I think your ** would have been better suited on the word ‘pubic’ rather and ‘hair’. Just saying :-)

Meanwhile DENRELE.. can you NOT be yourself for one day! just one day! i dont know how this guy really looks like ..all these rainbow style of dressing and shoes is not flattering at all.. you are a guy.. cut that hair and donate to charity ahn ahn..

    • Naveah December 3, 2013 at 8:23 pm

Because he is NOT comfortable being himself which is why he hides behind costumes, big hair, big shoes, make up and all that drama. I am yet to see a picture where he’s just BEING instead of POSING with that tired wide mouth grin. NOBODY has that much to grin about all day every day in every picture. He is probably fun to hang out with but would probably tire one out in no time. He always seems to be “ON” like light bulb.

      • rita December 3, 2013 at 8:42 pm

        LOL SO TRUE

      • Plato December 4, 2013 at 10:48 am

Yeah @Naveah, I’m sure you feel validated that @rita has agreed with you. People that think like you disgust me. So do you know Denrenle personally to conclude that this isn’t the real him??? He’s doing better half of you that cannot go out without weaves and 100lbs of makeup!!! Why does he have to conform??? So that you can call him “normal”??? Shame on you. And FYI there are pix of Denrenle online with “normal” clothes and his hair pulled back. He looked sexy but this here is HIM!!!

      • Donald-Landon December 4, 2013 at 4:11 pm

Why does Denrele have to conform to what people expect him to wear?? He is actually very much being himself (yes wearing costumes, big hair and tall humongous shoes is part of who he is); ‘realer’ than a lot of fake conformist Nigerians floating these days. Oh I see you expect him to come out in a t shirt and jeans or a suit and tie – that would actually be him faking because that is not who he is. That is why I have exceptional mad respect for people like Charly boy for being an outlier, being who he wants to be, dressing how he wants to dress and not conforming to what the Nigerian society or the likes of you and Rita expect him to wear. Charly boy has survived doing just that for the past 3 decades. Denrele is doing what a lot of Nigerians don’t seem to do these days and that is “being himself” and ‘doing you’. For him what you see is what you get; there is no faking or pretense to be something that he is not.
@ Rita -The beauty of humanity is variety. You don’t have to like the way he keeps his hair or dresses. Neither should he have to change himself to match you and the ‘Nigerian society standard’. You have a right to ‘be yourself’ (whatever being yourself means to you) why shouldn’t that be the same for Denrele.

    • rita December 4, 2013 at 7:28 pm

Denrele is a “MAN” A grown MAN and should act like one. I AM very CERTAIN he came into this world without rainbow colors in his hair. now that is what the REAL denrele should look like. the colors, the shoes, and dressing shows he is NOT comfortable being himself that is why he has created this persona to deal with whatever issues he has on being himself. with that being said.. i like his bubbly and happy personality..it is good but he gotta be comfortable and confident in letting the world see the real him and not this randomness ALL THE TIME

      • Amanda December 4, 2013 at 8:22 pm

So what if he is a grown man. Who made the rules of how a
grown man needs to dress and act? YOU?? There is no published
standard rule or fact to back that up. There are no set rules of
how any grown man needs to act or dress. You say ‘I AM very CERTAIN
he came into this world without rainbow colors in his hair. now
that is what the REAL denrele should look like’ — We all came into
the world naked why don’t you go around in your birthday suit since
that is the natural way we all came into the world. He shouldn’t
have to comply with how you expect him to dress or act. The
extravagant dress style, big hair and big shoe is who he is and has
chosen to be. No one comes hollering at you as to how you need to
dress or express yourself so why can’t Denrele express himself in
whatever way he deems fit. He shouldn’t have to get validation from
other people or express himself (dress wise) differently to fit
into your bubble. Confidence is definitely not something I will say
Denrele lacks because when he walks into a place confidence is what
he exudes. He lights up wherever he goes and that is what people
need to do — Express yourself in your own special way and do
whatever dim fits you as long as you are not harming
        someone.

  • Afrik Lounge Show December 3, 2013 at 4:40 pm

    Interesting!!

  • Omo1 December 3, 2013 at 4:49 pm

Most of the half dressed ladies here are SA ladies..I know they got no regard whatsoever for their own femininity. I find it rather sooooo not sexy!

  • Vicky December 3, 2013 at 5:35 pm

Chidinma is soo pretty ,as for the near nude ladies lets leave them, but looking at some of the fashion I bet in two yrs time some ladies will turn up completely nude.most of the men were very decently dressed expect Derenle.

  • Kamal December 3, 2013 at 5:37 pm

Speechless! What to say! Style where art thou?

  • Vicky December 3, 2013 at 5:37 pm

Bonang’s dress would have being fabulous minus the Dracula cape.

  • eesha December 3, 2013 at 5:43 pm

Denrele’s bleaching is unto another level like seriously.

  • Felinda December 3, 2013 at 6:01 pm

I said it once i will say it again, Bonang is the most stylish African celebrity hands down. Love her. 2nd in line is Minnie Dhlamini. Those south african celebs dont play, they really bring it. I truly admire their red carpet style, more than ……………. :) – they know what to wear and where, unlike ………. :) – they dont miss the memo on the right attire to wear to the right event, uknowwhattamsaying? Watch and Learn. Bella feature Minnie Dhlamini sometime okay, I love her style

    • Athena December 4, 2013 at 12:17 pm

Absolutely agree with you Felinda…..they truly know how to dress for every occassion.

