church don’t have and all these millions in purchase and cost of maintenance will be wasted monthly. The word of God says ur tithing and offering is to share to the poor amongs u, not even for this so called preaching d gospel around d world they came up with which is not in the Bible…It is ‘so noone will lack amongs you’..No way a good God can be happy with this situation of pastors on the earth that is why u must study the word for yourself and show yourself approved.

  • Frank November 12, 2012 at 3:40 pm

Pastors are riding jet whereas so many of the church members cant afford 3 meals a day. We complain that things are hard, orphanage children are crying for hungry, flood victims are suffering for lack of food and shelter.
yet they still preach to us to be our brothers keeper “HOW” when they cant show example. The money used in buyer jet can be used to train the youths or provide shelter for the flood victims or free education or scholarships for the young generation. This is just my suggestion

  • chichi November 12, 2012 at 3:45 pm

@ pissed, pinky and bright..YOU BETTER PREACH!!!…Sometimes i weep at how ignorant my ppl are…You dare not talk about these pastors on fb for example cos people will descend on you “touch not God’s anointed”.lol..God gave us a brain and he expects us to use it. The bible clearly says by their fruits you shall know them..The person they claim to follow, jesus, did not even own a donkey while he traveled from city to city preaching… These ones will climb stage and half of their talk will be about the bible, the other half will be about being a cheerful giver or reaching deep deep in your pockets and giving to christ.lol..These same religious leaders romance politicians which jesus never did. Infact he said my kingdom is no part of this world..Once again, by their fruits you shall know them..open your eyes ppl

So he should now feed all the poor and hungry in nigeria?what makes you think he doesn’t help the less privileged?who are we to judge anyone?you can all start by selling your cars/gadgets/weaves/clothes/shoes/bags e.t.c and contribute them to the poor!

    • Pissed November 12, 2012 at 4:34 pm

shut up. No one is asking for him to feed the poor. David Cameron does not have a private jet. Oyedepo has two. If that isnt irony of the highest order, I dont know what is. You must be one of those sheeple (sheep+people), who have turned your pastors into idols of worship. What does a pastor need a private jet for, lets forget the poor for only a few seconds. Only a few seconds o.

  • Akosua November 12, 2012 at 4:30 pm

to the nay sayers you too, instead of using your money to buy brazilian weaves and blackberry why dont YOU give it to the poor.

I hate it when ppl like you criticize pastors. The congregation bought it for him so what is your problem. Is it your money. I am a member of Creflo Dollar Church here in atlanta and before he bought his private jet he had a hard time gettin on commercial flights to be on time to places he had to go preach – Creflo Dollar preaches in about 6 different places each week, He preaches in NY on Saturdays and has to be in Atlanta live on Sunday – who can possibly do that on a commercial flight and waiting in line.
same with Franklin Jentzen who has a church in Gainsville GA where he preaches on Sundays and then on Saturdays flies to Orange County California to preach. Who can do that waiting on commercial flights with so many delays and cancellation. Having a private transportation is the only way they can reach the masses in a short time.

The church doesnt even pay creflo dollar a salary, he gets paid from the sale of his boooks and tape. We as a congregation get an annual report every year (as we did last 3 weeks) of all the places our money is going. Do you even know the amount of schools we as a church are building in more than a 100 countries, do you know to have your sermon showed on tv (TBN or Word channel) the millions of dollars it cost for a 30 minutes slot.

Becareful what you say about pastors as such because if you dont watch out you curse yourself.

The ppl who criticise the most are the same fools who dont even pay a dime of tithe or offering.

Do not judge them if you dont know what you are talking about.

You always hear the private jets but the media NEVER talks about the many good they are doing like their charitable stuff they are doing and giving to MILLIONS of ppl. You just want to concentrate on the private jet.

    • Idak November 12, 2012 at 5:26 pm

Out of 24 hr day these pastors are spending like 20 hrs dedicating their life to Gods work preaching.
Be careful what you say about pastors as such because if you dont watch out you curse yourself.

