Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde awarded the Ebony Vanguard Award at MVIsa Awards in UK - November 2013 - BellaNaija002

It’s Omosexy!

If you were disappointed that Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde wasn’t present at the Nollywood at 20 event on Saturday (click here to see), you will be glad to know she did have a recent stylish red carpet moment.

The Nollywood star was recently at the World Innovation Summit on Education (WISE) in Doha, Qatar, as an invited guest alongside former Australia Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

She and her team later arrived the UK for the 7th Birmingham International Film Festival M Visa Awards on Saturday 2nd November 2013 at the ICC Conference Centre.

She was presented with the Ebony Vanguard Award for her long standing achievements in acting, in the presence of British filmmakers including Ellen Thomas, Chizzy Akudolu, Rudolph Walker and Jimmy Akingbola.

Dean Alexander, founder of the festival and award praised the Nigerian actress. “Omotola is not only one of the most influential people in the world, she is indeed one of the Most inspiring, it is our pleasure to celebrate this unique personality here in the UK”, he said.

For the event, Omosexy stole the spotlight in a custom dress by Rooi Couture. The grey backless dress features black three-quarter leather sleeves, leather sweetheart neckline cut-out detail on the bodice and an alluring feather skirt.

She styled the dress with silver drop earrings, a gold cocktail ring and black pumps. She completed the look with a chic tousled up do, smokey eyes, devil red coloured lipstick and pink nail polish.

Check out more photos from the event.

    What is she wearing?

    • Mama November 5, 2013 at 8:30 pm

      A very hot mess!!!
This is the worst outfit Omotola has ever worn.
      Tasteless in every way!!

      • Bukky November 5, 2013 at 9:11 pm

If you saw what a hot mess is could you recognize it? After all you’re anonymous in your mama self. Lets feel powerful by writing big grammar…. Bella Naija will publish it.

In the spirit of halloween!!! Happy halloween Mrs Ekeinde!!! *hugs*

    dats the real africa magic

  • Anon November 5, 2013 at 3:31 pm

Isn’t that Eastenders Richard? I’m not feeling her dress. Leather (or PVC) and feathers; very dominatrix like.

  • Naveah November 5, 2013 at 3:34 pm

Love the hair and makeup. The dress is on the other hand is a big NO for me. The fit, the leather strap in the back, the feather bustle for a woman with a health back end, the strip of leather in the center that doesn’t fully encompass the boob highlighting the fact that she ain’t endowed much in the bosom area, the poor construction of the dress, the bows/appliques and whathaveyou on the leather straps. Omotola is a beautiful, statuesque woman and doesn’t need all the extra accoutrements on her dress. All that distracts from her. Simple!Simple!Simple! should be the mantra that her stylist rings into her ear. Omotola look at how other women with your height and built (even if not built) dress in Hollywood and emulate. If she’s not over accessorizing, she is over embellished.

The Fix – remove that leather strap in the back and show off your beautiful back, if you are gonna go there then go there! Remove all that feather creating a black bird bustle, remove the leather center piece, KEEP the leather sleeves and put on a major Estate Jewelry with an edge to give you a combination of elegance and Rock-n-roll. Glam the make up and the hair should have been more of a faux hawk. If you are going to go EDGY then take it there.

    • Autoprincess November 5, 2013 at 4:52 pm

For the first time Naveah, I love your comment. You did not just say you hate the dress, you pointed out the errors and also suggested how to fix it. I give you 100 likes, a comment cannot be more constructive!!

PS: I am a sucker for anything Omotola, even in her cringeworthy dresses!!! I just love her.

  • whocares November 5, 2013 at 3:41 pm

I LOVE the dress. I love the woman… I am biased, but that dress is creative and I like it; feathers, leathers and shiny material.

  • Doreen V. Weeks November 5, 2013 at 3:43 pm

Rosie Said……Times 100 most influential people in the world, who and who has she influenced?…… just asking?

    • Leah November 5, 2013 at 7:02 pm

I don’t know, Maybe young African women? To follow your dreams, work hard and use your talent gracefully. That you can still be successfull and famous without scandals, sleeping your way to the top, posting nude pictures of yourself or doing drugs. That you can have a great career and still maintain a home with your husband and raise your children. Or just for being Gorgeous, Talented, Positive Classy and Fabulous! That is just my take on it, but I’m sure if you give the folks over at Time 100 a call, they’ll tell you exactly why……. just saying?

      • Bukky November 5, 2013 at 7:17 pm

Hahahaha… Leah! Whoever you are you have just given me life! 1000000 likes for this comment. Nothing to add. #hatersaredumb

For thinking everyone will like the same thing as you
      actually makes you the idiot!

    • Iris November 5, 2013 at 6:37 pm

LOL but why did you comment first as rita and then as Adim? Your first comment revealed your own abbreviated brain capacity the first time. There was no need to say it again and confirm your “third world” idiocy for us. Loser.

