The 4th season of Big Brother Africa premiered on African TV last night.
The new season is being hailed as Big Brother Revolution and its producers and publicists – they attempted to show us why last night.

Kickoff!
As we previously disclosed, the host of this season is Nigerian Radio/TV presenter IK Osakioduwa. IK introduced the new season and then went on to interview a bunch of celebrities – after chatting with them for a couple of minutes, he gave them a tour of the BBA Revolution house and revealed that they were now officially StarMates.

StarMates
One of the surprises was the introduction of the StarMates – 4 celebrities from around Africa who were to spend 24 hours in the Big Brother Africa House living alongside the housemates. They are: Nonhle Thema is one of the most recognisable faces across the continent, and best known for her role as a Channel O presenter (on the shows Oboma and O-Access) over several years ; A versatile actor and producer, Nollywood actor Tuvi James is passionate about what he does; 25 year old Steven Charles Kanumba is one of the most established young actors out of Tanzania ; Khanyi Mbau burst onto the South African entertainment scene when she took over the role of Doobsie in the popular South African soapie, Muvhango. Her life is often played out in the local tabloids, where she is referred to as the South African Paris Hilton.

The 4 celebs spend the day with the housemates – chatting and even cooking for them. Earlier this evening – they exited the BBA House.

Performances
During the kickoff show, there were performance from South African urban contemporary dancers and Somalian/Canadian musician K’Naan. You can view K’Naan’s performance below:

Past Winners
Big Brother cameras caught up with past winners and here is what they are up to:
BBA1 Winner – Cherise Makubale: Cherise got married in October 2008 and is now based in London UK with her spouse. She is still involved in charitable ventures in Zambia

BBA2 Winner – Richard Bezuidenhout: Despite his trifling ways while on BBA2, Richard is still married to his wife, Ricki – they have welcomed a new addition to their family – Joshua. He has also established his film company in Tanzania.

BBA3 Winner – Ricardo Venâncio (Ricco): Ricco has relocated to Brazil – he is enrolled in a theatre and TV presenting course. He’s also currently dating!

The Twins Twist
The final housemate, the 33 year old Namibian, Edward arrives on stage seemingly to end a very eventful launch show. At this point, 11 housemates have entered the house and there are no women in sight. Just when Biggie’s bag of surprises appears to have come to an end, a second Edward enters the stage leaving the crowd shocked.
“Am I seeing double, what’s going on?” IK asks.
It would seem Big Brother had one more surprise for the fans. The second Edward is in fact his twin brother, Erastus who will also be playing the game, but in rotation. One of the twins will be isolated at a secret place. He will have no communication with the outside world, and every now and then, they’ll swap places. They need to keep this up for four weeks. If, during that time one gets evicted, they both go.
Housemates are not supposed to notice the swop-over and if another Housemate works it out, he should be sworn to secrecy. The twins can co-opt up to 3 housemates, but if a 4th housemate finds out, it is game over, and the twins both play as one. They get nominated as one and evicted as one! If they pull the wool over the Housemates’ eyes for the full four weeks, then they get to play for the $200,000 as individual Housemates.

No Ladies
There are currently no females in the house. Apparently, they will enter the house by the weekend.

So that’s it folks – BBA Revolution 101. You can follow all the action on DSTV and via the Big Brother Africa website

how will those of us in jand watch this thing now ehn?

    • Kpakpando September 7, 2009 at 9:51 PM

Is there a ban on good looking guys this season?
I thought Nigeria was boycotting the show after the Ofunneka mini scandal.
I like the twins twist alot, I doubt they’ll be able to pull it off though.
Again, no eye candy? maka why?

    • fre September 7, 2009 at 10:58 PM

contrary 2 previous opinion, i think d guys r good-looking enough, especially jeremy[d kenyan] and he talks smoothly 2.

    • AM September 7, 2009 at 11:10 PM

After Ofunneka, BBA still went on with that Nigerian guy remember? So it will be the second season since the incident. No wonder they haven’t sent a female since… hehe!

    • ladi September 7, 2009 at 11:14 PM

relocate to 9ja nah! I’m sure there will be clips and BBA’s website always puts videos on.

    • Sugabelly September 8, 2009 at 4:56 AM

Why is the South African representative always white????

SA’s population is 80% South African, 10% other, and only 10% Boer. There are 8 South Africans for every Boer in South Africa so what are the mathematical odds of the South African being white???

    • Nairobian Perspective September 8, 2009 at 6:16 AM

that was quite revolutionary, love your post, the layout and in depth analysis!