The comments above are so laughable. That ‘touch not my anointed’ trend is so last century and is the hallmark of a congregation that has been sucked in my a good dose of Manipulation, Seduction and control.
For you information, God is not in the business of cursing people. Not even for the cause of Creflo your pastor.

    • Abi November 12, 2012 at 10:53 pm

  • Akosua November 12, 2012 at 4:34 pm

yes they are using private jets, so foreinstance creflo is going to walmart and he will say to Taffi, hey Taffi give me the keys to the jet i need to stop by walmart to buy something.

These pastors dont even have personal lives let alone enjoy luxurys as you are judging them to do.

Out of 24 hr day these pastors are spending like 20 hrs dedicating their life to Gods work preaching, all over the world – what are you doing apart from watching your reality tv and surfing facebook. You really do have some nerve judging. Who have you brought to christ in the last decade.?

    • Idak November 12, 2012 at 5:16 pm

I don’t even know where to start with you. I tried typing several times but just gave up. However, i feel great pity for you and anyone who thinks like you. As a fellow Christian, i am greatly worried that you have succumbed to so much manipulation, seduction and control. That can be the only reason why you make such ill conceived defences over the glutinous appetites of men who pretend they are doing you and i any favour by being pastors.

Tanx Nich, i wont pay tithe o, i’d’rather give to a poor man in need.y’all talking of Gods judgement are sheeple as someone said earlier, u dont need to be poor cos ur a pastor, all dos against are trying to say is, a jet is very expensive, to buy n’to maintain, for pits sakes people cant bring dia offerings to d’church n’d’church wud gada d’moni togeda n’buy d’pastor a jet, all d’private uni’s’owned by churches were built with church peoples tithe n’offerings, but how many of dis church memebers who believ so much in dia pastors can send dia kids to dis schools? Let God be the judge o, if u want to be a fool, be a fool, dt is ur biz. Me,i wud not give my money to any pastore to be living like a king, bfore you know it they start actin like demi gods. Abeg abeg.

  • Idak November 12, 2012 at 5:46 pm

    @Akosa,
Creflo Dollars does not need to preach in 6 places in a week and using that as an excuse for buying a jet is simply laughable.
You say you hate it when Pastors are criticized. Why should they not be criticized? I am only upset when they are insulted, same way i’ll be if you or any blogger is insulted (though i’ve never met you). Pastors are just humans and this tendency of placing them on pedestals and making them look super human is ungodly, bothering on manipulation and witchcraft.
Yet again, you say they have no personal lives let alone enjoying luxuries. Are you for real?
It is Creflo’s prerogative whether he chooses to take a salary or not but that can not be used as a justification for ostentatious living bothering on indecency.

    • Akosua November 12, 2012 at 7:54 pm

Do you know the charitable things World Changers are doing in the world. Schools, Hospitals etc etc. I bet you dont. I do, So keep quiet. Stop letting media talk dangle carrot in your face -

Left to ppl like you alone all pastors should walk barefoot wearing a sorong preaching cos that is what RELIGION told you it was like.

To each his own – we can agree to disagree. I will continue to be a faithful tithe payer and if the pastor is chopping my money i will let God be the judge – DEFINATELY NOT YOU being the judge. Thank you and take a couple of seats – BYE!!!!!!!

@Akosua, i meant. sorry for the typo.

  • Ayo November 12, 2012 at 5:52 pm

    Being a christian for some time, i worry a bit (ok a lot) about how our faith is “read” by all around us, and I feel I must speak for those like me – just two things;

    1. If a pastor cannot make an appointment to preach because of logistical issues, then maybe he really wasn’t meant to be there. The GOD i serve gets things done! and if he really needed for someone to hear you preach, trust me, they will…no PJ needed.

    2. Secondly, if we really wanted to preach the word and send a clear message about GOD’s glory and magnanimity…imagine the impact if only a few (not all) of the church heads who own jets, sold them and used the proceeds to build a childrens hospital in Lagos and ,and mandated the congregation to use the forgone running cost to run the hospital for 5 years. If it did happen, maybe we wouldn’t need to travel so often to preach the word, just the sheer amount of global media coverage will give them (the pastors) rest.

