BN Beauty: #NaturalGlam! 5 of Our Favourites at the 2015 Oscars

Published

 on

The Naturalistas definitely looked glam at the 2015 Oscars!

From Lupita Nyong’o‘s teeny weeny ‘fro to Solange Knowles‘ wavy strands, I just had to let you in on 5 of our favourite naturals who rocked the red carpet yesterday. By the way, have you seen all the Red Carpet Glam? Click Here if you haven’t!

Enjoy!

1. Viola Davis – The Tapered ‘fro

She’s the woman who has been making headlines defending her “classic beauty” as a black leading lady in Hollywood.

The star of the hit series How To Get Away with Murder, Viola Davis, kept it traditional with her curls tapered and neat. I like how it drew all the attention to her face while still making a serious #TeamNatural statement.

2. Zendaya – Faux Locs

She may not be a naturalista, but the fact that Zendaya decided to rock the Academy Awards red carpet with faux locs landed her on this list. She has always been one to make bold statements on the red carpet and she definitely had heads turn with this look.

Her locs are bold, long and the highlights here and there added a little funk to her look.

3. Lupita Nyong’o – The Teeny Weeny ‘fro

We usually see Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o with added extensions to her natural hair, so I was glad to see her tone it down to something short & sweet.

Earlier on today BN Beauty had a feature on Lupita’s Oscar beauty look (click her if you missed it); and now I am happy to list her among one of the naturalistas spotted on the red carpet. With hair by Larry Sims, there is nothing I don’t love about her teeny weeny ‘fro.

It had textured curls raised to create a look that gave off a soft and cute finish.

4. Ava DuVernay – Top Knot Locs

Ava – the director of Selma, gave us locs to dream of. Her hair was styled in a topknot that looked intricate and simple at the same time.

I love how classic the look comes off; it gave way to her dazzling earrings and lovely bedazzled blue dress.

5. Solange Knowles – The Long Wavy Bob

Solange is without a doubt one of the many poster girls for natural hair. She loves to show it off and did so again at the 2015 Oscars. Naturslistas can easily recreate this look by blowing out your hair and getting the curls with flexi rods or twist outs – get creative with it!

The DJ, singer, fashionista and sister to Beyoncé paired her wavy bob with a stunning red lip and cat eyes. Simple & chic!

I love how more stars are rocking their natural hair to major events like the Oscars and the Vanity Fair Oscars After Party; like the long braids by Zoe Kravitz below. She let her strands sweep along her face with dark smokey eyes and a nude lip. So youthful!

Be sure to keep refreshing for more from the Vanity Fair After Party!

Nope, that’s Solange’s hair, even used to be longer than this. Her scalp is really fair though.

Viola Davis does not look amazing. I am completely unbiased, I don’t watch her show nor have I been brainwashed by the media. She’s looks okay but she looks the least amazing, sorry….and over-made-up

wow, that’s a harsh comment. anyway, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, not the onlooker.

I hope this will help nigerian women embrace and take care of their own natural hair. Americans think Africa will be an inspiration for accepting their skin color and hair. Unfortunately, it’s worse. Nigerian women are into bleaching and fake hair to the highest level.

I never discover the beauty of Viola Davis until she took the off the horrible wig. This women called Viola is amazing beauty. I hope our women will wake up from their disillusion mind of using wig or straight to determining beauty of African women. Every human being are created unique and beautiful but our women keep running away from them selves Lupita Nyongo, Viola Davis, Indian Arie and other great black women who rise up against western interpretation on beauty, appear natural. Our women need to emulate this great warrior and take off their wig, and embrace themself. .
