Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon - January 2014 - Ebony Magazine - BellaNaija

Ain’t no love like black love.

It is all about celebrating black love for Ebony Magazine. For its February 2014 issue, the publication gets two of the most powerful couples in America to grace its cover.

They are music superstar Mariah Carey and actor/TV personality Nick Cannon as well as basketball star Carmelo Anthony and actress/TV personality Lala Anthony.

Nick on Mariah: “It was early on when I found out how spiritual she was, and we had conversations about kids and how to live life. For her to share these values, it instantly let me know this is the person I’ve always wanted.”

Mariah on Nick: “Having babies definitely strengthened our bond because all the love that you have for each other is manifested into these two incredible beings.”

Lala & Carmelo Anthony - January 2014 - Ebony Magazine - BellaNaija

Carmelo on Lala: “There were people coming in and out of my life, and I didn’t really know whom to trust. She was one of the people who stood by my side through thick and thick. Even to this day, she’s always right there.”

Lala on Carmelo: “…We knew no matter what, we wanted each other. We needed [to be] in each other’s life, and that’s what’s been able to sustain this relationship all those years.”.

Aww…love is truly sweet!

Woow I just finished listening to this song ‘whenever you call’ by Mariah Carey feat Brian McKnight( if you haven’t listened to that song and you are here, you are on long thing) and the feeling was just magical and on logging onto Bella naija I was welcomed with the news of her and her gorgeous husband. #Isn’t that beautiful ?!?!? !?!?

Akpeno say it again!!! Black love?? Love is love simple. We
Africans have started defining ourselves with color and its scary.
Our tribal/ethnic identities is our true identity. Enough of Black
this, Black that. “Black” was born out of U.S slavery and she
should remain in the bossom of the nation that gave birth to
her-America. We are more than our skin. BN some of us reject this
      “Black” label.

I totally understood what you meant and I am not saying you are right. Lala and Carmelo are not African Americans, you will never see an African American on the cover of Latina magazine so why do they have the two Puerto Ricans on the cover of a magazine that is for all intents and purposes for celebrating African Americans. They don’t even put black Latinas on the cover only the white looking ones like J-Lo, Sophia Vergara etc. And as for Ms. Mariah Carey, she only came out as black after she left Tommy Motola and wanted to take her career into the hip hip/R & B direction with Puffy at the helm. All before that, she never claimed being black, she was white and Venezuelan.

@ Everyone – Akpeno is saying if this is supposed to be about “Black Love” then put some folks that are in great relationships and that are black on the cover too! Will l& Jada, Denzel & Pauletta, Angela & Courtney. We see enough of black men booed up with near white women on their arms, folks want to see chocolate love sometimes.

This is what I understand Akpeno to mean by his/her statement, I am not saying I cosign.

what has me stumped is why they had Nick and Maria pose in a pool. Was that supposed to represent something? A Freudian slip for sinking love or what?

i really don’t like all these BLACK THIS, BLACK THAT. black people are too proud. yes we know we went thru alot in the past, but please lets be one and leave the colour of our skin behind. just imagine BET having a show BLACK GIRLS CAN ROCK, if MTV had a show called WHITE GIRLS CAN ROCK we will say that’s not fair.