Win, win all round if you ask me. You know what i might just champion this initiative!

All you defending the actions of these pastors should just SHUT UP! Lets even forget about feeding/helping the poor. What manner of urgency does he have that if he is late/unable to show up at an appointment or program? Is it a matter of life and death? Please spare me and open your eyes instead of following blindly. And no one should please talk to me about judge not and the likes! Instead of focusing on the issues at hand and also ‘mentoring’ his mentee-jonathan on doing right by the country instead of stealing government funds, he is there smiling at the ‘gift’. I wonder how the money for the jet was funded. My guess is the governor of the state as well as jonathan made some contributions to it and I suppose their contribution was from their ‘personal stash of millions’. We all know how to quote the bible to suit our purpose, let’s forget the bible for a minute and think about this act deeply and let’s be true to ourselves.

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” – Mahatma Gandhi. With the average poverty level of Nigeria at 80% and 51.6 % living below the poverty level (meaning extreme abject poverty) – I wonder how anyone can justify buying a private jet for the pastor when there are millions and millions of people living in slums and the majority cannot afford a meal at all. A lot of Nigerians tend to have the Showy, gaudy and flashy lifestyle – they constantly want to prove that they have arrived. I have absolutely no problem with being wealthy, however if you claim or call yourself a Christian and majority of the people you are surrounded by live in abject poverty and you there parading with your private jet – then there is something wrong with that. WWJD — hmmn what will Jesus do – I don’t think Jesus will have been parading around in a private jet when the people around him are suffering and dying. I know some people will want to justify this by saying he needs the jet to reach out – There are so may things they could have done that will still have brought people to Christ. How about building a homeless shelter, orphanage, charity shops like Salvation army or Goodwill. Reach out to the people surrounding you first and neighborhood before gallivanting with a private jet.

—It’s pretty sad the way a lot of Nigerians idolize pastors like they are gods. A true Christian is supposed to follow only Christ and look up to him and no other human being. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard some Nigerian Christians say things like my pastor said so, I am waiting for the reverend in my church to approve this and that – How about finding and depending on God yourself instead of waiting for pastor A or B. Pastors are PEOPLE – imperfect sinners. So like any other person they are they are naturally subject to becoming big-headed or conceited. They never intend to, but they can’t help it. It’s very easy for a pastor to get stuck on himself when people are constantly telling him how good his/her sermon is. It leads them to believe that they are the ones responsible for the good done. Christians glorify God through the efforts your pastors/reverend are making, not glorify the pastor.
    PEACE!

am just curious who are u alll judging – The GIFTEE or the GIFTOR.

I ask again why dont yall leave your fake brazilian weaves – go to the ghettos – adopt a child school fees and tell em you will pay their fees for a year, or help build a school. At least many of these pastors are doing that and you are not. So shut up.!!!!! U really have the nerve in judging.

Go stand in mirrow and judge your self first

Getting your panties all tight up in bunch cos church members decided to gift their pastor transportation to do his job better. IS IT YOUR MONEY -EHEN NOW if not then shut up and go use your own brazlian and blackberry handset money to serve the poor. At least many of these pastors are serving many poors that you dont know about. Mtschewwwww

    • Nma November 12, 2012 at 8:14 pm

Actually yes, it is our money. The money of the gullible followers. I could care less whether Bill Gates gives to charity because the money he makes, he made off his own back. But the public has EVERY RIGHT to speak up against the mismanagement of funds in the church because it is not being used for the right purposes as directed in Deuteronomy, and even Malachi:3 which these pastors often reference to (if u read from chapter 1, u’ll see that “will a man rob God” was actually referring to the Levites(the priests/pastors) who were mismanaging tithes/offerings brought into the store house….not the members as often asserted by these pastors). A pastor who’s investments are not towards to souls and upliftment of the people he Shepherds, but instead into his own personal businesses should absolutely be questioned. In all the places where tithes and offerings were referred to in the Bible, it was meant to be used specifically for the poor, widowed and the sustenance(not enrichment) of pastors(since the priests in the bible didnt work outside of being men of God).

