One of such people is Nigerian comedian Mc Abbey, who took to Facebook to express his displeasure at Buhari’s purported statement:

Mc Abbey

My point exactly! GMB is promising change. Oya tell us what you will change to take us to the promised land. There is no need to brag about how broke you are. Tell us how you intend take an already broke Nigeria to prosperity. What are you plans for the economy. How do you intend to tackle corruption and security issues? How do you intend to better the standard of living of the average nigerian? Will we still have freedom of speech or will you rule like you were still in the military? And as for GEJ, tell us why we should vote for you again. What plans do you have to bring us out of this mess? Please don’t tell me about your lack of shoes or about how your opposition is trying to sabotage your government. At this point I feel like we have no choice but to eat our vomit. But we need to know which vomit is worse than the other.

Hmm, that’s how this man will just “miss” later if Buhari wins.

    • Mc Abbey

      December 15, 2014 at 5:42 pm

If I miss if or when he wins then I’ll know military rule is back again….can’t u just be anti partisan and unsentimental for once and see that I speak not for GEJ nor GMB and all I ask for is a practical agenda and not sympathetic methods ? No shoes yesterday nd now no foreign account Today…think.

    • Iris

      December 16, 2014 at 3:02 am

I am purely anti-partisan and unsentimental. I do not care who you speak for. All I know is that as surely as it seems GEJ appears to be way out of his depth when it comes to leading Nigeria (try though he might), I can NOT trust a former dictator to be a democratic president in any country. It simply makes no sense. If that makes me “sentimental and partisan” (though I must confess I do not see how), then sentimental and partisan I am.

I have never commented on a blog before but this guy has provoked me to with this tweet, he is very shallow, Buhari declared his account balance and his total worth because he was in government before, as a president, minister of petroleum, chairman of the petroleum trust fund etc, he is trying to let us know that he was not corrupt and he didn’t steal our funds, is that not what we want? A transparent leader that is not greedy and self absorbed like the others we have had? I don’t know why some people just go out on social networks and tweet about what they don’t understand and end up misleading others; I suggest you take out time to read about this man, i am young so I asked my father about how things were when this man was in power, I read his profile on Wikipedia and I have googled him thoroughly and read every article out there about him, because I want to be sure I am making the right choice when I go out to vote. I suggest you do same. The killings are too much, the economy is plunging and 234 girls are still missing!

      December 15, 2014 at 6:41 am

Yes!!! If all he can do is fight corruption, then so be it!! Nigerian does not need a president to reinvent the wheel at the moment…we need to kick all the thieves out and then and only then will any youthful, innovative skills to diversify our economy work….
This in my opinion implies very high standards…
When I tell people that the average Nigerian is a corrupt thief (repetition intended), and they think I’m exaggerating…shior!!

I find it annoying when people say what can Buhari do at 74!! How old was Obasanjo?? Wasn’t he older? Wasn’t his government better than the current one? I am all for youth development and youth in power, but as it is now we have two choices, and we need to pick the better one without sentiments as to religion, age, culture etc. all we have to do is look at past experience and their current mandates!.

With all your research, I hope you came across the document where he stated that he believes and intends for this country to become a Sharia state. Y’all hating on GEJ, I hope you don’t eat your words when the time comes. This man Buhari has never come out boldly to say he condemns Boko Haram, he has always been mute and you’re jumping on his bandwagon. Be careful what you wish for. Need I say more? These politicians are such liars and thieves! He claimed he purchased the presidential nomination form for 5.5m, that’s a lie from pit of hell!! PDP sold theirs for 20m and I bet there’s no way APC’s will be less than 10m. I don’t want Buhari cos he’s not the change we are looking for in this country! @ 74, what does he want to prove again? Please we need a fire brand, proactive, intelligent, strong willed President not like the sissy we currently have. Unfortunately, we may end up with feeble GEJ or senile Buhari come 2015. Which way Nigeria, which way??

    • Mohammad

      December 15, 2014 at 9:48 pm

Did you have to devalue your argument by adding sissy? That is a homophobic and sexist insult that suggest that men acting like or percieved to act like women are not fit to perform in office. We need to rid ourselves of this idea that macho men are the holders of the presidency by birthright; and that all humans are equal regardless of their gender or sexual orientation.

The point Buhari was trying to make was that he isnt corrupt like most officials are and he is being transparent about what he owns. Which again, is rare in Nigerian politics. I dont think its sentimental..i think he barely stated a fact and i would not call that bragging. The one thing he has been going on about is to fight corruption which if you ask me, is a great place to start as it has eaten deep into the fabric of our society, Even if all buhair can do is tackle corruption, all major sectors of our economy will improve majorly…FACT!!! That for me is better than what JONA is doing ( or not doing) at the moment. I will take you seriously when you learn that ‘been’ cannot be used in place of ‘being’. So run along now and go make people laugh..thats your place..not political commentary. No offence but stay in your lane homie..deuces!!!

