Football Enthusiasts Express Delight at Super Eagles’ Victory Over Cameroon

The Super Eagles put the sad memories of their 0-2 loss to DR Congo on Oct. 8, to pound Cameroon 3-0 in Sunday’s international friendly game in Brussels.

With goals from Efe Ambrose, Moses Simon and Odion Ighalo, the much improved Eagles, stretched the Indomitable Lions to 3-0 pounding in a major friendly game in Belgiian capital.

Some of the enthusiasts who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday, said they were impressed at the team’s present form and hoped they would maintain the tempo in subsequent games.

Christian Chukwu, a former coach of the Eagles said the team played with unison after they had failed in a previous encounter to beat their opponents, DR Congo.

He alluded to the fact that rift between Coach Sunday Oliseh and his former captain, Vincent Enyeama, could have been responsible to the earlier loss.

“I must say that I am impressed with their game; the most important thing was that we opened scoring and sustained it to the end. The boys came out of their situation and played like they actually wanted success, which they did in a “timely” manner, with early goal from Efe Ambrose in the first half of the game.I am happy because the game will help to boost their morale ahead of their next match,” he said.

Friday Ekpo, a former Eagles’ midfielder also said the game showed the team listened to Coach Oliseh, their head coach and played to instructions.

“For me, it was a good game, they really impressed me with their good come back after the defeat last Thursday; the boys exceeded my expectations. Whatever the coach must have told them to do, they did, and that is how it should be on the field of play. I’ll give kudos to the technical team for a job well done and hope that they maintain and improve on this form,” Ekpo said.

A former prolific Green Eagles’ player, Adokiye Amiesimaka said the game was an improvement over their previous; it shows all is not lost.

“There are two countries in Africa we are always happy when we defeat — Ghana and Cameroon. Cameroon has been a long time foe of ours, `a thorn in our flesh’, and so beating them 3-0 after our loss to DR Congo is enough for us to be happy about. I hope that this will be a motivation for the players and also football fans across, who do not believe in Oliseh as the head coach of the team. We should give the coach all the support we can to help him to achieve.

Although, there is still a lot work to be done in the team. I urge the coach to keep working on more progress for the team,” he said.
