In a recent interview with Genevieve Magazine, one of the leading females in the comedy industry Chigul opens up about her struggles with being a plus sized woman, learning to deal with acceptance, self-confidence and more.

Read excerpts from the Interview below

..

On struggling with getting roles as a plus sized woman: The fact is aesthetics sell and I know. I am trying to get there. I don’t want to be skinny, I just want to be fit and healthy.

On struggling with acceptance: It is a constant struggle. I know some things I lost because of my size. I have been refused opportunities because I am not younger and slimmer but you lose some and win some. I always assumed that if I didn’t get something it was never mine but then again I am in this market and I have to give the world what the world wants. On changing who she is: I don’t know about anyone else but I don’t want to be fat. I am fat now but I want to get to a place where I am healthy and fit and fabulous. It is better for my overall health. However, I love myself regardless.

On a personal story that has affected her self-confidence: There was an incident years ago when I was new to the industry. I took a picture with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu after getting my makeup and hair done and suffice to say I was pleased with myself till a gentleman put up a comment that read “It is finally nice to see Fiona from Shrek in person” I thought “Wawu! You look at me and think of Fiona?” It stung because it was such a cruel comment. Fact is most of these trolls look like actual trolls with crooked eyebrows because MTN gave them free 20 MB they feel they can troll. On her Big Dreams:  I am diversifying this brand and working with my manager to build a film fund to help someone else kick start her own project. I want to help emerging comedians; especially females. In the next 2 years, I want to be able to help someone else make her own dream come true. That’s the goal.
