N64 Million Winner of MTN’s “Win An Aeroplane” Promo 2 Years Later! Suitors, Studies & How She Spent the Money

Ebube Gladys Essien-Garricks
was a 27 year old student when her life changed forever!

She chose N64 million instead of a plane from MTN, and she hasn’t looked back since – click here for the story.

YNaija caught up with the Malaysia based winner to talk about her suitors, studies & of course how she spent the money.

Ebube at her 29th Birthday Celebration on October 3

How the ‘win’ was celebrated
It was really an amazing thing that happened to me, I’m yet to get over the excitement. Not any one can be lucky like I was and I am still very grateful to God. My family threw me a party to celebrate but it was an in-house thing, it wasn’t an elaborate one, just private family celebration. We didn’t invite outsiders to avoid being kidnapped, lol.

You have been off the radar, why is that?
Yes and that’s because I am presently studying business information system in Malaysia. I left Nigeria in May, 2013.

But you were already studying at the Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology
Yes but I had to quit, I couldn’t go back to complete my studies because the whole winning incident made me popular in school, everyone would point at me, try to be friends with me and all….. I was known all over which the school and I had to leave for security reasons, I didn’t feel safe.

After paying your tithe offering, what was the first thing you bought from the money?
I let it breathe fresh air in the bank, then I bought lots of land…I didn’t acquire houses or cars because that is not the main thing for now, moreover I’m not available to look over them so I settled for lands, it’s a safer investment. I would acquire the other properties with time.

And your parents?
I have settled my parents and I am taking good care of them but let me point out that we were doing okay even before I won the money; we had our own family house before then too.

You didn’t go shopping at all…get new stuffs, change your wardrobe?
Yes I did. I changed my wardrobe, bought new stuffs for me and my family but I’m not a shopping freak.

What has changed about you since the win?
Nothing much. I am still the humble me, the person I used to be. The money doesn’t make me misbehave because God detests the proud.

Let’s talk about your love life. After you won the money, you said you had lots of toasters…
Hahahaha it gave me headache. They all came because of the money you know…many of them got my contact from my sisters, they would call me to make empty promises, one of them even went as far as saying he’ll build a big house for my mum and also take me abroad, imagine!

ebube-garricks3They went as far as calling to ask my parents if I am married…but it’s all good now, since I relocated here, everything has died down.
I am now in a relationship and I will get married in due season.

Would you return to Nigeria after your studies or settle fully in Malaysia?
I will only visit. I am working on being an international business woman, but don’t ask me what I intend supplying, lol.

So have you exhausted all the N64 million?
Haba, no not really, I still have some left.

Any advise to the Nigerian youths
Youths should be patient and wait for their time, God’s time is the best, thank you!

“after paying your tithe offering” that pastor don hammer, free 10%. why wont oyedepo and tb joshua be on the world’s richest pastor list. its because of ignorant people like this who think they are giving god money but in reality are enriching the pastor’s bank account. assuming she didnt give tithe but gave the money to an orphanage or different orphanages I will have commended her and the orphans would have seen food to eat for some weeks. pls nigerians stop giving ur pastors money in form of tithe. it is foolish. u are not giving god, you are making the pastor richer.

Mind your own damn business Bruno. When was the last time you took 50naira to an orphanage? Everyone so quick to condemn the other person. Must everyone act like you and do the things you’d do? See you talmbout ‘I would have commended her’. What exactly is your commendation worth? Who are you? Man sit your ass down! See you even spelt God with a small letter and you think you’re worthy to advise folks on tithe giving or not? Sit down! All the way down!

you are very dumb and u are missing my point. stop giving psstors money in the name of tithe. its ridiculous. instead give an orphanage or a school for the disabled etc. I never said I was holier than any one but I dont give tithe to anybody. I wouod rather give the beggars by the road or keep my money in my purse. pastors are buying exotic cars with ur money. ignorant fool

Yeeesss Bruno! Keep talking that real talk….let it keep pepperig them! They won’t hear u tho, but one day tho, they’ll look back and see how foolish their fundraisings for their pastors’ exorbitantly lavish lifestyle is! Not even like they benefit shishi from it to be running their mouths defending their selfish pastors. Myopic, brainwashed lots

I agree that the babe shoulda given the money to those who truly needs it. The pastors will only keep enriching themselves and their families, while the desolate people keep dying. Who needs the money more? A pastor with jets and mansions or orphans on the streets dying of hunger?? Commonsense eludes many in Nigeria! Oriegwu!

Ok? It’s a command from God, if the pastor steals it, it’s btw them and God. The tithe already belongs to God. She still has plenty left over to share with the poor.

This bruno is a headcase o! Yes the pastors receive whatever tithes people pay in church but what they do with it, wouldnt concern me, God will judge that!…You give it cause of the promises that God himself has laid out as a result of doing it! The key thing here is ‘Obedience’. Who is to say you cannot tithe and give to the needy…? Why call people Foolish for what they believe in? Highly Charismatic people do not sound like you do! #thisisallsaidinlovehunny

Mr/Mrs Bruno why don’t you keep your opinion to yourself. It’s her money and she can decide where her 10% goes to. You are such a ridiculous person…….. Attention seeker. Go find something better to do rather than criticising on a good Sunday Morning…..

