Genevieve Magazine Style Day Out - January 2014 - BellaNaija - 023

Omowunmi Akinnifesi

On Sunday 19th January 2014, Genevieve Magazine in collaboration with Veuve Clicquot held its anticipated “Fashion & Style Day Out” during the 2014 President’s Cup at the Lagos Polo Club, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The event saw guests in dazzling ensembles. Ladies were resplendent in their gorgeous hats and fascinators as well as perfectly tailored luxurious dresses with simple silhouettes.

Some men were suave in colourful blazers and pants while others opted for polo shirts which of course fits the bill for the occasion.

They all sipped on refreshing glasses of champagne from the premium brand to served as a sponsor.

BellaNaija.com will bring you all the exclusive photos and winners from the event, but check out these first shots.

Oh please! The woman is ageing and is having a tough time keeping the pounds off. Stop using style to shade Toke and Eku. They are the most relevant socialites right now and if you can’t deal with it, please have several seats. Thanks.

Stunning pictures. My favourite looks are Monalisa Chinda (very chic and cute) and Nkiru Anumudu (refreshingly different as always).
Latasha Ngwube looks good as usual, love her.
If these are the first photos I can’t wait to see the rest.

It feels like watching a comedy skit…. half d bunch look uncomfortable in their hats… I’d pay good money for Madam Betty’s hat though -suspecting J.3v3 for that piece…

Eko for show! How much do I love Lagos? Glam glam and more glam! Move over NYC, Ascot. But some hair pieces though…not impressed by Ene Maya’s, she makes prettier hair pieces.

I have a feeling that the inspiration for BN’s caption of “…Glamour Overload” is specifically drawn from Nkiru’s hat. I love that woman… but its sad that I am not feeling this. I still love you sha.

Nkiru Anumudu it is any day anytime…she gets better with each passing day and gives all these young girls some serious homework to do when it comes to fashion. Who else noticed the Omowunmi’s weight?

Lol Stephanie Coker and Dolapo Oni are my favs.
I know this is suppose to be some extravagant hat event but our father in heaven. Like people super glued bird feathers and fish net together and walked outside saying they have a hat on. Better to not wear than come looking like that. 🙁

Give it to Ono and Gbemi…. Thats how to dress for a race.
Nigerian women need to learn how to dress for such event. There are rules on the type of dresses and hats that should be worn. We need to learn some more.

oyibos (the originators) will just sit back and laugh and say “look at these nigerian african clowns” always striving to be like us. #Pretenders and #Fake to the core.

Be original – be African. and stop copying the british and american for everything.

    • odine

      January 22, 2014 at 7:18 pm

Bloody get a life!!!! The Europeans bloody invented the sport and the whole fashion behind it, so please can we be more British than the Britons? Somewhere inside of that hating and calling people fakers, your sorry self is hoping and wishing you were there! If you can’t appreciate effort, please park well! Making it a profession to leave a comment and always negative ones. #Trowls #Trolls

Abeg go and sit down somewhere…. all ye ‘afrocentric, be more ‘african’ people get on my last nerves. Shebi you typed this in English, is English an African language?

    January 22, 2014 at 11:00 pm

As expected, Nkiru Anumudu and Ene Lawani gave us FASHION. Betty and Dolapo Oni were perfection. A few other were cool. The rest were a mess.

  53. moimeme

    January 23, 2014 at 7:17 pm

Nkiru made my day!!!. Just as I was looking for her she just materialized. Very courageous with fashion tins that woman.
But………….. I’d have to agree with Sharon sha. All these copy-copy white people don dey tire person. Wetin be dis hat business again. Abeg we need a cue from the Indians who continue the tiwa n tiwa (our own na our own) dressing et al.

    • Demmy

      January 31, 2014 at 8:33 pm

I agree that Nigerians tend to copy sometimes but not in this case. This has always been the way to dress to Polo events all around the world and I guess they’re just copying the norm.

    • aseye

      February 24, 2014 at 4:38 pm

this has always been the way……….. says who? we should be able to introduce our own way of dressing to our own polo games. after all we wont need the hats to play the polo….so is it a must to wear them while sitting around and watching. we should be able to wear our slit, kaba, ase oke, kente, buba etc damnit!!!!!

  54. Demmy

    January 31, 2014 at 8:29 pm

I love Stephanie Coker’s hat. She looks beautiful. xx
