May IkeoraIt’s not every day you see a beauty queen who has a Ph.D.D and working her way towards becoming a Professor. Today, we see such in the person of Dr. May Ikeora who is an ex-beauty queen, an academic, entrepreneur and now an author. She wrote this book following her doctorate degree and her first-hand experience working on human trafficking cases in the UK especially with victims from Nigeria. May also taught masters students, Modern Slavery at the University of Hull, UK.

On Monday, April 30th, 2018, Dr. May Ikeora Launched her book entitled “Bilateral Cooperation and Human Trafficking: Eradicating Modern Slavery between the United Kingdom and Nigeria”. The book presentation was hosted by the British Deputy High Commission through a reception to foster UK/Nigeria Cooperation to tackle Human Trafficking.

The book was supported by Nigerian Maritime Administration & Safety Agency (NIMASA), Keystone bank, Heritage Bank, First Bank, Fidelity Bank, Edilawani Associates, Eduplat and the Edo State Government to enable the dissemination of the book. The book was published by an academic Publisher called Palgrave Macmillan (a firm currently celebrating 170years of academic publishing). The event was well attended by key stakeholders including NAPTIP, DfiD, Lawyers, Judges, Unilever, Bank MDs, Governors, Commissioners, British National Crime Agency, NGOs and Rep from the Oba’s Palace.

The key message of the book is the need for partnership and international cooperation to stop human trafficking but mostly for the need to address those attitudes, cultures, social ills, laws and policies that foster this modern slavery. The book is available to purchase online on Amazon, Palgrave Macmillan website(free delivery all over the world), Springer (where you can buy the book even per chapter) or major academic book stores in major cities across the globe.