      • Idak December 4, 2013 at 4:12 pm

Bonang, Yes but Minnie still has some way to go. Both are just exceptions to the awful fashion sense I see in most South Africans.

  • Cool cat December 3, 2013 at 6:09 pm

Vimbai was best dressed hands down. SA is a lot more liberal than nigeria so there’s no need for all the noise.

na only women dey the award or the bella paparazzi was male and totally enchanted by all the females and scanty outfits they are wearing. Where is worthwhile content about categories, winners and nominees. If we want ikebe super edition, we know where to go but haba una for manage not share us biased one sided, male perspective lens of what happened. By the way this week , reports say 2 or 3 in every SA has aids, and approx. 6 million SA are living with aids with about 2m unable to afford the medicine. #buyers beware

  • Nonnie December 4, 2013 at 6:30 am

as much as everybody can comment about SA not being able to dress but they look better and the make up and hair is not too much like nigerian women. truth be told.

  • Athena December 4, 2013 at 12:03 pm

SA ladies….class, elegance, sophistication is what we do. Like I commented earlier, the ladies in half outfits, aint SA chicks……We do not use body bleach please

  • adelegirl December 4, 2013 at 12:05 pm

Whilst the ladies are a refreshing change from the overly made up, 30inch human-hair-ed up, overly made up (or bleached yellow-ed up) inverted nike eyebrow-ed up ladies we see on Nigerian red carpets, their outfits for the most part just scream tacky, no style, trashy, no elegance, no class, no taste, just plain NO! Bright spots were Vimbai and her companion in white and a handful others, who kept it simple, classy, elegant and stylish. I am not surprised coming from a SA red carpet anyway, they aren’t exactly known for their style and modesty in dressing or sexual behaviour. I still have love for my SA friends though. Those ones are classy. ;-)

    • Athena December 4, 2013 at 12:11 pm

Spot on Adele!!! Afterall in every country, there are trashy dressers!!

      • Idak December 4, 2013 at 11:51 pm

There obviously are trashy dressers in every country. However, the majority of the South African population happen to be trashy dressers. They just have no clue when it comes to fashion. We can’t allow stylish folks like Bonang and a few others distort the true picture.

  • Athena December 4, 2013 at 12:05 pm

And if you want to see nyash, come to SA….Beyonce and J.Lo take nothing!!

  • Athena December 4, 2013 at 12:07 pm

Seriously? South Africans don carry ist from back be that. Jeez! Only Chidinma i see!

  • PepperedPeaches December 5, 2013 at 2:09 pm

We are all African and as such we must unite, respect and embrace each other as opposed to talking down or judging each other. Diversity is a beautiful thing and it should be embraced. I find most comments on this blog quite disturbing and disappointing. I have a couple of issues I would like to address and yes this is not only coming from a proud South African sister but a concerned African woman too.
    1. So, what if South African women have hips and nyashes??? How does it bother most of you Nigerian sisters, is it because this is something that you envy because your male counterparts seem to appreciate, find sexy and irresistible hence they keep chasing after South African women? Are you perhaps threatened by these South African woman because you have what most consider tough manly bodies??? Which leads me to my next point:

    2. Calling us Ashawos/lose/easy doesn’t make you any less Ashawos. South African woman are raised to be proud, strong and confident with an opinion without being loud and overbearing to make our point. We are not raised to look for “Ozzbands ” the moment we step into womanhood instead we are raised to become educated, independent in our own right and appreciate our womanhood like the Goddesses we are. Now if this makes us lose/easy/ashawos because we are seen to be “too liberated” and know what we want and yes this does include the bedroom and yet still embrace our feminity then I would say we still have a long way to go in the struggle for equality between men and women and as Africans as a whole.

    3. Now the lack of style debate is one that is tired and relative. It depends on how one defines style. We might not be into labels and brands that our Nigerian sisters seem to be taken by but we sure do know how to dress up and carry ourselves with elegance and command respect when we walk into a room and we do not need fake labels/brands from the Chinese market to do so. When we do go for brands we go for the real thing and not “fong kongs”. I have had the privilege to travel around the continent, Nigeria included and I follow a lot of Nigerian blogs and I must say I have come across a lot of fashion disasters on your red carpets including ashy feet and bleached skin which is such a turn off considering how beautiful your dark skin is. I have even walked these red carpets so I know this from experience.

For the longest time I have read nasty comments on Nigerian blogs mostly about not only South African women but Kenyan women too but I have never seen a response from the parties attacked yet some of our Nigerian sisters keep attacking us. We are all Goddesses from one continent, can we not appreciate our differences instead of mocking them while exposing our ignorance and lack of tolerance.
I happened to have attended the awards and thought it was a beautiful event with beautiful souls. Let’s not take away from this special event, the fact that it is the 1st of its kind to bring the continent together as one. Welldone to all the nominees and those that took the awards home. A big S/O to Channel O for such an auspicious occasion, let’s keep uniting Africa through music, one love!
