CNN Highlights Nigeria’s Hip-Hop Industry

This video below has been floating around the blogosphere this week. CNN recently did a report on Nigeria’s hip hop industry noting that the industry is making more money in Africa than in America. The video features P-Square who is noted to have sold over 3 million records the first month their newest album came out! To put that into context, Kanye West’s 808’s & Heartbreak album has only sold 1.5 million copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. Apparently, Nigerian artists can make over $80,000 in a show in Nigeria yet American promoters sometimes offer them only $10,000 to do a show in the U.S. No wonder we don’t see a lot of Nigerian musicians in concerts in the U.S. However, if our  artists want to truly go international, they should still consider touring worldwide.