@Bruno, The money is not going to the pastor,s account. The money is used to maintain the church… They pay electricity bills, fuel their generators, buy microphone and speakers and instrument used in church. Some churches use the money to pay salaries of their workers…. At least baptist churches do that. And for Pentecostal churches they use the money for television shows and all. The money does not go into the pastors account at all…… Please be careful of what you say about pastors. And to Ebube…. Congrats…. Please invest more Ooo!

      October 26, 2014 at 3:10 pm

Forget what the pastor tells u they use the money for and SEE what they actually use it for! After paying rent/utilities for church buildings, there should still be lots and lots of money left over….and it should be used to help the less fortunate, and better their lives…..rather pastors are taking from those less fortunates to buy private jets and mansions, and u r here talking nonsense. If u like don’t open ur eyes. The ones that own universities charge so much that even their members who contributed to the building of the unis can’t afford it…..rather the “unbelievers” they condemn are the ones attending it. Make una dey use small sense

so what is pastor oyedepo using 150 million DOLLARS for. how did he get it. oya start saying its god that blessed him blah blah blah. biko save it. his memebers trek to church wearing bathroom slippers. nigerian pastors drive exotic cars have private jets etc.pls save it. im not jealous of any pastor cause the money is ill gotten. they use the bible and parts of the bible to trick ignorant people into dashing them money. meryl streep has 3 oscars 8 golden globes and has been acting in critical and commercially successful movies for the last 40 years but she still doesnt have this much money nigerian pastors have. stop dashing pastors mobey in form of tithe offering. instead give it to the orphanages or beggars.

I hate to say this but Bruno has a valid point there though. I was recently compensated with some money too and in as much I know it is my obligation as a christian to pay my tithes, I feel more inclined to use the money to better someone’s life or donate at a charity. I think I’ll feel more at peace in my heart that way and I hope God still sees it as a way of paying my tithes.

    • niki

      October 27, 2014 at 12:14 pm

Yep, you can actually do that. Go and read about tithes again it doesn’t neccesarily has to be money. God sees your heart. Xx

64million and she is still using synthetic wigs..bhet Mtn whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

      October 26, 2014 at 12:50 pm

Because she is a wise woman who understands that it’s best to spend that money one things that will yield fruit and not on something ephemeral like suddenly upgrading from synthetic weaves to human hair. That’s how the garbage man who won £10,000,000 in the lottery went back to practically being a garbage man again.

Judging from the interview it shows MTN actually arranged the winner of the promo….I am sure they paid her some money but not the promo amount….She is still close to poverty and nothing much changed in her life except studying in Malaysia….For 64M,a lot can be done….

@Bruno I really can’t blame u when u make such idiotic comments. If u knew better u won’t utter such; u lack enlightenment. Usually I come here to read the comments, but mehn, some ppl shaa!… You know, u don’t actually have to win a jackpot to give to charity. Why can’t u donate d little you’ve got. Or better still volunteer your time and energy. Gosh!

64million and she chose Malaysia to school….
MTN should have tried harder and sent her to a better school

BTW, i don’t believe for one second that that chic won that money….lai lai. Her ass is probably still in naija somewhere or maybe even in malaysia. I mean, of all countries to go to after winning all that money, na malaysia?? And the background of that pic nko??nI think mtn settled her with probably 500k-1million and told her to play the part.

The babe is wise and knows how to invest her money that’s why. Unlike a lot of people that would spend it on cars and bottles in the club and would go back to doing bambi allah after 2 years

  21. debbie

    October 27, 2014 at 8:52 am

yes, yes and yes, she truly won the money. the promo was real. and may I remind you guys who think human / goat hair and Prada is an evidence of wealth or affluence, you are delusional. not everyone is vain. there are so many wealthy deeper life and MFM members…do they perm or fix goat hair? no ! it is only empty barrels and “hustlers’ who make soo much noise when they manage to make small money.
the lady is accountable for her money. it is not MTN’s duty to tell her how to spend it or which school she ought to attend.

Whether the pastor spends your tithe on jets and cars is between him and God. Tithe is a demand made upon us by God. Come to think of it, how many pastors do we have in Nigeria and how many of them have private jets? Its not a trend and its only churches that can afford it that own jets. People should stop saying pastors are buying jets, how many ?

  25. Ray

    February 6, 2015 at 9:15 pm

No new testament pastor has authority to collect any kind of tithes from the children of God. A pastor is not a priest like the OT priest.
Tithes, first-fruits, sin offerings etc are not part of the gospel of christ. Tithing does not guarantee prosperity except for those collecting it.
If u think malachi was talking to christians try it and see whether u will get the results enumerated.
