BN Red Carpet Fab: Elite Model Look Nigeria 2010 Finale
The Elite Model Look Nigeria 2010 Finale was not only fabulous onstage but offstage too.
Yes, we are talking about the black carpet.
We spotted an array of looks as we have come to expect from our Lagos fashionistas and fashionistos. Some recent events had fallen into the ‘black trap’ but this one was different. With guests pushing the colour and style envelope a little bit more.
Without further ado, check out BN Red Carpet Fab – The Elite Model Look Nigeria 2010 Finale Edition
The Belle of the Ball – Elohor Aisien
We’ll start with the organizer of the event, Elohor Aisien. Everyone who attended commended the quality and ‘fun factor’ of the event so lots of kudos to Elohor! On the black carpet, Elohor looked lovely in her short black billowy long-sleeved shift dress. She paired the dress with popping red kitten heeled pumps and a Kristos necklace. She kept her hair and makeup simple and let her yummy-mummy-to-be glow shine through. Owen Aisien complemented his wife in a open white shirt paired with jeans.
Hostess with the Mostest – Georgina ‘Eku’ Edewor
Studio 53 Extra’s Eku Edewor hosted the EMLN 2010 Finale and for that she got to rock two beautiful looks by Jewel by Lisa.
She kicked things off in a red embellished ankara dress with a waistband paired with nude heels, upswept hair and chandelier earrings. Her second look was a graphic print dress with a beaded and embellished neckline paired with black sandals and a chunky gold bracelet. For this look, she let her locks cascade down and the final touch was red lippie. Love both looks.
**
Designer Divas
We get so excited when we see our favourite stylistas wearing pieces from African designers. There was definitely lots of that on the EMLN 2010 finale black carpet. We are totally feeling Hauwa Mukan in her Ituen Basi ensemble, Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi in a dress from the LDA for Vlisco collection (we are also swooning at her tortoise sandals) and the duo of Adaure Achumba and Bridget Awosika in blue modern-inspired pieces from Bridget’s soon to be premiered new collection took our breath away.
Body Con
Body Con dresses are for confident and vibrant women and we spotted quite a few on the EMLN 2010 Finale Black Carpet. These ladies showed that you don’t have to be on the runway to show off your rockin’ bod. We are loving Ono Bello in her black Herve Leger Bandage Dress paired with Christian Louboutin Annees Folles 140 pumps. We are really feeling how some guests experimented with bright colours and accessories as well. All the ladies look fab.
Earth Tones
The earth toned palette continues to enjoy a strong showing on red carpets and on runways all over the world. Even at the ongoing New York Fashion Week, many of the spring/summer 2011-12 collections feature lots of nude shades and white.
On the Elite Nigeria black carpet, we spotted the full spectrum of earth tones. From brown to tan to white, many of the ladies made these colours work for them. There was so much to love – From Lisa Folawiyo‘s bedazzled tank and layered lace and ankara skirt, Uchenna Ezenna in an iridescent dress with her Bridget Bardot-esque hair and Nana Kay in a chic modern dress.
Purple
Purple really stood out at the Elite event with guests rocking this royal colour to good effect. Some guests including Izie Igodan went for a touch of purple while others such as Veronica Ebie-Odeka and Yvonne Nwosu rocked it all the way.
Tailored
Oh the joy of tailoring, there is a certain style magic that appears when we see the clean lines of a suit, jacket or blazer. Omoyemi Akerele looked so stylish in her textured jacket paired with cigarette pants, black pumps and a python clutch. Fauzi Fahm looks suave in his double breasted jacket and Dimeji Alara makes it work in a metallic grey blazer paired with all black everything.
Accessorize
Accessories can totally define an outfit and some guests made such great use of accessories to create their party perfect looks. Blogger, FAB Junior Fashion Editor and BN Contributor Terence Sambo‘s accessories totally defined his look. The cap, the shoes and the murse – love it!
Gbemi Phillips added a retro touch with a multitude of cascading pearls, Sola Laditi‘s waist clinching belt made a statement and Lola Omotayo shut it down by rocking the shoes of the season – Christian Louboutin Clou Noeud 150 studded slingbacks. These peep-toe pumps with silver-tone stud embellishment and a leather bow are uber hot!
Black & White
The classic monochrome palette is classic and the works! Jasmine Murray-Bruce looks cute as a button in her black and white dress and we love Ademide Adefarasin‘s simple and chic style.
Denim
Denim – Always versatile and a trusted red carpet staple.
Couples
We spotted some cute couples in laid back black carpet looks.
African
We were glad to see some guests “repping” the continent in these Africa-inspired looks.
Standout Style
This might just be our favourite section! Sometimes the red carpets in Nigeria are so predictable – LBDs, Maxi Dresses, Jeans and Cocktail dresses.
We love how these guests expressed their individual style. Love!
Clean Slate – Grey to Black
As expected, there were lots of black looks on the EMLN 2010 finale black carpet. We love how the guests interjected grey and metallic tones alongside the blocks of black.
Sorbet
COLOUR! We love colour on BN, especially sweet sorbet shades such as these – Ene Maya Lawani in an ombre orange and blue dress by Tiffany Amber, Latasha Ngwube in vibrant turquoise (love the short hair and statement earrings too!), Ifeoma Williams in coral paired with nude shoes, Mobowale Biobaku in red and Moyo Fatade in golden yellow.

