EKÓ AKÉTÈ – Lagos Living Inspired Jewelry Shoot by Gbenga Art-Smith

This jewelry collection is inspired by the familiar nuances in everyday Lagos living – from the lifestyle of the lady hawker to the “Owambe” party rocker. Lagos is a potpourri of multiple cultural influences coming together to form the lifestyle of its inhabitants.

We see cosmopolitan vibes joined in fashion matrimony with tribal sensibilities and giving birth to a very versatile style. The collection which features cocktail rings, bangles, necklaces, and brooches.

It was made possible by the synergy between the stylist/Jewelry designer, Gbenga Ayo-Dada of Artsmith Collections, Seyi Akinbola of Trans4maz Studios, Vivian Christopher of Da-vee’s Home Makeup Studio and the models, Amilia and Awele.

OSHUKA: It is a common sight to see hawkers or labourers’s heads doning a makeshift hat made from cement bags or a fabric deftly wrapped into a crown that serves as a cushion and they are popularly called “Oshuka ” This yellow turban is an allusion to the famous “OSHUKA.”Gbenga Art Smith Beads_Nigerian Weddings_Beauty_BellaNaija 2016_OSHUKA 3 Gbenga Art Smith Beads_Nigerian Weddings_Beauty_BellaNaija 2016_OSHUKA 2 Gbenga Art Smith Beads_Nigerian Weddings_Beauty_BellaNaija 2016_OSHUKA

AUNTY ONI-BROOCH: This look was inspired by itinerant traders in Lagos who display their gold accessories on an apron worn over their body.Gbenga Art Smith Beads_Nigerian Weddings_Beauty_BellaNaija 2016_AUNTY ONI-BROOCH 2 Gbenga Art Smith Beads_Nigerian Weddings_Beauty_BellaNaija 2016_AUNTY ONI-BROOCH

Nice, however your model doesn’t need to adorn her fingers so many rings just to model your collection. Remember less is more and KISS…….Keep it simple s……. just saying.

@Yinka, and I wonder what that is your headache! The young man is busy making money and you’re here throwing unneccessary shade.

Mind you, there are many businesses who stock products from different brands apart from theirs and come out with collections as a marketing strategy to announce their new arrivals.

@omole ..the industry is one that celebrates handmade/made in Nigeria accessories, if one starts rebranding China mass produced necklaces then the purpose is lost.. And mind you when a designer presents a collection… it is believed it was designed by them..if u are retailing you have no right to be calling it your collection and giving descriptions like it’s ur work. U can work into the market and buy these.making money or not…this is fraud…u don’t see good designers putting up already made clothes and calling it thier collection???to deceive people and take credit.