Read the word for urself and stop following blindly….also read the word in all its entirety and dont just agree with scriptures taken out of context.

Yes, many of these pastors have invested their money into several businesses, but the capital still came from the tithes/offerings/sacrifices/pastor’s appreciation offerings etc which they still receive.

Besides all that, a true man of God will the compassion of Christ is supposed to have the spiritual, as well as the physical needs of his people at heart. If the body dies, what soul will u save? When Christ fed the 5000 with his word, did he not feed their bodies first?

Christianity has become such a joke recently because of the Christians themselves. Most people now go to church for what they can get and not for spiritual growth anymore. Spiritual growth is sprinkled here and there in sermons, but the bulk of it still boils down to “giving”. We give and give, yet u dont see what the money is used for. Non-believers are the main philanthropists instead….oprah is giving and building schools for free yet she is not a christian, Bill gates gives so much to charity, so does many other non-christian celebs. If Christianity was the way it was in the 60s/70s when missionaries built free schools, orphanages, homes for the needy, perhaps many will be compelled to accept Christ.

I am still struggling to understand why you are upset that folks have the nerve to criticize (judge as you call it). Why should pastors be immune from criticism. Any scriptural reference? Pls not the usual ones.

  • nich November 12, 2012 at 7:55 pm

I am still rejoicing that mike murdock called me on the phone the other day…………atleast it was his voice……he now has his 3rd private jet……..i know God will help me to own one soon……….

Kingdom wealth is real………i will say one thing to somebody who is wise here……there is a difference between giving to the house of God and the poor or charity……i will advice that if you have the privilege give to them both………….

    may God give us wisdom

  • nich November 12, 2012 at 8:02 pm

I want to also add that private jet is nothing b4 God…………….

somebody mentioned kings……….the kings then in the bible such as the ones appointed by God were also spiritual leaders at that time…….leading the people to obey God………..

wealth comes to anyone that seeks for it….whether pastor or a student……..the rule is that if you keep calling for it …eventually it answers

  • nita November 12, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Careful, so that what should happen. We should be quaking in our boots with fear. You have turned the pastors to untouchables, they should not be criticised. Touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm, is taken in the wrong context, cos you CANNOT compare the prophets in the Bible to this business men. So, it is a huge insult, to the point of blasphemy sef, to compare prophets in the Bible, to Oyedobe and his ilk. David Cameron DOES NOT own a private jet for official business. Please don’t be ignorant. On his official trips, as Prime Minister, He flies commercial. Even on one of his holidays to spain, he flew Easyjet with his wife. Point of correction. Oyedepo’s excuse and all the rest of the end time pastors, are that they need the jet for official business. So, tell me jare, if David Cameron flies BA on official business, what schedule does a 9ja pastor have, that he needs a private jet, or 2 or 3. Please tell me. Like dapsy said “What manner of urgency does he have that if he is late/unable to show up at an appointment or program?” You are the one that is deluded. Blind worship of a mere man. They have instilled fear in you, and taking away your ability to reason. I am truly sorry for you. End time pastors people. It is in the same bible that you use to defend them. Remember, that same bible talking about end time preachers? Of course not. Oyedepo and co, don’t read that out during sunday service. Mschew

      ODE #2!!!!!!!!

      1) Musicians/artists make money from their hard work, and there was never a contract that obligates them to give their money to charity. It is a business, and they do not front that its otherwise. On the other hand, it is blatantly stated in the BIBLE that the use of church tithes/offerings are for the poor and needy. It was never meant for the enrichment of pastors.

      2) They have their own businesses but the church offerings was their capital, and they still collect offerings and tithes.

3)If they indeed donate more to humanity (like they should) as much as they do to their private investments, Nigeria would be far better by now.

