#BoycottSnapchat: Snapchat CEO facing Backlash for allegedly labeling India a Poor Country
Evan Spiegel, founder and CEO of popular social media interaction app Snapchat is currently on the receiving end of a backlash following claims made in various media outlets that he referred to India and Spain as poor countries. The claims were purportedly unverified and were made by an ex-employee but it has gotten Indians riled up and most of them have begin uninstalling the app from their phones. Snapchat has debunked the claims and labeled the allegations ridiculous but it could be a little too late as their ratings have taken a hit following a barrage of social media posts and one-star ratings on Google and Apple app stores.
Dear @evanspiegel we are the biggest market in any country.?Will pray for your speedy recovery.Get well soon boy! @Snapchat #boycottsnapchat pic.twitter.com/l3FhPLwDir

I’m sure if they call Nigeria a poor/slum/fraudulent country, you all would have reacted the same way.

Abeg India is a poor country, so is Nigeria. I don’t understand why people have to get angry at facts as if social media ranting is going to make the country richer.

I don’t understand why humans have started this defending ridiculousness movement. Too busy proving what you are not than proving what you are.

India, sorry for breaking your chops, you are still considered a poor country by the UN and all relevant international organisations. If you weren’t, why are your citizens immigrating to developed countries in droves, including the United States and Britain.
It is only citizens of poor countries that immigrate to rich countries en masse for a better life. Until that changes, the world will continue to see you as a poor country.
So get over your bruised ego and get to work.

I’m sorry, is India saying it’s rich? So why are they still taking financial aid from EU, US, World Bank to mention a few? If UK hadn’t decided to stop giving you guys aid a couple of years ago, you’d still be taking! You can’t have it both ways. If you’re rich then I guess it’s time to stop taking aid & give back.
