“Documenting Changes in Our Nation” – 4th Annual Nigerian Breweries and African Artists’ Foundation National Arts Competition Finale – 15th December 2011

The 4th Annual Nigerian Breweries Plc and African Artists’ Foundation National Arts Competition will take the place tomorrow – Thursday 15th December 2011 at the Civic Centre.

Winners will be announced at the event – The grand prize winner will cart away N2,000,000, the 2nd prize winner win N1,500,000 and  the 3rd prize winner will go home with N1,000,000.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Documenting Changes in Our Nation” and was chosen with an aim to focus on the process of art creation as opposed to just focusing on the end product.

After receiving over 270 entries from different artistic genres like photography, painting, sculpture, mixed media, installation and video art, the AAF selection committee had to shortlist the candidates down to 12 finalists.

The finalists of this year’s competition are;

• Folashade Ogunlade
• Jude Anogwih
• Chidinma Nnorom
• Samuel Palmtree Ifeanyichukwu
• Olayinka Sangotoye
• Taiye Idahor
• Temitayo Ogunbiyi
• Uche Uzorka & Chike Obeagu (Working as a team)

All the finalists were whisked off  to a resort in Abraka, Delta State for a 14 Day Workshop. This training gave them time to relax and focus on creating their various pieces. The serene environment was a sure plus on the organizers part as it also gave the finalists some inspiration to add or subtract from their works.
