2012 Arise Magazine Fashion Week: CLAN

Let’s start by letting you know that CLAN got a standing ovation!
The new collection by CLAN presented on Saturday night at the 2012 Arise Magazine Fashion Week was sleek and sophisticated.
If their debut collection was for the teens, this one was for the sexy twentysomethings which is interesting considering that the designers – Teni, Aba and Tiwa Sagoe were the youngest designers to present a collection at AMFW Lagos.

The bold shoulder and peplum played a starring role in this collection and our favorite piece was the red peplum dress with the plunging neckline. Divine!

      how do u ppl know?
I know teni & aba personally and they have magnificent taste. those girls have been dressed in designers all their lives(their mum especially),attended fashion shows around, been around similar style, had the chance to design outfits for themselves since pry sch, what makes you think they can’t come up with this?
if you want to say their mum helped, she probably told them which ones to release

Its a nice collection but nothing groundbreaking to warrant a standing ovation. Most of these looks I ve seen at the international shows and in music videos

This is just Deola Sagoe camoflaging as CLAN. The styles are nice but a bit too mature for the age of Teni, Aba and Tiwa. I reckon they should have been more laidback than so structured. But no doubt, its a nice collection.

These are gorgeous and I would wear them. Now, about distribution and pricing? If only there was a H&M or Forever 21 type clothing chain in Naija that catered to young women with moderate pricing.

Hey Turayo. There’s a line that might interest you, with gorgeous clothes and not too pricey. It’s called GZK. You can visit them on….. Enjoy!

    March 11, 2012 at 8:03 pm

Nice! Tho I agree with miss peppeye! Aunty Deola we no gree joo! Clean smooth line and architectural details is ur signature and its all over these pieces! Much too mature for teens if Ɣ☺U̶̲̥̅̊ ask me

  22. konnie

    March 11, 2012 at 8:17 pm

Nice. So where do you buy these?

  23. Demmy

    March 11, 2012 at 8:23 pm

It’s really nice and all y’all OLD women saying that this collection is too mature for them and that Deola is behind it need to see the light. Young people are capable of greater things than lots of you adults can’t do. So what if Deola helped with the line? They are her children aren’t they? She has experience so what’s wrong with helping them with their designs? I love this collection. It’s so cute!

  24. Demmy

    March 11, 2012 at 8:23 pm

    *can do

  25. Nkem

    March 11, 2012 at 8:29 pm

This is absolutely stunning!for all you haters, I am actually 100% sure that these designs are all from Deola’s daughters and not her! I interviewed one of them and she showed me her amazing sketches and explained how they were responsible for everything! From the buying of the fabrics and design of the garments, right down to the accessorising!GO GIRLS!keep it up!

  26. Jessi

    March 11, 2012 at 8:38 pm

Actualllttyyyyy noooo I know those girls they are very stylish they may have gotten some inspiration from their mum but you can tell these kids are the ones that designed these pieces because its younger and what kids their age want ….to be honest all their collections I have seen so far have better passed their mums according to what the audience want

  27. Dee-USA

    March 11, 2012 at 8:40 pm

I was thinking the same thing. I have no way of knowing if she was behind it so I won’t take away credit from the three girls. The first collection I saw from them were bathing suits, half tops and shorts, so if this was really them, way to send a statement. I love the bold shoulders. In fact, I loved everything.

  28. Joy

    March 11, 2012 at 8:46 pm

You know it is actually possible to be young and design something nice! I know these girls and the only thing their mother gave them was an opportunity to define their style through exposure in the high fashion world, and her tailors! They designed these clothes all by them selves and
their moms tailors did the sewing! Awesome clothes girls! I knew the clothes will be great, they are definately getting a feature on my blog! Complete class 😀

  30. mma

    March 11, 2012 at 8:55 pm

genetically you can pass on creativity and talent please stop hateing peeps i would not have expected anything less from them having been exposed to good tailoring and fahion from their grandmother too their mother so its naturall that you will see some resemblance to their mums work monkey no go born gorilla even thou they are thesame species kapish

  31. birdieblue

    March 11, 2012 at 8:57 pm

Please ooo I’m not hating! But I wonder if chika’s healthy look gets her international jobs in the west… She’s much thinner than I but if we look at magazines like vogue harpers and the rest the models are thinner. I do hope she does get international bookings though.

The dresses looks gossip girl inspired. I love it still

  36. Hosea

    March 11, 2012 at 10:15 pm

I like some of the pieces. Some of the fabrics look too stiff for the draped dresses. That stiff/ hard fabric works the best on the dress Eku is wearing.

Even without being familiar with the designers, you can tell the creative mind(s) of this collection is/are young, playful, and still maturing. They have so much potential and so they will get better. Give them some time.
I prefer their two collections to the entire collections created by a certain female designer (Bella Naija promotes the hell out of this designer) I will not mention. I believe this person loves fashion but needs to have a vision or go to school for fashion.

I hoped to see some African prints. Really nice collection but a lot of these styles have already been done by Alberta Ferretti, and Louis Vuitton collections in the past. Nice collection regardless.

As extremely picky as i am – i must say this by far is my favourite. And by the way who is the model in the 3rd pic. She is the most beautiful and perculiar looking model i have ever seen, She is absolutely stunning. I hope she breaks into the international scene. She looks like she is from southern part of Africa. Does anyone know her name. I will like to research her. And unlke the many models, she actually WEARS the clothes, the clothes are not wearing her. I love this chick. FIERCE!!!!

  53. Esosa

    March 12, 2012 at 1:24 pm

I agree withj Eggy*posh Oluchi looked like she had a baby bump hiding somewhere under the outfit.OG on the other hand was something else, professional, chic and on point. The best Part of this show was at the end it looked like a baptism/stamp of approval from Deola to her daughter, she led her on stage to a point then let her hand go almost saying non-verbally to her “my daughter i have led you to this point now is your turn to fly” Kudos to Deola and Clan. I loved the collection, apart from the little mis-hap on the runway when a sleeve fell and a pink nipple popped out. Overall it was beautiful.

My goodness, this Chika Emmanuel Is Fierce. Where have i been – how come i never heard of her. is she locked in a contract with that modeling agency, Mehn am telling if this girl breaks into the international scene – She will surpass all her predecessors. I dont know if you guys see what i see but she has the most unique looks – she looks like a boy but at the same time she is exceptionally so beautiful, she makes me wanna go cut my hair too (but i dont have the headshape to rock it like she does).’

I am looking at all these AMFW photos and all am doing is staring at her, I just learnt she is 19 yrs old – Whao. That Beth modelling agency will make a lot of money out of her and i hope she gets her fair share.

She is FIERCE (thats the only word that comes to mind) – she reminds me of another model of peurto rican descent who was in one of Jay Z videos from way back, i forgot her name but she looked like a boy , but at the same time she was a pretty girl (very confusing in an intriquing kinda way). Her hair was short too. Gosh i forgot her name – I am imagining her and Chika on the run way.

    Chika – you are blessed

    • Turayo

      March 13, 2012 at 4:57 am

      She is!!!

    • Bianca

      March 18, 2012 at 12:40 am

Yes, Chika is FIERCE. The puerto rican model you are talking about was in Jay Z’s “Change Clothes”, I think but remember seeing the video and saying is that a girl or boy, nonetheless that’s a beautiful human being. That’s the same way I feel about this Chika girl.

It will be stupid to think that they wont be inspired by the edge their mum brings. When i was going thru the pics i was like “Wow, this is really well tailored” The only thing i have to add is that its all JLO inspired but still love them. + Bella i think its wrong to have included their mums name i this. She clearly tried to stay away
