How We Met

The Bride, Lola’s Story
Our love story happened exactly as I imagined. I met the love of my life, and I thank God every blessed day. We both attended the University of Texas at Arlington for our undergraduate degrees.

We had a couple of mutual friends who decided to plot behind our backs and be matchmakers. Let it be known that I was never a big fan of “set ups.”

Noble’s friend, Boobah, and my friend, Porsche, approached me one day and told me they had someone in mind for me. They thought we would be a perfect match because we were both Nigerians. I laughed it off and told them I wasn’t interested.

“Just because we were both Nigerians doesn’t mean we would be a perfect match,” I thought! Even though I told them I wasn’t interested, they gave Noble contact information anyway. When Noble reached out to me, I wasn’t as hesitant as I thougt I would be.

He was very warm and welcoming. On our first date, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly we connected. I can happily admit that I was wrong! Noble and I made an instant connection.

Shortly after dating, I knew that I wanted to be his one and only. I’m blessed to say my dreams are coming true. I can’t wait to become a Nwachukwu!

Noble’s Story
My friend Boobah has known for years that I have been looking for that special someone. A woman that was going to capture my heart and love forever. I prayed and fasted about her, but she never came.

Then Boobah came to me one day and said, “I have a friend who I met while you were gone at Fort Lee. I think she would be amazing for you. She is Nigerian, and the first thing you will notice is her big amazing eyes. She is a woman of God and very gorgeous.”

I had heard all of that before. I didn’t want to pursue her because it wasn’t the way I envisioned God to find my love. In other words, I don’t do blind dates. I almost missed my blessing not knowing that Boobah was sent to me to find my love and introduce her to me.

I usually don’t dwell on things, but for some reason, I couldn’t shake the thought of missing out on God’s calling. One night while sleeping I felt it more than ever that I was wasting time and missing something beautiful.

I got up and sent her a message and asked if we could meet. I didn’t know what to expect I just needed to know if she was the one or not.

When I went to see her, as soon as she walked across the corner to let me in, I could feel her beauty. I knew she was the one. After that fantastic night, I went to Boobah’s room and said to him “I have found a good thing.”

I prayed that night thanking the Lord for releasing me from my stubbornness and forgiving me for not answering his initial call. I knew I loved her from the jump and in less than a month I told her that I loved her. I have been saying it every day since then!

The Proposal

Planning has never been a good fit for me, but I knew that the day of my graduation would be the best day to propose without her knowing. First I had to get blessings from her family. I called her two brothers, Kola and Bola, one at a time.

They were both very excited. I also went to her cousins and told them the good news. And finally, I went to her parents, who I needed their blessings the most! I called her father and told him I was coming over to talk to him and his wife.

I also told him not to eat dinner because I wanted to cook for them. Lola’s dad, mom, and I talked for over four hours. At the end of the night, I told her father in his study, that I wanted to marry his daughter. His heart was filled with joy.

We went together to tell his wife, and she was ecstatic as well. Now that everyone knew I wanted to propose to Lola, I needed some help from friends and family.

I had to lean on my sister Margaret, my cousin Precious, Lola’s cousin Bisi and her friend Porsche for some guidance. I told them to tell all her friends to come to my graduation dinner. Then a very smart plan came to mind. How about I have Lola plan her own surprise proposal without her knowing.

So I had Lola, the greatest planner I know, gather her family and pick a restaurant that she loved. I rented out Beto’s after their closing hours and told them the plan. After we had started eating, I made the greatest toast of all time.

I started by thanking my hero, who is my mom, for all the sacrifices she had made. Then I went on to thank my sister’s, brother, and cousins. When I was done, I thanked Lola and tied it in with words from my mother. My mom always told me to find a woman and treat her the way that I treated her (my mom).

I looked at my mom and said “I found a woman who treats me even better than I treat you. You told me to find her and never let her go.”

After saying all of that cool stuff, I got on one knee and asked Lola to be my wife. And she said yes!

Our wedding day is rapidly approaching, and we are cherishing every moment! We are looking forward to finally becoming Mr. & Mrs. Nwachukwu! #Nola2k17