      4) Nigeria is the most religious nation (according to survery), but its citizens are some of the poorest. Most Nigerians are poor according to world standards. Yet fools like u and nich up there are still hoping for your private jets. Do u need private jets to be happy and content? Billonares commit suicide and live miserably so massive wealth is obviously not the ultimate key to happiness, yet most of these pastors push that agenda every time, giving people false hope and taking the little they have w/o helping. tueh!

  • Anikulakpo November 12, 2012 at 9:36 pm

I don’t know how you do it Bella,(maybe by selection) but I must commend the level of discourse on this tread.

  • OmoMakun November 12, 2012 at 10:19 pm

This kind of situation never sits well with me. A private jet??? When members of your congregation and community at large, are living in poverty. I see this as a major rip-off. Do they even realise how much it costs to maintain a private jet? And where exactly will the private jet be stored?? At the Warri Airport or his backyard????…Just saying….
@ Chattyzee: I now you’re a strong Christian and all but don’t just stand by when you know this isn’t right. What is the justification? Every church and church leader’s role is to impact their community in a postive way…selflessly too. Where you worship and what they represent really does matter. Don’t turn a blind eye…. If Jesus saw that what do you really think He would have to say???

  • Tope November 12, 2012 at 10:20 pm

I only have just a few questions: how come Nigeria wit all its “big-name pastors” still remains the highest in crime? the church is fast becoming the highest place of crime! u steal to bring to the church. u give all whole income to the church where they praise u & u go home to “drink garri”. so people should not fix their brazillian hair with their own money again? haba! also, God said, bring 10% of your income. have u ever noticed that “bigname pastors” are soooooo richer than the converts? in the bible, preachers were poorer! Now, what we hear is my God is not a poor God! Nigerians, be wise! shine your eyes! nowadays, pastors na correct pulpit robbers!

  • Truth Hurts! November 13, 2012 at 3:25 am

A good friend of mine once said that on that last day God will judge men of God like Bishop Oyedepo because they own private jets. A couple of weeks late, I learnt that he had an affair with a woman not his wife. Another female friend who at the time was also having a secret relationship with a friend also criticised Bishop Oyedepo.
My point: judge not and you will not be judged, condemn not and you will not be condemned, forgive and you will be forgiven…but if you have removed the plank in your own eye THEN go ahead and cast the first stone or keep on casting stones.
As for me, I have got my own salvation to work out with fear and trembling ahead of that dreadful day of the LORD. Sufficient Grace as we run this race.

    • Idak November 13, 2012 at 9:38 am

Gross abuse and misapplication of scripture.
So in your mind, your friends had ungodly affairs cos they were criticizing the Bishop for a supposed lavish lifestyle.
From you comment, i also deduce that the reason why you are scared of being judged too and falling into sin.
With all due respect, i find this view of yours unbalanced and rooted in fear.

  • Amaka November 13, 2012 at 9:38 am

Instead of the jet,wot if the man of God hs said….u know what, lets build a 200 1room self contain residental blocks for the youth?

  • alexcoco November 13, 2012 at 12:10 pm

The truth should be told at all times pls… Lets b realistic, why should a pastor ride on a private jet, while there are church members u can barely eat three square meals a day? Pastor T.B Joshua should be emulated by others, who only preach on church members giving and blind folding them with bible quotations and enriching their pockets for their personal selfish intrest at the detriment of church members…

  • Tunde November 14, 2012 at 4:52 am

Jesus said you CANNOT serve two masters, you either serve God or you serve Mammon. That is you are either desire God and his attributes of holiness, simplicity, modesty and humility or you desire Satan and his attributes of selfishness and wanting the whole world and it’s trappings.