Buhari Purportedly said “I have AT LEAST 1mil naira in my account”. The key word being “at least” . This may mean anything from 1mil to 100bil or even more. If he said “at most” then I would say he is a liar. Then again I’m not interested in his finances/offshore investments or lack thereof. What I’m interested in is a clearly stated Agenda because for a man who is unrelenting in his bid to rule, sorry lead this Nation, he should be reciting it in his sleep.

Please understand Abbey…….he did not criticize Buhari for being honest, he only asked that he gives us his agenda.

GEJ told us a story of him not having shoes and we got suckered in. Buhari should not give us “story”, he should tell us what he plans to do and how he plans to do it!

  21. Laura

    December 15, 2014 at 9:20 am

I like what Abbey says, we dont care really, just tell us your agenda and what you intend to do, and how u want to go about it. We were fooled by the one who doesnt have shoes, only to be dissappointed by his poor performance

    December 15, 2014 at 9:22 am

Let’s understand Abbey. Its good you are honest, but what have you been doing, business wise, in the last years? are you just a professional politician? how have you been feeding your family? what business acumen are you bringing to the table? do you have an understanding o the economy? what r your experiences? Will u do two terms?
looking at it its not so different from what Jonathan used to connect last time. Salvaging Nigeria goes beyond the ability to throw a few people in jail under the banner of fighting corruption. I am yet to choose between the two so i definitely need more than this.

I totally agree with Mc abbey. We don’t care, besides where are the receipts to prove all he’s saying is true? So if I say I have N500k in my account you’ll believe me? Who says I even have a bank account? Can you prove it? These people should tell us how they’ll better us, not these same old rhetoric. In fact, I can’t believe that after 6 years as President, GEJ is just noticing that there is no Nigerian University is the top 100. Really? When under his administration polytechnics were on strike for over 1 year? These people are playing with our lives and we have no future under them. INEC should stipulate that if you lose primaries twice or elections twice or you pass a certain age please no more for you OR let it be pdp, apc and room for a people nominated candidate.

For those who want to know what he will do, you can check his acceptance speech after emerging the APC candidate – he talked about running an HONEST government, IMPARTIAL fighting of corruption, independent EFCC, economic boost through return to agriculture, etc – watch it and then you can decide whether his manifesto its ok or realistic enough for you personally. I watched that day and I heard what he said, all these other ones of ‘allegedly said’ I don’t know.

We Nigerians are so hard to please. Now someone comes out to tell us what we didn’t know about himself, then someone, who in my own opinion wanted to be noticed, came out to criticize him. When Jonathan didn’t declare his after so much pressure then, people came out to criticize him.

For those who think age has got a big deal to do with delivery,go and have a rethink. Or what sense does it make when someone who is not near the age of Buhari still finds it hard to know what to do at the face of the mess Nigeria is being plunged into.

Let us at least have a change in leadership,if for nothing. Let us stop allowing what we want to eat to keep.depriving us of a better future. If you still cannot do much after enjoy such amazing priviledges from God to rule this country for years, then it is time Jonathan took a bow. Let him go and sleep, abeg!

If all you want Buhari to do is fight corruption then you are on your own. First of all, start fighting corruption from your houses, communities then it’ll extend to the whole society thereby producing good candidates to rule and drive us to the promise land. By the way, Buhari is like the proverbial white cloth and water in d midst of red cloth and red oil, climbing mountains, hills and valleys…before long, he’ll also be stained or is it yam he has been using in his campaigns?
Nigerians, please wake up. Do the right thing in the secret of your rooms and expect the best from the society. Abi person wey dey work for govt wey dey go office 10 out of 30 working days, late to d office and even ghost workers and at month end collects salary, no be corruption be that?
Let’s use our tongue to count our teeth and remove the logs in our eyes before seeing specks in another man’s.
Mc Abbey, your write up is on point. Pls both sides should tell us and show us what they’ll do instead of all these propaganda here and there that plunged our country backwards which we are still fighting to leave behind.

For all the BN commenters that are quick to criticize GMB you’re missing the point that he was making #intergrity. You guys are all screaming that Buhari isn’t being honest with his assets declaration or that he has nothing to offer, let me remind you all something that for all the past military heads of state he may be the only one that no one has ever come out to accuse of looting the National coffers while in office.
Nigerians are such poor judges of characters as a whole society and the political class knows this and uses it to their advantage, we should spend a little more time reading up and learning our own history.
I’m by no means defending GMB because he has his own flaws, but if I remember correctly it was during GMB tenure that Nigeria built 2 oil refineries and refused to take any international loans from IMF because it required the devaluation of the Naira which wouldn’t be good for the country. I won’t go into a history lesson here, that’s up to you to go seek. And for the comedian, he’s entitled to his opinion but guess who history will remember GMB & not MC Abbey

I think a lot of people misunderstood what MC Abbey said. I actually stand with him on this bit – it’s not just enough to proclaim all shades of humility and low estates just because you want us to vote for you – what is your agenda for this country? Honestly, people saying all we need is someone to kick out corruption, let’s be realistic, that’s not all we need. Do we really want someone that will spend four years building 10 versions of EFCC just to hunt down and kick out all forms of corruption in this country? We need more than that – we need bright ideas, innovative ways of moving Nigeria from her current state to where she can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with great nations in terms of education, healthcare, infrastructure, economic empowerment etc. I think I share the comedian’s thoughts by demanding from Buhari – tell us SOMETHING you can actually achieve for the nation when you get into power.

