Just a few months after MTV Base found its new SA VJ, Nomuzi Mabena, the channel turns its gaze to Nigeria. Telling the story of the search for a new star, fun new reality show “MTV Base VJ Search – Nigeria” kicks off on 15 January 2013; the 3-part TV series focuses on the hunt for a brand new VJ (Video Jockey or TV presenter) for music channel MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) – one of the most coveted jobs in the entertainment business!
MTV Base VJ Search – Nigeria premieres on MTV Base at 19:30 CAT on Tuesday 15 January 2013.
Seven years after Cynthia “C-Von” Okpala became MTV Base’s first Nigerian VJ, the appointment of MTV Base’s newest VJ wannabe is just 3 weeks away.
Episode one of the MTV Base VJ Search – Nigeria follows a host of wannabes as they make their bid for fame and fortune. Being a VJ is much harder than it looks – as the MTV Base cameras will demonstrate – and for every talented individual there are many who don’t make the grade! Highlights of the programme will include footage of the hot (and not-so-hot!) candidates as they go through the audition process. And, for a bit of fun, MTV Base put Nigerian stars Banky W, Basketmouth, Funke Akindele and Brymo through their audition paces too…
The concept of a “VJ” or “video jockey” was created by MTV and revealed to the world on 1 August 1981 when MTV first switched on in the USA. Only the most talented individuals all over the world have since borne the prestigious title of “MTV VJ”. Famous VJs through the years include Carson Daly, Daisy Fuentes, Trevor Nelson, Vanessa Mannillo, Jenny McCarthy and Sway – not to mention South Africa’s Sizwe Dhlomo and Nigeria’s Cynthia Okpala.