Woner why y’all are drinking panadol for someone else’s headache o! I’m definitely entitled to my opinion. Besides who said there was anything wrong with cellulite, just cover your legs. Short dresses are not meant for everyone. Something tells me you all have cellulite which is ok….. Just cover your legs shikena. Double sigh.

Ok ladies, some of you look nice and some errrrm (can’t think of a PC word right now) wack. Having said that, please retire the Chanel adn Birkin bags. It’s enough already? Geez…in fact, i no care if na Vintage or limited edition or Timeless piece…or straight from Italy…just put that mess away for now. It’s embarassing. I know it hurts especially if you know its real…but Chanel/Hermes bags have got to be the tackiest accessory these days.

Lemme remind you that HERMES .. the ORIGINAL HERMES isn’t in circulation almost at all. In fact, you’d be considered as ‘being privileged’, if you could afford an ORIGINAL $8,100 Jypsiere HERMES shoulder bag, or the $3,525 Marwari handbag.

I don’t know any of the so called celebrity/society folks who organise and attend these events but I’m interested in attending some of them too 🙂 , especially as Ive just come back to the country after almost five years of living outside, my lack of social life is causing me serious boredom. it looks like so much fun dressing up and being on the red, black etc carpets :). @ Onthesubject: lol Thanks o jare. Short dresses are truly not for everyone. If you have thick thighs and messed up legs pls stifle the urge to show the world. A lot of them looked great. Love Lola Omotayo’s shoes and Uchenna Ezenna’s look and the chic rocking the Tiffany Amber drapey dress. TA is fast becoming one of my fav Naija designers…she’s a true designer not all these cut and join, patch patch ‘designers’.

AH nice oneeeee!! Can’t even lie here o, most people tried here sha. I guess they knew where they were coming and also the bellanaija commentators! LOL! But I have to give it to the ones that stood out the most sha as I was also at this event. Of course Elohor, she looked gorge with her yummy mummy self :). Eku Edewor always fab, Bridget Awosika as bella said she blew me away too in that dress. By far more gorgeous in person than this photo. Adaure looked nice too but as most said here i’m not very sure she pulled it off very well but its one of her best looks yet compare to some other stuffs I have seen her in. Lola omotayo’s shoooooeeeesss (i die), Yvonee vixen, Ono Bello, kene Rapu and Ezine chinkata – HOT! Zara okpara toooo cute in those shorts!

These are my nights stunners
1. Georgina Edewor (in the sleeveless 1950s-ish dress)
2. Huawa Mukan (she owned that look)
3. Dami Ogunmola
4. Jemila Shaba
5. Omoyemi Akenele
6. Gbemi Phillips
7. Jamine Murray-Bruce
8. Terence Sambo (for his quirkiness and individualistic style)
I have to agree with onthesubject + olivia and cement the fact that short dresses are just not for everyone. Some of the ladies are simply not toned enough to successfully pull these looks off. Some are too mature for the shorter dress styles and the truth is a chic lady knows what is both age and event-appropriate. Some of my sisters need to invest in body-shaping garments and good quality and supportive undergarments which are the foundation of a fashionista or stylista’s wardrobe. I salute my Naija sisters for the luxury brands they flaunt but true style is the problem. No Hermes, Chanel, Louboutin, Miu Miu or Lanvin can save a woman who does have true style and own her look. It needs to look effortlessly chic.

Freda Francis shows that even bigger people can rock short dresses..one just has to have good legs to show off. Most people look fabulous at this event sha particularly Bridget and Hauwa, even though Bridget really no try for that Adaure dress! Was it sabotage?
Now onto the whole man purse debate; me thinks these designers are just looking for new things to sell. Eventually men will start having “it bags” too.SMH. Even in London these days they sell panty hose and makeup for men at Selfridges, can you imagine? Women are already neurotic about these things, do men really need that too? Well I personally don’t see anything particularly interesting about Sambo’s style or the other “manbag” carrier for that matter. Those styles have been rocked to death on the streets of London! Move on people.

