“Bridget Bishop is King” – Weiz Dhurm Franklyn’s Unconventional Collection Lookbook

Weiz Dhurm Franklyn Bridget Bishop is King Lookbook - BellaNaija - August2014072

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the Autumn/Winter 2014/15 collection from Nigerian designer Wisdom Franklyn of Weiz Dhurm Franklyn titled “Bridget Bishop is King“.

Now, if you know Weiz Dhurm, there is nothing conventional about his designs. See other collections here.

For this collection, he explores the intrigued story of Bridget Bishop who was accused of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials in 1692. He dives into her sense of fashion, living and lifestyle and how it differed from the puritans and the women in the society causing the uproar of the accusation.

He portrays Bridget as a dominant, provocative, powerful and outspoken figure in a time where she had the heart of a man in the body of a woman, making her King.

The collection is filled with black as a re-occurring colour, strong silhouettes, feminine and provocative cut-outs, embellishments, voluminous gowns, velvet and silk betraying the lust for cheap values while combining it with rich textures.

See the collection below;

This does not look original at all, I have seen something like this froM prada and zuhair 2013 couture collection, nigerians pls stop copying, I cant even see who the designer is thru the collection cause it doesn’t look original.

Bruno, I am glad you noticed too. However, the comments were moderated long after readers posted them, so it looks as if nobody is responding to your and my observation. This is not a country where copying is encouraged in fashion (I have seen many fashion weeks; the designs are original). The average observer may not know or remember these clothes, many of which are imitated here, but we should not cheer Wisdom Franklyn on. This is not fashion “design”; it is blatant copying.

I can see the work of up to 4 designers that Wisdom Franklyn just ripped.
    1. Valentino
    2. Maki Oh
    3. Dolce & Gabbana
    4. Givenchy (eg the dress Beyonce wore to the Met Gala, copied here).

The lookbook was a commendable effort but as I went from image to image, the copy-copy was too obvious for me to say nothing. Really, compare this mannequinmagazine.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Maki21.jpg to at least 2 of the dresses presented here by ‘Wisdom’.

Please, if you are presenting a collection that is not original, say ‘inspired by___ {designer name} so we know to focus on other things like the photography or tyling.

Anything else is plagiarism and shouldn’t be encouraged, whether from local designers or international ones.

  3. ♥ ♥ ♥ this collection!

A visually striking collection. Some of these are lovely. Kudos to Weiz for ceativity. But there’s room for improvement in the finishing and fitting of several of the garments.

This is interesting, I’m always fascinated by his whimsical ideas which is lacking in Nigerian fashion generally atm but I end up disappointed by his execution and finishing, either way well done bro! Love the couture vibes and that black evening lace/tulle number with the mono black sleeve is everything.

Seun Peters looking like a million dollar sth. Pretty model… Hmmm there’s nothing new in fashion anyway, so the person you feel the designer copied actually copied some else.

Most of these clothes are really cool…whimsical…wonderful. The models are lovely, great, strong legs, I like. In the presentation, some of the clothes are crinkling at the seams, so better care next time.

Good designs but finishing is bad to be tagged high end. Some are illlfitting. Theres room for improvement. Nija designers r paste and copy. Better luck next time. But kudos you tried

Honestly you guys, it’s not a matter of copying. There’s nothing new in fashion and this is high fashion; laid down by the people you believe to have been copied. They should be seen as inspirations and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. I think the collection is fantastic.

The collection is poorly executed and looks real cheap and badly tailored.

  21. very trashy and cheap. Some of the clothes were nice, bad photography too. mytestimonys.blogspot.com/2014/08/rev-felix-omobude-testifies.html

Its tough showcasing what you do and its only fair when people just commend your efforts whether copied or original…we all get our inspiration from somewhere na kilode! lets give the designer some breathers and encourage him to be better. God bless your hustle and great concept by the way (copied or not)

Am not even Nigerian and this is pure talent. Such a shame people condem this. Nigerians should learn to support its own. I don’t think any other Nigerian brand has caught my fancy like this. Def placing orders. Kudos

I love this collection and I am kind of confused with all the comments I just read. The simple truth is this guy might have never seen the clothes you guys are saying he copied. And I know for a fact that same idea comes to thousands of people at the same time. Whether you now decide to act fast or chill on the idea is another story. Cut the guy some slack… This is very creative. And there is something called CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM !!!!

A mish mash of poorly executed designs and the stylist should be shot! Mixing these pieces with cheap tacky jewelry is gawd awful *cringes*