Thank you!!! We get so moved by sentiments. I dont really care how much you have in your account. GMB is known for his records as a man of integrity and honesty – yes, his records speak for him. However, sir, what exactly is your plan? This man just gets up on stage and announces again and again that he has just one house etc. Abeg, there is more to being an aspirant than the number of houses you have.

By the way, former presidents of this country are being paid millions (cant remember the exact figure, but lots of money) and he refused to take all the money. Meaning, he takes a certain percentage every month. Maybe he dashes it to charity or family, i truly dont know. But sir, you definitely cant be as broke as you make it sound.

My main grouse with GMB is his desperation for this seat. He is 74 for Chrissakes!!! Shouldnt there be a time when you just chill and mentor and sponsor them to be leaders too? The fact that he thinks only he can do it is an unsettling thought. Desperation is not a trait of a good leader.

I keep thinking, which of these “evils” GEJ or GMB is better? Question for the gods. Frankly, I wish we had more options.

i completely get what this guy is saying. Nigerians are so moved by sentiments. we are in the period where the world is rapidly changing, and we are not allergic to change. the b.s of the 1 million doesnt hold water because ,when he steps into power, the 27 million naira ”loan” has to be paid somehow. for the person talking about transparency please how many Nigerian governors, presidents or those who have held power have been audited after term in office. GEJ came with he had no shoes, we voted . in my opinion people did because they thought change will come. i am under 30 but i think its the worse i have seen. If Buhari will reform Nigeria and give us the Nigeria we want , the Nigeria we dream for so be it. i dont care if he is 77 as long as he fixes the country. In his past reign history has it that he did well, let him tell us his plan, agenda for the economy, development, students etc.

I would have been disappointed if as a comedian you made sense…But as we have it, you are just a JOKE!!! Your chosen proffession has made you blind to reality.
Every sensible Nigerian would understand his point of view, he hasn’t said people don’t make honest living. In a country where your average politician is bank rolling billions.
Do your children some good and secure their future. Please take life more seriously, LIFE AINT NO JOKE. Make some sense and diappoint us next time.
    Thank you.

Silence is not a Weapon in this case. There is certainly time for everything and the time to speak is now. Everyone is entitled to their opinion as well as Mc Abbey. No one should use this as a platform to act like one party is being blacklisted by the post. The fact that @Iris thinks that Mc Abbey will ‘Miss’…if GMB is elected into power, should give us reason to imagine why a Government should be riddled with Fear and not ‘Democratic’ Freedom of Expression. People utter all sort of crap against GEJ without respect for leadership and No one shudders! So hushed tones will be the bane of the Government right? God will Protect You Mc Abbey!!!
Agreed, the present Government has not met up with the expectations of the people. Howbeit, the position of a genuine leader is to intervene when there are lapses that could be resolved even when no accolades will be accorded. Not criticisms when another leader is in leadership and negative comments that insinuates usurping authority when given a chance…my view.
The Question is…Does it mean that if another Government comes in, the Chibok girls will return? The Bombings, Kidnappings and the Killings will halt? There will be reforms in every sector? Does that not signal any root causes for the on going Crisis? Why were the Measures that will be supposedly taken in the proposed government, not taken to assist the present leadership? I understand there are limits to some functions in active roles…Pray Tell…
Change…A Breathe of Fresh Air… we say we wanted yet it has been tough and bloody. We may well be on our way… *sighs*
Would rather have a Man who listens and appoints people than one who we know nothing about apart from fronting his ambition and declaring some Assets. Some People in this opposing political party cannot vouch for the Aspirant 100 percent. Hope he is no mini-god…We want Transparency! No Shady Folks…
Please Our Leaders….Tell Us in Clear Terms what Impact you aim to accomplish. Do not let Nigerians fight each other about ‘what they thought you were compared to what is’. The Person we knew years ago may have well…Evolved…Who are You? What Do You want to Change? State in Clear Terms…
No need for any Extremist Government at all…It’s not a do or die affair. We know both parties have their weaknesses. Whether You believe it or not…ALL Authority is instituted by YAHWEH…THE MOST HIGH GOD!!! May the Chosen “Best” Man win!!!
    My View…My Own… Yours Truly…

And What if we refuse to vote at all? I mean for how long shall we be forced to accept what we do not want? Let’s say no to stupid choices no matter what. Bihari = NO. GEJ= No. And we will see what /who suffices.