      • GeeEmmy November 6, 2013 at 10:03 am

lol, I tire o, she’s the looser obviously, with mixed personality disorder. One cannot say the truth without being called a hater, I love Omosexy but there’s a lot wrong with this outfit plus she can do better, she’s Omosexxy for pete’s sake

  • bola November 5, 2013 at 4:03 pm

JESU , naveau , are so foolish. who are you exactly ,
wanabe stylist? some people make me laugh. Omotola looks gracefully
as always ,after the mishap with Iconic Invanity.

    • Naveah November 5, 2013 at 6:23 pm

You think she looks gracefully. I think she might lean towards a leather clad plucked chicken. Opinions are like noses, we all have one. There is a writer out there looking for all their missing commas and you are talking about I’m foolish? You spelt my name wrong and BN provided it correctly, and I’m foolish? I’m laughing much harder than you, sweetie. Come back at me when you’ve got something better. Eagles don’t perch with pigeons.

  • PRIMEPERSONA November 5, 2013 at 4:04 pm

Not sure i’m feeling the dress honestly. There’s just so much going on, leather, feather, frills. Congrats on the award! As an aside- What’s the criteria for the award nomination/ selection though?

  • Njideka November 5, 2013 at 5:48 pm

Hair 10/10(very very nice, elegant and neat)
Make up 8/10 ( away from some of the heavier stuff she’s had plastered on, simple and nice)
Front of dress 8/10(banging figure, she wore it well)
Back of dress 4/10 (hideous, the pleather like band covering the back of the bra makes it look cheap, the peacock tail, too much
OmoT overall is a 9/10. Just love her like mad! Keep soaring Mrs ekeinde that is bad ass

  • amaka November 5, 2013 at 5:55 pm

U like o or u hate o, she can wear what she likes and still be more popular, famous and richer than many of us here. So just admire instead of wasting energy hating. For ur very before this woman go soon chop ministerial position for this country, na who wan bet am with me

    • Mz Socially Awkward... November 5, 2013 at 10:11 pm

WOW! The ignorance of Nigerians in these very enlightened times continues to astound me. So, in your estimation, no criticism, no matter how constructive (& some people gave wholly constructive criticism), should be ventured to anyone who is “more popular, famous and richer than many of us here”?? In your mind now, she’s attained the untouchable status of deities for those reasons?

No wonder the average Nigerian sees no reason to challenge the criminal behaviour of their own elected leaders. This comment you’ve made bleeds through the very foundation of how we reason as a nation of mental slaves, living in the fear and shadow of anyone with affluence, while we subject our intellect to be overruled by wealth. What a country filled with sycophants ….

      • Bukky November 6, 2013 at 11:09 am

So save your long lecture and epistle for the politician’s thread and stories. It would be awesome if most of you spewed as much anger there instead of on people who are actually not stealing/criminals but doing us proud practically.

  • culturebedamned November 5, 2013 at 6:02 pm

Omotola you need to fire your stylist asap. Going by what I’ve been reading on BN about you I am assuming you can afford a decent stylist. That dress is not doing your lovely curves any justice, it makes you look like a stuffed sausage. Make sure your new stylist understands your size and body shape, keeping you away from fabrics and designs such as this one you are wearing. Your hair and makeup is getting better, did you fire your previous make up artist?

PS omotola’s voltrons remove your heads outta her arse and read objectively before labeling anyone ‘hater’

    • Bukky November 5, 2013 at 7:23 pm

We like our hand up her ass Abeg! That’s some fine ass to be privileged to hand! Chai…see discussion…lol…

  • Rex November 5, 2013 at 6:02 pm

Omotola ! Finally was wondering when I’d see something from you. Didn’t even know you were winning as Usual in Birmingham . Last we heard , you were in Doha! Well deserved. Our very own Angelina Jolie. Classy and Bold as usual. Omotola’s appearance is never boring. Love it or hate it,she makes bold statements and gives you something to discuss while still maintaining her core intelligence, decent manner of dressing and sexy curves! I love my Omotola nothing anyone can do about this!

  • NNENNE November 5, 2013 at 6:18 pm

In spite of the distractions, she still carried the dress well. Beautiful woman.

  • Nneks November 5, 2013 at 6:32 pm

Love and admire her but her fashion sense is something…

  • Easy Now November 5, 2013 at 7:09 pm

I love the dress so much. It is bold and quite unique. It is different. I could rock the dress. In short, I just love her makeup, hair, everything. And 4 d haters (am sure r women), OmoT isn’t u guys, so she can’t dress like you all wants. Free her, she’s got her own mind and style. So keep those advices for yourselves when u r shopping 4 a dress or when u r at ur tailors’ shops. BellaNaijarians go always see fault.

  • oyin November 5, 2013 at 7:13 pm

Omotola, always looking lovely. This woman can wear rag and her beauty will still stand out. I’m sure those face hiding fashion critics on blogs look hideous most times, and don’t look as good but their delusional minds lie to them.

