Arise Africa Fashion Week: Sika Designs

Ghanaian label Sika Designs presented a collection that engaged the audience in such an appealing manner! From the solid structured pieces which combined simple cuts with interesting details like flower embroidery and sequins on the necklines to the patterned short flirty dresses.

The collection covered grounds in the length, sleeves, and design department. From the asymmetric sleeves to the long sleeves and off shouldered ones, that were allowed to be the right complements to floor length garments, jumpsuits, bubble hems, and baby doll dresses.

      this collection was alright.
but my favorite picture was the long blue dress that sort of looked like african material and the second to last one made out of the same material.
      you rock bella! love ya!

I have seen Sika’s collection before and it usually is more edgy than what was shown here but these designs still rock

Love the fabric selection and finishing (the well place pleats, the cut of the neck line etc ) on this collection.

Spot the difference between Ghanian and Nigerian designs. Even I hate to admit it but the Ghanians are way better. We often try too hard when the West’s spotlight is on us. Trying to copy Look at us trying to copy their eccentricity and ting. Don’t get me wrong, most designers are eccentric but it seems most Nigerian designers have a picture in their head of what runway fashion should look like. Our eccentricity has been defined for us.It’s like they feel every design has to be out there before it will be taken seriously. A designer should let the mind create fresh ideas and just have fun with it. Stop trying so hard to break in. You define your art, no one else. If you are original, whether the world wants to or not, it will pay attention.

None of these designers are giving me the wow factor, all I see is regular clothes made with African fabric…
