BN Collection To Closet – Alter Ego

A little over a year ago, we did an article entitled From Collection to Closet: The African Fashion Scene in Motion‘. The article highlighted the increasing relevance of the African fashion industry and illustrated with photos of fashionistas from around the continent rocking pieces from African designers’ collections.

In our drive to promote the African fashion industry and encourage people to patronize African designers, we will be transitioning ‘Collection to Closet’ into a regular feature.
We already have quite a few stocked up.

Let’s go!

When trying to pick our first feature, we spotted several obvious choices. Well known fashionistas rocking designer dresses on the red carpet. However, we decided to start with something more practical, to illustrate that you do not need a special occasion to “Shop African”.

We spotted this pretty lady at the HauTe Attack shopping event which took place some months ago. She was rocking an ankara and lace jacket from Nigerian Designer – Alter Ego.
She paired the jacket with khaki shorts, dark grey ballet flats and a bold maroon shoulder bag. Laid back chic.

So how did this look translate from ‘Collection to Closet’?

I think this is a great addition to an already informative site. Africa and its inspirations will always be in fashion. African attire and especially the contemporary trends that are coming from emerging designers such as Chichia, lalesso, Deenola as well as jewel by Lisa, Duro Olowu (The list is endless as we all know), who have been inspired by Africa but also many different elements will only cement this trend even further and the talent of each designer(s) in their own right.
Our Great grandparents were wearing traditional fabrics way before, since the beginning of time so I firmly believe that African inspired designers are not going anywhere thet are her to stay and are going from strenght to strength.