  • Bukky November 5, 2013 at 7:15 pm

All these fake ass stylists on Naija blogs just need to shut it! Haba! What he hell! This woman looks gorgeous and omotola as usual worked the heck out f the dress. We just like to form itk in that country sha! Beyonce wears more dramatic clothes and has THESAME body shape as omotola ie to the met gala etc… People praise her for her body and personal style! Only in Naija do you see people trying to change/suggest a style to people. One even said loose 10… Crap! Like you would look half as hot next to her ven with your unmarried self! Pshewwww… Abeg scratching my weave and moving along, Omosexy you the Baddest there was,is and will be. #FACT

  • Linda November 5, 2013 at 7:17 pm

Na wa for some bad bele people. Most of you her with no fashion sense , that give advice, how far have you gone, what do u know abt fashion and global relevance. She is a celebrity and a such she is entitled to look beyond ur regular evening dresses. Hence get a life and think of how to better your lives. Omotola wore the dress to perfected tigon I love the leather ensemblement. It’s currently on trend , in the UK

  • Aminu November 5, 2013 at 7:36 pm

Omotola now this is a much more better look compared to the other Mmary amaka blue iconic in vanity dress you last wore. This is more form fitting and body blocked in the right places . Well done and keep doing naija proud. Keep up this new look safe and elegant

  • Charlize November 5, 2013 at 7:53 pm

Makeup – classic and lovely, hair – just right. Well done to the mua!

  • nonye November 5, 2013 at 8:34 pm

she’s a beautiful woman – that hasn’t changed but that dress doesn’t favour her, neither the blue/purple one

  • Tarila November 5, 2013 at 9:52 pm

I love Omo T’s minimalist approach to fashion. The dress does all the talking, absolutely no jewelry, I love! Her figure is smashing! Eat your heart out haterz!

  • Bunmi November 5, 2013 at 11:27 pm

WTF does this lady have on? Her makeup is nice but this dress was made by a person under the influence of weed. Too many pointless things happening on one dress. The dress and the actress in it remind me of a stuffed peacock.

So what award will Genevieve be honored with next week?
I have never seen anything in my life where entertainers are awarded for “long standing achievements” in their field when they havent done anything work related in many years. After so many years, this lady is still relevant and I applaud her for that. However, I think she is more relevant for chasing after and receiving awards, being in magazines, wearing funny dresses, and what not rather than having current movie projects. These awards and magazines are parts of the industry she is in but where is your current work? Don’t mention that tv show she appeared in with Akon as her son. I blinked twice and poof she was gone.
If we are speaking of people who should be awarded with awards for their “long standing achievements” in acting, I will say Rita Dominic, Ramsey Noah, Uche Jombo, Mercy Johnson, etc. These are people who have been in the industry for so many years and are consistently “still working” and not buying honors based on past glory.
    Nigerians!! Mediocrity lovers.

    • MyView November 6, 2013 at 2:09 am

Ties that bind, Private Storm, Amina, Ije, Last flight to
Abuja (don’t like that movie) are some of the movies she’s done in
the last three years. And you’ll be surprised to know that both
Rita and Omotola have done similar amount of movies in this period
of time. Rita Dominic, Uche Jombo and Ramsey Noah are true and
great talents and I agree do deserve awards and recognition and do
get them. Mercy Johnson on the other hand can roll around in mud
all she wants in Asaba, she can jump from bush to bush and shoot
ten thousand movies a day. She can expose as many body parts as she
wants on the screen and you guys can call her “the best” all you
want till the cows come home, she does not have the same amount of
      talent. Sorry.

      • Bunmi November 8, 2013 at 3:51 pm

You’ve proven me right! You are listing her most current work from three years ago. I don’t care for Mercy’s acting but she is still working & is one of the highest paid actresses. I am speaking of top actors who are still working in their field & not receiving awards based on past glory.

  • NONY November 5, 2013 at 11:32 pm

Hey babes, I did not say the dress is minimalist please
re-read. Take it easy though, you are so green with envy

How about start by fixing your caps lock and stop yelling
like an omo alata. Basic internet writing courtesy.

  • Chioma November 6, 2013 at 1:45 am

Omotola is a beautiful woman that has upgraded herself to an international level than all this our local actors. They too can upgrade themselves but instead chose to be posing with fake copy 20 Dubai shoes and bags always faking their lives

  • wiklo November 6, 2013 at 3:41 am

We hate some persons because we do not know them; and we
will not know them because we hate them……… Hate is too great
a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the
hated…….. Hate is all a lie; there is no truth in

  • milner November 6, 2013 at 3:45 am

Omotlola never impress me. Omosexy? How? On set or where? Just an opportunist like her fellow Genevieve

  • Geebabe November 6, 2013 at 6:44 am

The dress is a noo noooooooo – this is something Lady Gaga would wear for a performance or show.
She is a pretty, talented lady no doubt, but this time around…mehn! she got the dress wrong. Halloween night was on Thursday 31 Oct and not 02 Nov