Sigh. We’re never gonna get it are we? People, no matter how common Louis, Chanel, and Hermes bags are, nothing changes that they are stylish. I mean the ones that actually look good of course. They are luxury brands; exceptions to any of your simple minded rules. Plus, “man-bags” and “man-purses” are no crime at all…I mean, what’s the difference between them and briefcases? The fact that briefcases are boxy and difficult to match with anything? Some of yall need to just sit. And it’s very ridiculous when you come and take personal shots at people. This is a post about fashion and yall turn it into a bitch fight. “Cellulite”? “Terrence look at me”? “Man child”? Pretty creative…but shows your inner ugliness.
But anyway, props to most of the people up there. That sorbet orange/green is like whoaaa to my eyes. Love it!

Manbags may be okay but what were the men in the pictures carrying in them? Some women even attended the event without a purse in sight, and women need to carry makeup. I think a man should look stylish without looking like he’s trying too hard, carrying a bag on a night out is definitely pointless, unless you have to carry a compact and change of underwear of course.

Nice looking people, but pls bella tell dese people some home truths….who d hell put that sambo’s pic in here n worse describing his ‘accesories’ as defining the look…..if a guy intending to chase u showed up looking half-mad like dis will u give him a second look????? the reason women carry purses is cos we got stuff to carry around all d time- make-up, tissues, hankies, fones, mirrors, notes, stationery and all dose other stuff….i can imagine wat he has to carry in that ‘murse’…..pls pls pls…there’s a very thin line btw weird-but-nice tastes in fashion n stupidity…draw urs somewhere…..

Stupidity? Really? Does that seem fair to you? I mean, don’t men use handkerchiefs as well? Couldn’t any of them have had their phones in there? Business cards maybe seeing as they both work in fashion? Plus, it really isn’t about functionality. Those cases are accessories. But anyway, it says a lot about you when u ask how ppl would react if he came to “chase” them. Your main aim when dressing is to impress the potential “chasers” isn’t it? That’s sad….you poor simple minded soul. And no, I’m not any of the people up there; before yall say so seeing as u can’t comprehend someone supporting something without any direct bearing around it…like the noise on that Y magazine post saying I had to be from red strat. Smh.

Well I agree with Kay on this one, a man should carry a bag by all means. However with men, the fashion should have some function otherwise you end up looking like a fashion victim. Cards and cash can be carried in a wallet and kerchiefs in the front pocket of the jacket.
I’m sure you’ve seen hollywood red carpets; do you see any man there carrying a purse? And they are probably the most liberal people out there, it just isn’t a good evening look my dear.

This blog is not about fairness, silly… if u want fairness go to the courts or someplace else…..It’s about opinions n I’ve made mine…I don’t know what planet u’re from but every animal tries to look good, not only to feel good personally, but also to show off to either their peers or the opposite sex….its called nature! U think all these people on the carpet cared bout just their own opinions/feelings when they were getting dressed…u naive soul! The outfit looked real silly n I still maintain it; BTW r u sambo’s assistant or sumthin…who ordained u voltron…..*mschewwwwwwwwwww*!!!! pls take ur Shallow talk elsewhere. 🙂

Lmao…you poor, lost soul. Dressing to impress and dressing to attract are two very different things. You’re one of those women who need the talk on how you don’t need a man to complete you. But anyway, who cares about being fair? I mean I was only trying to let you know you were exposing the ugliness inside of you. Plus honestly I’m not trying to change your opinion on anything.
There is one thing though, if you assume I’m his “assistant” I.e I must know him personally before defending him then it also stands to reason you’re attacking him because you know him personally as well and just don’t like him in which case all ur points would be mute 🙂
But by all means, sit, calm yourself. The world loves you 🙂

eku edewor, makashe ibru and osyi etomi were the only “chic” and fashionable women in these pics/ everyone else looks like they shopped at topshop… and wacked on a pair of heels and FAKE designer handbag. YUK

And soooo what if they shopped at topshop?! Is that a problem?!
I’m proud to say that I shop at topshop and even primark in some instances…real shocker!
I refuse to be STUPID and spend $2500 on one freakin chanel bag or $800 dollar on Louboutoins or whatevr they’re called when there is sooo much suffering going on in the world especially in this wacked up society
Can we please get our priorities together as a people *clap*clap*
There is absolutely NO issue in rocking non designer clothes, shoes and dare I say fake bags if you’re rockin it correct– NOW that is wht i call STYLE!
Anyone like urself can buy a shitload of designer xyz and still look like shit…the end.
ummmm
