Senate Investigating Elisha Abbo over Physical Assault on a Woman

The Nigerian Senate President Ahmad Lawan has said that the Upper Chamber is investigating “the allegation of assault preferred against Senator Elisha Abbo“.

Abbo, the lawmaker representing Adamawa North district was caught on camera hitting a woman repeatedly at an adult toy shop in Abuja.

Abbo has said he’ll release a “robust response” today, adding that his sister was “beaten to a pulp” at the shop before he was called in.

Lawan, in a statement on Twitter said:

Following calls I received from within and outside the country, the condemnation of Nigerians and the points raised by my fellow colleagues, I have constituted an adhoc committee to investigate the allegation of assault preferred against Senator Elisha Abbo.

The constitution of the committee is in line with my resolve to lead a National Assembly that is not only responsible but responsive to the people we represent. The committee is expected to turn in its report within two weeks.
