The president had made the comment at the ongoing Commonwealth Head of Governments Meeting (CHOGM) in the UK.

Nigerian youth, to assert their resilience and resourcefulness, are listing their qualifications and hustles with the hashtag.

From nurses who also work as fashion designers, to people who studied Geology but work as graphic designers, here are a few #LazyNigerianYouths:

I think this just shows who the lazy ones really are i.e the older generation. The president could not be bothered about making facts based statements , that is doing proper research before making such proclamations and he thinks we are the lazy ones? I think he has just proven beyond reasonable doubt that they are the lazy ones. They only now attempting to project their “stank” on the younger generation.

I love love this trend. That exactly was my thought when I read what Buhari said about youths being lazy.He refused to provide jobs for youths.People want experienced people but they refused provide jobs.Scholarship opportunities open up every now and then but they smuggle in their own people who are not even qualified and they end up being drug addicts. They waste the good spots in prestigious schools outside the country by filling them up with their kids that have no clue or vision.Sorrow fall on them all!. I laugh because we all know how their lifes turn out to be despite all the position, power and money.

You’re so correct. I went to a private college in London and 70% of the Nigerian students there were from the north. They were extremely, extremely dull save for one boy. One was my friend and she studied every single day and managed to make an F for the same course I got a B with minimum effort.
They all had some scholarship thing from Nigeria that gave them £1000 each a month which the rest of us southerners/westerners and easterners did not get and this was in 2008.
At the end of A’levels only 2 of them got admission into Universities and all the rest went back home. Some moved to different countries to start all over again.

I think Buhari was referring to the majority of the average northerners. He is right too, the majority his brothers and sisters are verrrrrrry lazy.

Hmmm…let’s not make this about ethnicity, and even if we must, you know your comment isn’t true. The average Hausa man would do any job with humility to make money. Isn’t that why they are derided for being ‘aboki shine my shoes’; ‘mai ruwa (water fetcher)’; ‘aboki gateman’ etc. Even while employed as gatemen, they don’t just depend on that alone. They will still open a small kiosk to sell daily essentias and double as messengers or washer men in the compounds they work. He referred to Nigerian Youths and Nigerian Youths of all ethnicities are speaking out with appropriate proof. Yet, you somehow manage to make this about the ENTIRE NORTH without provocation. Tell me when and how we (NIGERIA) shall have that peace that elludes us with comments like this.

  4. Quite true

What Buhari has said is quite true, he is referring to the youths from his divide of the country. It is a well known fact that the northerners abhor formal education and wait on the hand me downs from the elders/ well-to- do in their communities.

This piece is one of the saddest things I’ve read today, almost cried reading how people with degrees n masters have decided to work hard despite all odds, despite not finding jobs suited their qualifications…… May God bless all of our hustles and efforts. Forget the president for he has eyes but can’t see.

The lazy youth comment was not only disrespectful to us but damning to the already tarnished image of our country due to internet fraud. He pretty much co-signed every negative stereotype in front of the entire world! This man is a complete buffoon! Nigerian youths don’t ask for much! Mostly just stable power supply and security. People don’t ask for government assistance even. If the system just worked most people will find a way to make a honest living… heck! With the shtshow they currently have on, just look at the amount of talent and persistence in the thread up there. Ughhhhhhhh!!
The only thing we’ve been lazy about is in kicking these idiots out of office ?

You are very correct, Nigerian youths are so lazy in kicking these idiots out of office, we can’t even organize common protest.

I think Nigeria is the only country(I spent 14+ years living in Europe, so I know what I’m talking about) where idiots that call themselves leaders will continue looting national funds and the youth will fold their hands watching. No light, no road, no quality education, no good hospital, no security, no water, nothing and nobody is protesting, in fact this man is somehow correct, we are too lazy to say that enough is enough.

i don’t know why this brought tears to my eyes – maybe because I know hard it is to run a successful business in Nigeria. After all that someone whose salary my taxes pay, will then call me lazy. Insult upon injury.
Thank you sir – 2019 is almost here.

Dear hardly #lazyNigerianYouth, you have proven to those who barely knew you, that you are educated, industrious and very productive. Now prove to those who would hold you back and deprive you of your future, that you are highly effective. Vote, vote and vote. Get rid of the clueless, money grabbing and looting crooks.
Take back your country. I truly believe Nigeria will take back it’s rightful place with good leadership.

All I know is it will not be better for each and everyone of those that packaged this disaster in. And for those of you shouting get your PVC, Buhari is not Jonathan. Only death can take Buhari out of Aso- Rock. If you like, get more than PVC. A few of us clearly foresaw all these in 2014/15 but deceit. lies and propaganda reigned supreme over common sense. WE TOLD YOU SO!

Gbam, you just said my mind

I always find it funny when people shouts PVC. when everything has already been rigged and dusted.

Buhari is not Jonathan. ..only death can remove him like Abacha

Buhari relation and sister is from daura and is the head of INEc.

All military post is filled with northerners

Army, airforce, navy , police and custom even road safety agency

If buhari wins 2019 ..what are you going to do ?NOTHING

You won’t even see him during debate time.

Highest we will all come and rant on social media

Even people that were all making noise during Jonathan era are all already silent.

My happiness and peace of mind was that I was one of the few that saw this on time and was shouting but people were already brainwashed with sai and change.

Nigerian youths are just lazy mentally.
All they are good at is discussing about men this and that…religion, celebrities and tribalism.

The Army will come and kill defenceless ipob youths ( who are even courageous enough to say enough is enough but bcos it is igbos..other tribes will laugh and justify it with nonsense)

      Hypocrisy everywhere

If a so called youth declares intrest for presidency. ..the same youth will attack and question him and make jokes about it

But when it comes to sai buhari ..you wont see them.

Abeg, if you find way leave this country

Kick them out kick them out…they say. Yes we can and will kick them out. Kicking them out comes at a price, I sometimes think the Nigerian youth may not be ready to pay. Are we putting heads together to map out what we want? Are we forming and joining political parties that resonate the values we hold dearly? Are we ready to forsake ethnic driven arguments and focus on relevant issues? How many of us have taken time to read the Nigerian constitution or learn a thing or 2 about governance? Can we stand by our truth even if unprovoked by mr presidents thoughtless comment? How do we plan to tackle illiteracy which in my opinion is Nigeria’s biggest problem?Would we be bold emough to take action against those who have led us to the ruins we find ourselves in because they are our fathers, mothers, uncles and aunties?

A lot of these people who “had to” create and be entrepreneurs are actually entrepreneurs without realizing it. And there is a lot of…(entitlement/misleading) behind it. I know we pushed the idea that all you needed to succeed was go to school. But there’s something wrong with people kinda looking on the job that got away or the job that didn’t happen…as though you were entitled to the job.

We have multiple entrepreneurs in this list and yeah you “had to” find another avenue to succeed. The “had to” is bothersome. No job is reserved for you. The skills you acquired can definitely serve you.

If I were a venture capitalist, I would definitely invest in some of these folks.
