The Headies 2013 Awards - First Photos on BellaNaija - December 2013 - BellaNaija - 033

Music’s biggest night in Nigeria went down a few minutes ago in the metropolitan city of Lagos…and of course, it was super fun.

On boxing day, Thursday 26th December 2013, the black carpet was rolled out at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos for the biggest names in the Nigerian entertainment industry for The Headies 2013.

Hosted by Mavin Records artiste Tiwa Savage and Dr Sid, awards were presented to a selected few who simply ruled the music charts and had us swaying in all directions to their songs.

Olamide was the king of the night; picking up 3 awards for himself plus an award for collaborating with Phyno on Ghost Mode. Afro pop star Sean Tizzle won the Next Rated award which came with a Hyundai Tucson SUV.

Omo Baba Olowo Davido bagged the Hip Hop World Revelation of the year award and Best R&B/Pop Album.

Rocking the stage were Iyanya, Waje, Olamide, Phyno, Praiz, Seyi Shay, Niyola, Zaina and Yemi Alade.

Waje looks gorgeous but it looks like she fixed those lashes at one of those kiosks by the road. Am I not seeing well? Favour didn’t get an award? He deserves one more than almost anyone else o! Adanma should even be song of the year, it should even win the award for the best video! Biko, na dem sabi….

  13. FrenchWonder

    December 27, 2013 at 8:24 am

I’m happy for all the winners. Well deserved. Except I thought Olamide’s VOTS or Boogey’s Sanctum should’ve won Lyricist on the Roll and I was rooting for Burna Boy to win the Next Rated Plaque… Sean needs the car more though. 🙂 I was especially super exicted for BlackMagic and Nikki Laoye winning their categories. The award’s ceremony could’ve been organised better if they didn’t rush the way they did. 2011 still remains my best by them. Compared to other Music Awards shows in Nigeria, The Headies remains No. 1! And it was a BIG plus that they showed it LIVE on HipTv…

  14. mrs chidukane

    December 27, 2013 at 8:30 am

What happened to Flavour? No nomination at all.Who has heard the Jaywon song that won?And how did Sean Tizzle win over Phyno and Burna Boy?Hmmm,oh Chim oh.i watched it sha, they would have used the effort they put into hyping the show to actually organze it.The stage was too small, tiwa n Dr sid were so dry, can’t they afford to pay a producer for a theme song?I was so appalled with the Coming to America theme. And the lighting was too poor.I could go on and on.Nigeria is still very far when it comes to award shows, sadly they don’t seem to realize it and so do not improve.

  15. mrs chidukane

    December 27, 2013 at 8:33 am

Oh I forgot, what is with that guy sitting in front that was wearing a surgical mask? Was he trying to make it fetch? Lol

    • Ijeoma

      December 27, 2013 at 10:56 am

That Guy is OJB who just came back from Kidney surgery/transplant in India; now can you please shut up and go look for something to eat?

    • mrs chidukane

      December 27, 2013 at 4:36 pm

Na wa oh,how does my question warrant such an abusive answer? Did I tell you I was hungry? I said who was that man,if you had half a brain you would notice that I don’t know him. Simple answer :He’s ojb,:he’s wearing it cos of his health. Please its not my fault your Malaysian guy disappointed you this christmas. Don’t let out your frustrations on me biko

    • Eve82

      December 27, 2013 at 8:43 pm

So bc he is OJB, she can not ask a question again? Nigerians and their hypocritical ways.

    December 27, 2013 at 9:57 am

Best reggae/dancehall single = I wish ? I love Waje and I remember raping the repeat button when I first heard the ‘I wish’ song but I personally think Rihanna by Orezi is by far ahead of I wish when it comes to this ‘best reggae/dancehall single’ thing. But hey, I’m glad she still bagged an award because of that amazing song. Whatever happened to Olamide or Boogey winning lyricist of the year ? 2face really beat Davido- Gobe ? What is the explanation behind Sean Tizzle winning next rated when there is Burna boy there and even Phyno ? Artiste of the year-Iyanya ? Hmm Ok. I actually do believe, this people I have called out deserve one award or the other because they’ve worked hard, maybe not just for the category they won it. S/O to hipTv tho, u cannot get it all spot on, especially as the awards are based on people’s vote. And oh, I’m super happy and proud of Olamide, hardwork pays off..Weldone !

  27. k

    December 27, 2013 at 10:01 am

cant complain abt d winners list tho. all d winners happened to b strong contenders for their awards; except lyricist on d roll andd next rated.
im so sure sean tizzle PDP’d d votes on dat, coz on pure merit, burna owned that.
as for mode 9, as we all know he’s a friend of d family. i no c d lyricism wey dey dat Let It Go Let It Go LetiletiGo song. completely outdated and irrelevant song.
but great job tho. congrats to all d winners

PS. i tot twas onyeka onwenu dat was to get d Hall of Fame award?

Show and slept through most of it, it was so not well organised the technical problems on stage was just too painful to watch… Please, you need more sponsors get Guinness on your side. The show they carried out recently in Lagos was top notch!!! Also, burna boy was robbed he deserved to win in all his categorie, The boy is super talented!!!

  33. hauwa

    December 27, 2013 at 10:54 am

Congrats to the winners, but the fact that flavour didn’t win anything is beyond me. He’s damn good. And why did Mode9 and Tuface winy awardasagain? Just goes to show what sort of award this is. Crap. Meanwhile, what is Waje wearing again? And I thought she’s been working out silly? Sack your stylist asap. She’s making money off making you look bad.

  51. tunde

I simply adore nikki’s vocals on only you, no wonder that category wasn’t open to voting, cos it wasn’t a popularity contest, the question was who performed better on a song, and for only you, there was no contest, kudos to the headies, y’all got it right. Congrats to all the winners, Praiz too for repping!
