NEW YORK, NY – APRIL 29: Honoree Aliko Dangote attends the TIME 100 Gala, TIME’s 100 most influential people in the world, at Jazz at Lincoln Center on April 29, 2014 in New York City.

The presidency has released a statement to “further clarify the status of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, named under the sub-head ADVISORY MEMBERS in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council announced on Friday, December 28, 2018.”

Signed by President Muhammadu Buhari‘s Media & Publicity Adviser, Femi Adesina, the statement said since Dangote is not a card-carrying member of the ruling party, he cannot be appointed to the campaign council.

Adesina’s statement however, did not mention anything about Femi Otedola who was also appointed to the same committee as Dangote.

See statement below:

DANGOTE NOT MEMBER OF APC CAMPAIGN COUNCIL

It has become imperative to further clarify the status of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, named under the sub-head ADVISORY MEMBERS in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council announced on Friday, December 28, 2018.

Africa’s richest man, not being a card-carrying member of APC, cannot, and is not member of the PCC. He is also a member of the Peace Committee, and thus cannot be in a partisan campaign council.