    • uguysramazn September 8, 2009 at 8:10 AM

      @Bebe,sowie nah

    • EMMANUEL MKUWAMBA September 8, 2009 at 9:00 AM

This is interesting. Please BBA keep it up to give us surprises

    • kapeface September 8, 2009 at 10:56 AM

tanzanian actor why he is so quite or problem is language

    • inspired September 8, 2009 at 5:03 PM

@sugabelly, i swear you have real ISSUES. wETIN WHITEMAN DO YOU SEF? Good grief. Infact i apologise on their behalf.
I think one white person amongst 11 blacks is more than representative of the white population in Africa. Unless you are suggesting that they be completely ignored. You live in a country were pple of your colour are a minority and are constantly trying to get represented… abeg practise what you preach. Thanks.

    • mayowalulu September 8, 2009 at 7:32 PM

dont understand the no females thing ohh

    • Bebe September 8, 2009 at 8:42 PM

relocate ke? i’m studying o…but will b done in jan [halleluyah]…will check mnet website

    • Anni September 8, 2009 at 9:40 PM

plz is there a way i can watch this show online;coz i don’t reside in nigeria

    • Sugabelly September 8, 2009 at 10:26 PM

I don’t “live” here. I live in Nigeria. Also, why is it that in a country where Africans outnumber Boers 8 to 1, the Boers CONSTANTLY get recognition, representation, etc.

Or are you suggesting that Zulu and Xhosa people are not good enough to be on Big Brother???

    • Kpakpando September 9, 2009 at 12:41 AM

If you’re going to go on this “this is so racist” rant, at least get your facts correct. The representative on BBA from South Africa is not always white, actually this guy is the first white representative from South Africa.

    • Ola September 9, 2009 at 1:12 AM

The racist ting sef don tire me oh! I no fit shout again.

    • Obi-talker September 9, 2009 at 3:26 AM

I think its because the producers want a white person in the house so you can really only get that in SA. Kind of wat they would do in Britain’s BB by putting a black and Asian house mate. sort of ticking the ethnic box.

    • Ladi September 9, 2009 at 3:51 AM

Sugabelly, Afrikaners have been in South Africa for as long as blacks in America. They are a minority and put apartheid aside, they need representation and suffer almost the same issues blacks in America suffer. For creative purposes, BB should have a white person in the house to show a different perspective.

I have interacted with non-black Africans who see themselves as 100% Africans and are passionate about preserving their African identity moreso than many black Africans desperately trying to be Akata American by force. The way Nigerian kids who were only born in America see themselves as American same way white people whose forefathers came 400years ago to the cape and mixed with San bushmen (historically, before Bantus like Zulu and Xhosa even arrived SA from West Africa).Ok, I’m going off topic but in this case, there’s nothing wrong with a white south African. T’was about time we saw a white African anyway.

    • FirstIWantToDanceWithYouPere September 9, 2009 at 5:40 AM

i am not with Sugabelly on this…but Ladi , i totally disagree with “suffer almost the same issues blacks in America suffer”…White folks in SA have more priviledges than the blacks even tho they are the minority…I rem watching that show Egoli years back and thinking “where the heck are black south africans” thank God shows “Generations which potrayed the black one. Also Ladi, you cant compare the history of blacks in America and Afrikaners in SA.In all everyone should be equally represented

@ Kpaks Jeremy and Phil are hot now…

    • FirstIWantToDanceWithYouPere September 9, 2009 at 5:42 AM

Your comment was a bit too short. Please go back and try again.-lol

      yeah..i guess

    • FirstIWantToDanceWithYouPere September 9, 2009 at 5:43 AM

shebi people audition for the show themselves?am i right?abi the government chooses who goes ni?

    • Astrid September 9, 2009 at 10:05 AM

    • inspired September 10, 2009 at 12:03 PM

sugabelly, i see you have gone quiet. I did not expect any less from your kind. You’ve been called out and you hide away. Next time get your facts right. And what is all this ‘Boer’ and Africans talk. Just leave it simply at black and white, okay? We know you are permanently on google and wiki, your knowledge as usual is as unoriginal as the place you claim to live.
when you move back home, then i’ll believe you.

    • wienna September 12, 2009 at 12:31 PM

Hmmm…not feeling the naija rep this year at all. I think the SA, Ugandan & Kenyan guys are hot though.

    • oladapo omotosho September 12, 2009 at 8:23 PM

i think Edward is still the best housemate so far.he is so matured and posses the needed social skill to emerged the winner.Phil is sensitive and hannington sucks he acts fake.Kevin this is not about been cute it is more of been discreet….awake the sleeping man in you. Nigerians are counting on you.good luck.
