A woman with a heart of gold, Marguerite Barankitse is an inspiration to African women across the globe. Maggy, as she is fondly called, started her project, Maison Shalom after the civil war in Burundi. She was spurred on by the love she had in her heart. Unable to understand the difference between Hutus and Tutsis, she adopted children from both tribes and loved them as one.

During the war, she tried to seek refuge but both sides rejected her because she had children from the other. She remained undeterred and was relentless in her course. Maison Shalom which means home of peace has brought succor to thousands of orphans in Burundi. She turned around spaces that bore evidence of the deaths from the war and provided a place for people to find hope.

She tells her story on CNN‘s African Voices and we are truly inspired to be more and to do more.

This video brought tears to our eyes. When will we realize that we are one and we do more damage to each other by emphasizing on the ethnic and religious divisions?  and ethnic differentiation is going to be the end of us as African?

Watch and be inspired!
