Enugu Police Arraign 7-year-old for Murder after He Accidentally Shot and Killed Neighbour
7-year-old Chibuike has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Enugu for alleged murder.
BN brought you Chibuike’s story about two weeks ago. According to the report, he accidentally shot and killed a 12-year-old boy, Oluebube Boniface with the gun he found when he and his brother, Ifeanyichukwu were cleaning a room in the house where their mum worked as a housekeeper.
Ifeanyichukwu told Chibuike to return the gun, and according to their mother, Nwakaego, “it was while he was returning the gun that he mistakenly pulled the trigger, releasing a bullet which struck Oluebube, who was in the next compound, on the chest. He died on the spot”.
Chibuike, his mother, and his siblings were arrested following the tragic incident. (Read it here). All of them were released two days later, apart from Chibuike, who the police said was in “protective custody”. Click here to read it.
He was later released after a lawyer, Olu Omotayo, from the Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network, raised the alarm over the little boy’s continued detention. Click here to see it.
Chibuike spent about 6 weeks in police custody.
The gun belonged to Chibuike’s mother’s boss, Edwin Oforma.
According to PUNCH, Chibuike was arraigned alongside Oforma before Magistrate Hillary Asogwa for alleged conspiracy and murder.
They were accused, in count one of “conspiring among themselves to commit murder”.
