Pakistani Politician Arrested for Money Laundering Released on Bail

Altaf Hussain, one of Pakistan’s most popular politicians who was arrested in London on suspicion of money laundering, has been released on bail.

Hussain,  exiled leader of Pakistan’s formidable MQM party, was reportedly interrogated for several hours last Friday, and is expected to report to police again in July, BBC reports.

News of his release has prompted widespread celebrations in Karachi, Pakistan’s biggest city and the MQM’s power base.

Hussain has lived in the UK on self-exile since the early 1990s, and has since become a British citizen.