  • Jesus Conscious November 14, 2012 at 1:46 pm

So much bitterness and anger in the threads….its amazing how we know so much of how tithes and offerings should be spent by the church….Wow!!!!!my fellow embittered Nigerians…Are you prepared to meet thine maker…Jesus is coming soon ooh!!!!!whether you are judging or been judge…whether you they pay tithe or not…The bottom line is this: Prepare thine self and make sure that when the trumpet sound you go dey heaven dey Laff…Rem :Your papa go stand, Your mama go stand…Oyedepo go stand..Me sef go stand..Each man go stand OYO on that day..it would be so painful if these so called pple enter heaven and you do not enter…so as we rant, make sure you yourself has accepted Jesus into your life and in your own corner doing the right things… What shocks me the most is how pple are quick to judge others who in their own opinion are committing big sins against humanity while in their little corner, they are lying, mistreating their housemaid, coming late to work and signing something else on the time sheet, claiming more expenses than necessary at their work place, using company time for personal business, sleeping with their best friends husbands/boyfriends or defrauding someone else of some little money…Whether big or small sin..All sinners would burn in the lake of Fire..Jesus is coming back soon…Let every man Prepare his own house and make sure your not wanting in any area.

….And the bible says not everyone who calls father, father, will enter the kingdom of God!

  • eden November 15, 2012 at 11:34 am

i have heard so many people talk about the poor in the society and how impoverished a nation we are for some pastors to own jets, but the question that barely comes to mind is if this money used for buying jets is given to the poor will it end poverty in this country? if you had made comments on this page via a blackberry, ipad, laptop and you feel it’s ok for you to own such and not a Nokia 3310 you are an hypocrite sell that your gadget and give to the poor. if you are above 18 and have never won a soul for christ in your entire life and you stand to criticise the wealth of pastors and that of a man that has given 40yrs of his life guyz you are in trouble cause soul winning is the essence of life, come to think of it what is in a private jet? i was taught that an airplane is used for transportation and not for merriment. some members donated towards the jet if he had not been a blessing, if poverty were to be the bane of his church then this air plane wont have been possible. or wud you reject a gift of service after serving for 40yrs? my broda 40yrs no be beans.

Heaven will be full of surprises I tell u ! Touch not my anointed is based on the premise that the pastor was TRULY anointed by God. Since we no be winsh and we can’t TRULY decipher who has been called, we are left with no option but to judge them by their fruits i.e dining with corrupt politicians and living extravagant lives! A note of caution for my “touch not my anointed” friends, the bible also says “many shall come in my name”

  • Dapunji November 16, 2012 at 6:23 pm

Stop comparing Americans to Nigerians,People buy PJ in the US for pleasure, and hobby. However any responsible Pastors buying a PJ in Nigeria doesnt care of what people will say.I am a Christian and I dont think it speaks well enough.Money will tempt the holiest human being, after all Pastors are Human.

  • Peju November 16, 2012 at 9:50 pm

I am so worried for Nigeria. Is either things are getting so hard in the country that our brains are no longer working, or is that we have gotten more stupid by the day. If you think you pastors owing jets, fancy cars and $3M dollar mansion temple is the will of God you need to get your head check. I am from Warri and i know what good that money would have done for the town. In a country were 80% live in abject poverty one person ordained himself “Man of God” and is flying Jet. hahahah. I weep for Nigeria.

  • fif January 1, 2013 at 11:19 pm

Why is Nigeria the way it is despite all this churches. Why do men of God have to earn so much and travel in style, kids in top private schools, cars drivers assigned to each child. What will Jesus do????? Half of the congregation are struggling to survive. What will Jesus do? This is just disgusting!!!!!

  • Kaye January 4, 2013 at 8:27 am

  • Kaye January 4, 2013 at 8:35 am

hmm… let’s not judge this man now… but instead ask ourselves, is this a good testimony to Jesus? I agree with @fif, What would Jesus do? On one hand, having a jet may help Pastor to glorify Jesus name by allowing him to be accessible to those who need to hear the Word of God. Yet on the other hand, is not the whole point of us following Jesus to live a humble lifestyle and show love through actions and behaviour, not material goods? How would one feel who already doubts the Church, would they view this Pastor in a different light, and in turn, view Christianity in a different way? Let’s just remember that Jesus entered this earth through the most lowly conditions in a dirty animal stable. Even though He knew his Father had given Him all the power, he humbled himself to a lower level. We are servants of Christ. Not servants of this world.
