BN Beauty: Baking? Sandbagging? What’s the difference between these Beauty Trends?

The dictionary definition of the word ‘Sandbagging‘ is a bag filled with sand, typically used for defensive purposes or as ballast in a boat so in a way it makes sense because as a beauty trend, sandbagging is about controlling grease and moisture on your face to keep your creamy makeup in place.

A lot of people believe this trend was made popular by Kim Kardashian and her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic but this trend has been used by drag queens years ago in the past.

This beauty trend is similar to ‘Baking‘ which is a highlighting technique. Sandbagging not only gives you a highlighted look (if you use a lighter shade of loose power) but it also helps fill in your creases to prevent lines and cracks in your makeup, either on your eyelids with your eyeshadow application or under your eyes with concealer.

In this video, British makeup artist Wayne Gross shows us how to do this beauty technique using loose power and a makeup sponge.

Some might say trends are the same with just different names. Others think they’re similar depending on the shade of loose powder you use. If you use a loose powder closer to your skin tone then it’s sandbagging as opposed to baking and using a lighter shade of loose powder.
