Hi BellaStylistas!

I’m always so excited when it’s fashion season – new collections, new brands, and fresh inspiration but so much more excited when it ends! Lagos Fashion Week 2019 was a fulfilling experience – I saw a wave of new designers on the runway, bubbly street style trends and with my personal style, I explored budding talent with a fresh aesthetic and I was happy to put the spotlight on them during the time.

ICYMI, last year, I stuck to simple pieces like dresses and two-piece sets and at the AW19 shows during Arise Fashion Week, my theme was menswear with a girly twist.

This year’s shows were phenomenal! Each day was something new and I hope you followed our by-the-minute BellaNaija Style coverage on Instagram and on the site.

Now, let’s dive right into it! Here is my Lagos Fashion Week 2019 style diary plus my runway picks.

The opening night for LFWNG was an intimate fashion business dinner held at the Wings Complex. One of my highligts of the evening (apart from the delicious three-course meal) was listening to Richelieu Dennis – Essence Ventures CEO and Sheamoisture Founder. He stressed the need for Africans to take pride in thier own products first before seeking international validation. Read my recap of The Gathering HERE.

For the night, I wore this intricately embellished jacket from my Elpis Megalio edit, paired with black strappy heels and a Princess Jasmine-inspired hairstyle done by Ceezys Styling – we created a full moodboard of updos based on my outfits for each day of fashion week.

DAY 2

The first day of shows was very energetic. The street style was incredible and the runway was lit up with a fiery SS20 show by Orange Culture, which was among my best of the night, closely following by Wuman, DZYN, Meena and the Tokyo James x TTYA London show.

I wore a white utility jumpsuit from ÉKÍKÉ, I love a one-piece that does everything – pockets to keep stuff and a perfect fit. I paired the look with a black bucket bag from Kharimabee – the ideal companion for all my tickets, powerbanks and extra snacks.

For my hair, Ceezy went for a pulled back extra long braid which gave my outfit the oomph it needed.

DAY 3

The day’s shows kicked off with Bridget Awosika – one of my all-time favourites. As usual, she presented timeless pieces with unique detailing and feminine essence. I had a lot of favoruites on Day 2, my wishlist is full and my bank account is terrified! Andrea Iyamah took us on a wild Carribean vacation with big hair, woven earrings and of course lust-worthy swimwear. I enjoyed ÀSSIÀN‘s take on what it means to be a stylish African man, Cynthia Abila also made a strong comeback after being a part of the Fashion Focus, Malian brand Meite Awa also showed pieces that were unapologetically African.

My entire look for day 2 was inspired by the movie 13 going on 30 – a pink top for 16-year-old designer Victor of Vicnate, pink eyes matching pink lips and shoes and of course a high ponytail styled to the side.

DAY 4

The final day is usally the busiest, with the best shows and the edgiest style. I wanted to keep things as comfy but chic as possible. So I opted for an unconventional suit set from womenswear brand Mimis Kreationz, styled the look with a micro bag from Saint Salem.

Mai Atafo blew me away with a reintroduction his brand, he revamped his brand name taking out the Mai and leaving just ATAFO but also a new, fresh and vibrant aesthetic followed – totally out of  his comfort zone but very well executed. Ejiro Amos Tafiri and Fruche showed just how versatile Nigerian fashion can be, manipulating aso oke fabrics and coral beads in the most impressive ways.

DAY 5

Off -Schedule Shows

I round up the fashion week activities with the Mazelle off-schedule shows in a super cute jumpsuit from Mrs SandraO, the outfit summed up my mood for the day and of course the vibrant shows. I added a pink snakeskin bag from Kharimabee.
