An Abeokuta High Court has sentenced a man known as Bidemi to 15 years imprisonment for posing as the Awujale of Ijebuland, Sikiru Adetona and defrauding people of their money.

One Olufunmilola, a Nigerian woman resident in Republic of Ireland, filed a petition against Thompson for defrauding her of N20 million.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the court heard that Thompson, 23 proposed marriage to Popoola in 2014 and requested that she sent the said N20 million for the marital rites, which she did. It was also said that Thompson invited her for Awujale’s 80th birthday ceremony, but she failed to meet the monarch throughout the event.

After the petition, officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, nabbed Thompson in Ibadan and arraigned him for a nine count charge of Internet fraud, impersonation, conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence, forgery, among others.

Justice A.A Akinyemi who delivered the judgment described Thompson as a “serial and pathological liar” who was not remorseful throughout the trial.
