Stunning! Mayowa Nicholas stars in Lisa Folawiyo Studio’s Spring 2017 Collection Lookbook
Each piece takes you on a romantic journey.
A few days ago, Nigerian designer Lisa Folawiyo unveiled her Spring/Summer 2017 collection to an exclusive crowd at New York Fashion Week.
The event was hosted by Tamu McPherson.
Today, to relaunch her eponymous label’s website, she has released the lookbook for the collection starring Elite Model Look Nigeria winner Mayowa Nicholas.

Yes Lisa!!!! This is amazing. Love every piece. Keep flying the Naija flag high for fashion. Not sure if you and Maki Oh are on similar creative waves but see some inspirations from her previous collections in this.

OMG!!! Lisa Folawiyo is simply an amazing designer!! Not like all these so called tailors who claim they are designers replicating nonsense. Every designer has their aesthetics and own personal style which is fine but a lot do not have cohesive collections not to talk of the bad finishing and replication. This is how a collection should look like!! Lisa Folawiyo, Meena Official and Maki Oh are one of the few if not the only designers that I believe have the same high standards as the other international designers you see on the runway. Lisa is a force to be reckoned with!! Congrats!!

Several of the pieces look like Meena and Maki Oh’s to me
Is creativity in recession?

I don’t like it. Sorry. I don’t see what the oohs and aahs are about. I don’t like the designs and I don’t like the execution, the finishing. I’ve seen and I expect much, much better from Jewel By Lisa/Lisa Folawiyo. For the standard she’s supposed to be at especially having been featured in so many important magazines and publications both in their traditional and digital formats and all the spaces she’s been in at the global level, this is quite underwhelming. The finishing is too poor for this level. And, really, she had to do that incredibly lazy, unimaginative, mediocrity-evidencing, cheap thing so many ‘designers’ in Nigeria do i.e. using the same one pair of shoes with every single outfit and look?

How come these our Nigerian designers seemingly keep it secret as to where to actually purchase their stuff?
You go to their websites, you do not find prices or shopping links….who are their stockists and I don’t want to hear ALARA because I can only imagine the mark-up ALARA will fix on each item….that big ol’ building isn’t going to pay for itself…
Anyway, Lisa, Orange Nerd, Meena, all of you….please improve on your “reachability”. Some of us actually want to get your stuff without belonging to your cool crowd.

Unfortunately, they know how to reach their target market. Its NOT for everyone, its for a select IT crowd. Deal with it.

Well hello there, rep from the IT crowd.
You sound rather silly with your elitist apologist nonsense, especially considering that the commenter is clearly already aware that there’s an IT crowd and is asking for the clothes makers to try and improve their reach. So pray tell, what have you contributed to the world now with your response?

Finally….hats off to the dimensional brilliance of every piece. It is audacious and a far cry from rigid and safe simplicity.

Lisa be wearing all the high end italian, spanish, American, british designers but yet wants us to buy Nigerian and wear Nigerian, charity they say begins at home Lisa. Another point is she wears all these brand names and flaunts them yet her collection is mediocre and no way close to their standard, at aleast draw inspiration. Help the Nigerian economy and support other Nigerian designers, Gucci don’t care who you are, at least rent these high end Nigerian deaigners as you rent new season and samples from abroad 🙂
